Why does everybody not follow the lead of NAP, they have a tag physically attached to each item, and it has to be cut off, it cannot fall off. If removed, it CANNOT be returned. Its not rocket science for all of these department stores to start doing this is it!!
The money they will save in potentially allowing back fakes, and hence losing credibility it has surely got to be something they must start doing.

:drinks:

The fact that it had BLUEFLY wrapping inside leads me to believe that someone definately pulled a switch.
Shame on BG though for not having better QC in terms of inspecting their returns.
Even if they have people who know NOTHING about authenticating bags, a bag that comes in STICKY should OBVIOUSLY not be resold-real or fake :yucky:

From the way you described the bag, it sounds like a used (very used) return versus a fake. If it was tan, BG only sold that color in 2005, not 2006. Was the price $1380? If so, it was probably an old return and the previous owner threw away the care cards.

Fake would mean sketchy details like leather, color (not looking like the authentic bag) and hardware. I'm going to bet that bag was an old return, not a fake. Even so, they shouldn't have sold it in that condition.
I agree it sounds more like a return in a very poor condition. The person who returned it could have stuffed it with tissue paper from Bluefly while sending it back through the post. Bluefly sticks its sticker on the tissue that wraps all its items. The person could have bought other items from Bluefly; it does not necessarily mean the bag came from Bluefly. If I were looking for tissue paper for stuffing for a return, I would not care where the tissue paper came from and just reach for what is handy.

A fake return would probably be in a much better condition.

It's so scary! Sorry about your experience...glad it worked out ok now.
I was about to order my first Paddy on Aloharag..now I think I'm going to the boutique at my local NM. :)

xxoo

I agree with Roey and Roxane.... while it was unfortunate, your description sounds more like a used 2005 tan paddy that's been recirculating online for some time...not necessarily fake. I've ordered quite a few bags from NM and BG online and they've all been authentic but I've found some very interesting stuffings inside the bags - including plastic wrap with other labels on them, and we've all heard plenty of stories about getting less-than-pristine bags from NM/BG. Unless you get the very first shipment of a line, you are very likely getting someone's return, and if it's an 'only' item - you can bet it is. Sorry you got such a run-around (I've gotten those too and got my shipping credited) but I wouldn't worry too much about getting fakes from them.

I cannot recommend Aloha Rag highly enough. In the last month, I bought a Balenciaga First in White and then a City in Grenat from them and each time, the bag had come in a beautiful condition. The return policy for Aloha Rag is quite a hassle and can be expensive, so I am very sure they are not getting the same number of returns as NM or BG. I think you should have no qualms about buying from Aloha Rag, as long as you are pretty sure you would not be returning the bag.

Quite.

We do this and we're not even a big department store (just a fairly small, fine jewellery business), so why on earth can't they? :shrugs:

Really?

What about these details:

One interior pocket had sticky drippy marks on it and none of the pockets included the authenticity or care cards. Futhermore, it had wear marks and sticky glue stuff at the seams

Sounds like a fake to me...

chloehandbags - the authenticity and care cards are not permanently attached to the bag! They are attached with a string that can be cut and the tags discarded! As for glue/sticky stuff at the seams, that has happened with some Paddingtons in the manufacturing process and could be removed by the owner - it rolls right off the bag if you're savvy enough to figure it out (obviously the previous owner was not...). Drippy stuff? How about stains from makeup or similar? Sorry, but I stand by my theory that she got a used bag.

Unless we have pictures of this actual bag to determine authenticity, we can't all jump on the "OMG the bag is FAKE or was switched at birth!" bandwagon.

fake or used...either way i'd be

i've learned a lot about returns on this forum recently and have decided to adjust my shopping habits as a result

i do agree with roxanne about aloha rag, i think their policy would help ensure you're getting an authehtic and new bag

Indeed, i agree.

LVR do the tamper proof tag system too (yellow tag) - you cannot return a bag if the tag is missing, cut or broken.

As you say, the online companies should all do it, if not for their customers sake, but for their own credibility - then circumstances such as ^^^ will not be happening anymore.

That totally sucks. Bergdorf Goodman warehouses don't know sh*t to me. I've ordered clothes from there and they send me items w/ missing pieces on the item (hardware, etc). It's a chance you take because the people you speak to are not the people who package the orders. I've had better experience going to BG live and then just ship it from there. Plus, when you buy it from the BG store, overnight express is just $25
