what is the world coming to, itsgot2bthebag? i agree with roo, someone did the old ghetto switcheroo fakesy for realsy, and you got the sh!t end of the stick. any update though? did you get a new, real, mint condition chloe from BG? thats the least they should be offering you..

Hmmm.. Bergdorf has such an excellent reputation it is almost impossible to imagine them selling anything fake. I know the manager of the handbag dept. there and it is really inconceivable to me that they would even be duped in taking a fake in a return.... I am wondering if it is possible the bag was used in a fashion show or something.. or possibly was a legit return that had been "worn" and they didn't notice the damage... Regardless - good for you on your new bag - hope you love it!

I've heard that happening with several stores. I know someone who found Chanel bags in Off Fifth (Saks outlet) and bought them, assuming that they were coming from the Chanel counter in Saks itself. The person brought the bags to Chanel and the Chanel employee confirmed that they were fakes. She couldn't believe it (it's not like she paid $100 for a bag - she paid serious money).

I agree that the only place you might be able to find the authentic bag is at the actual boutique or in store...not online, even from the retailer.

It's so disappointing that we can have no faith whatsoever.

Someone on eBay is/was selling a blatant fake Prada as authentic. I thought I'd be a good little eBay citizen and let her know it wasn't real. She wrote me back, thanking me, then goes on to say "It's authentic. It came from Saks on Fifth and they don't sell fakes."

Have a look: eBay: AMAZING NWT CHOCOLATE FALL PRADA TOTE $1,195 NR (item 160020471111 end time Aug-27-06 18:02:54 PDT)

This is getting worrisome....

Hee, hee. I think I may see what the deal is here. The "Saks" tag says "Rosso". That means red in Italian, so either she switched the tag off or someone else did.

Yikes - it's affected Off Fifth too?
This is really scary - I suppose we should be thankful that we have the knowledge to recognize fake from real... can you imagine if someone else got the fake bag for Bergdorf's and not even knowing it's fake and having paid the price of a real one? Oh my... it's so hard to buy saffely these days!

Why does everybody not follow the lead of NAP, they have a tag physically attached to each item, and it has to be cut off, it cannot fall off. If removed, it CANNOT be returned. Its not rocket science for all of these department stores to start doing this is it!!
The money they will save in potentially allowing back fakes, and hence losing credibility it has surely got to be something they must start doing.

OMG!! I can't believe that. :yucky::yucky::yucky: I agree with Roo tho. Maybe someone returned that bag and they never checked to see if it was real. Glad you're getting a new one but I think they should have done more for you after that mix-up.

I am sure most everyone remembers my debacle with being sent a fake choco paddy from Bluefly. At the time, it was suggested that fakes infiltrated Bluefly with a return switcharoo, however I am pretty sure their buyers just grabbed the fakes directly.

It sounds very much like BG get a fake switcharoo from Bluefly. How sad. Esp since Bluefly denied that the Chloe was fake from start to finish.

From the way you described the bag, it sounds like a used (very used) return versus a fake. If it was tan, BG only sold that color in 2005, not 2006. Was the price $1380? If so, it was probably an old return and the previous owner threw away the care cards.

Fake would mean sketchy details like leather, color (not looking like the authentic bag) and hardware. I'm going to bet that bag was an old return, not a fake. Even so, they shouldn't have sold it in that condition.
