I just finished my first year of college and used the hamptons multifunction tote (in black)... i actually got one from last year at the outlet near me for $200 + tax ... they do get heavy but then again college books are heavy .. it has a lot of pockets to put pens and stuff in ... def would be a great graduation gift!

i'd recommend the transatlantic messenger. it comes with a pad inside to protect your laptop, and you can pretty much always find these at the outlets. i have a black one that i got for about $150 or so that has lasted me for about 5 years now.

i'd also recommend any of the baby bags (just as good as use for a laptop) as well as any of the multifunction totes.

I brought the large leather Carly for my laptop but it actually doesn’t fit in there, I have a 13 inch MacBook which is pretty small already.

You can first get her a Sleeve case for like $30.00

This would allow you to choose a lot other Coach bags because most coach bags are not designed to carry laptop (no padding).

The best ones are the Soho Penelope Satchel and the Hamptons business tote because a laptop will get heavy on her shoulder :sweatdrop:, and the straps need to be strong;or the baby bags (if she wants to carry notebooks and all).

Hope that helps

Ok, I'm graduating in less than two weeks. (I'm 36 - went back to school and am now finishing). I have tried a couple of different bags for school and honestly, I always go back to my Jansport backpack. I carry my laptop, folders, books, pens, small stapler, cords for various things, etc. It is just too heavy to put things in a bag that only goes on one shoulder and carry it around school all day. NOW - I have to add that if she will be living in the dorms, it will different in that it might be easy for her to get back to her dorm room between classes to exchange books. It depends on how big her campus is and which of her Prof's want you to bring your books to class.

I know the Jansport isn't as cute as my Coach (and other totes), but it works and doesn't kill my shoulder. Oh, and I carry a purse in addition to my backpack.

i have the same notebook and the sleeve! i went out and got the hard case because IMO its better and easier to carry around and use, and i think gives better protection.

I have the same pink wrislet as you do in the pic!! haha maybe we have similar taste:wlae:

The hard case is a good Idea! I have to look into that~~Thanks!

Wow, she's lucky to have you as a mom!
How about a different bag? maybe a katy, eva xl or a hamptons stripe satchel, sig tote or the multi-stripe tote? I'm recommending the bigger bags because I'm figured she'll want to carry other stuff with her laptop.
get a messenger bag. my mom bought my sis (high school senior) some new wallets and a realllly pretty signature messenger bag just for her laptop as part of her "school supplies" lol

Definately get something that is padded! I have a 15.4 widescreen laptop that I would carry in my Hamptons Book Tote and lets just say I did a number on the hinges! I like the sleeves that Heiman and Batgirl mentioned. I guess it's too late for met to get one! haha maybe when I get a new laptop.

here's my opinion. as a college student when i am going to classes, i'm going through busy hallways, having to set my stuff down on dirty floors, in bathrooms, etc. a really nice bag like a COACH will easily get dirty and messed up with as much wear as we college gals put on our totes and laptop bags. I bought a really nice backpack (it's a Fox Racing backpack with lots of padding and support, and lots of pockets) for a great price on EBAY and have a laptop sleeve i put my laptop in. THEN you can get her a few great COACH items that she will love. I have a swingpack, which I love taking to school, so easy to access, fits lots of stuff, fun to wear, not to heavy or bulky. I also have a wristlet and then a skinny mini. When I go to school, I carry my swingpack or wristlet in addition to wearing my backpack. Then maybe you can get her a nice leather shoulder bag like the Legacy Flap or Legacy Shoulder for when she goes out. Just a few suggestions!

I would do like everyone suggested and get a sleeve of some kind. I have a Mac laptop and the Mac store had them there when I bought it.
Then you can put it in whatever will hold it. I have a black optic baby bag and one of the men's messengers which is SUPER sturdy. I carry both depending on what I'm wearing.
I LOVE the baby bag. The side pockets are awesome and I usually slide a demi or one of the framed wristlets into it and it's outstanding.

I don't know if I'd want to haul around a Coach bag as a laptop case. Plus, I'm in graduate school so I've been in the college environment for five years. I've rarely, ever taken my laptop to class. I've found it's more of a hassle/distraction than it is worth. I'd say get a regular laptop bag and splurge on some other Coach items!

^^ ditto, I've never taken my laptop to class once and I don't see many other students with theirs either. Only time I ever actually move my laptop around is when I'm going back home (out of town) or when I'm going to the library to study. I used to use Vera Bradley totes for classes but got sick of them because everyone at my school has them and the tote size is too big for me! I ended up picking the Reversible Sig Stripe Tote for classes because all I end up needing to carry is a notebook or two for notes, water bottle, makeup, phone, etc. I don't know anyone who has to carry their textbooks around but maybe that's just at my university!
