From the pictures shown, it could be authentic, but I would like you to request three more pictures, before I can say. Please ask the seller to post or send clear close up pictures of the zipper pull and the back of the zipper slide - and the front of the authenticity tag.

Hi, the above reply refers to a Roma on German eBay. I did ask for more pictures, but had the reply that no more could be provided, period. Naturally, I refrained from bidding. Now, I have just had an alert from eBay saying that the seller's [FONT=Arial, Verdana]account has been "found to have been accessed by an unauthorized third party, who may have used the account in an attempt to defraud other members" - scary! I was also alarmed by Baggiana's comment about the number of fakes surfacing in Germany. Since I am in Europe, I would save about 30% import tax buying from there as compared to the US, but now I feel quite hesitant about it.

I think I'll have to keep dreaming about a Roma for now. In the meantime, I stumbled across fashionphile's Veneta:

Seller: fashionphile

Wouldn't mind one of these either ... authentic, right? The condition of the lining is far from fantastic, I know, and I do realize that the bag must be quite old, too (note e.g. the Lampo zipper). What puzzles me is the size, though. Wouldn't this be medium rather than small? And would you say this is ebano?

Thanks!

It's an early Veneta, authentic, and the dimensions are about the same as a medium Veneta. Not sure why she calls it small. It looks similar to the Ebano color but it might be slightly different. She's taking the color from the tag so as to not mislead buyers. Yes, the lining leaves a lot to be desired.

Thank goodness you didn't deal with the suspicious German ebay account!

You can feel safe to buy on eBay in Europe as long as you have the bag authenticated, check on the feedback of the seller (hopefully know that seller as a recommended one, and pay in some manner like cc that will allow you to withhold/chargeback if anything goes wrong. The reason that you must find a trusted seller is that sometime the pictures look good, but what you are sent is not what was pictured.

The fashionphile bag is authentic - and all the markers are right for a bag of this vintage. I am glad that boxermom weighed in on this one, too.

Hear, hear! Thank you so much for your replies, boxermom and Baggiana! :flowers:

Re Baggianas advice, it hasn't proven all that easy to find generally trusted European eBay sellers, and for some strange reason, PayPal (standard in e.g. the UK) isn't very popular on German eBay, where bank transfer usually is the accepted mode of payment. Nevertheless, I must add that my lovely Pyramid (authenticated here, of course) was bought off there, from a great private seller! So even though the choice is more limited over here, I for one will definitely keep looking. But, hey, let's be careful out there ... ;)

Hi Ladies, Will you need additional photo's to authenticate the tote? I know the pics are blurry. I will never understand why sellers post pics that you can't see:nuts: Can you tell me the name and color or the bag, and possibly what it's worth?
Thank you:D

Here are a couple of pics she just sent....

The auction has ended with a BIN. For authentication I'd want to see the other sides of the authenticity tags (with the codes). The font for the large bag isn't shown and clearer pix of the fonts for the small bags are needed.

The large bag color is Ebano; I don't know that the bag has a specific name. This is older than my catalog collection goes so I can't look it up (mine go back 5 years).

Thank you boxermom. Did you see my second post with the additional photo's? She stated that she purchased the bag in 2008:nuts:
