You know what? If you buy a super quality diamond...great cut foremost and the other C's up there as well...it really doesn't matter the size because it will sparkle like mad and look amazing. Perfect example...look at the tiny diamonds at Tiffanys...they are gorgeous! They are well cut with great color and clarity etc. It isn't the size that matters...it is really everything else first...unless you just want a big rock that is!

I agree... I think color and clarify are on top of my list.. and then cut.. because nobody's going to come up to your ring with a magnifier... unless they are horrendously nosey,,, and then you should push them away. :graucho:

Eventhough you're sacrificing carat weight, I think asschers are cheaper than brilliants because they aren't as popular (that goes for asia, but I don't know about the US).. so I think the price even outs in the end. :flowers:

The Asscher is a very deep stone, which is why it will appear smaller than an equal carat weight of a round brilliant or other fancy shape.
A lot of the heft is in the bottom.

My asscher is just under 2 ct (1.96) but it measures to that of a 1.5 carat RB.

The branded Royal Asscher has a different look than those of non-branded, from what I recall. Non branded asschers tend to look more flat. Still a step cut, but without the depth that the extra facets seem to add. I researced both stones extensively before going with the branded cut.

Both are beautiful in their own right.
I know that some people actually prefer the flatter look because the facets of the RA make it appear too "busy"

Had to come back and take a peek...love Royal Asschers!

Your hands and your ring are both lovely^^
Thanks.
I think that all newly engaged.married women get their nails done more than usual so their hands look presentable when they're flashing the ring LOL.

My hands aren't looking so hot these days!! :hrmm:

I LOVE the Royal Asscher cut. I want that to be my next ring. I have to save money for one though...I don't think hubby is too thrilled about buying me another sparklie for a long time, he thinks that I should be happy with the RB he got me.

Elizabeth Taylor's 33 ct Asscher cut Krupp is DIVINE!!!

That's odd because a 1 ct brilliant diamond is 6 mm across while an asscher is 5.5 so the difference shouldn't be that huge.
My Asscher is 1.96 ct and it's 6.99mm across.
The dimensions of the table are about that of a 1.5 RB.

Different asschers of the same weight won't necessarily have the same table measurements because the DEPTH tends to vary from stone to stone.

The depth of my stone is 70%
Royal asschers tend to be cut pretty deep, which is why they appear smaller. Most of the weight is in the bottom.

I fell in love with the Asscher cut and researched it thoroughly before we ordered my engagement ring. I ended up choosing an emerald cut for the same reason mentioned above--the Asscher looked extremely small for the carat size. Now I love my emerald cut solitaire and I am so glad that I changed my mind. It was actually my jeweler who helped to change my mind by pointing out the pros and cons. I, too, would say to go for the Asscher if you can get a 4 or 5 carat stone. I have seen Asscher eternity bands that are gorgeous, also.--I would love one of those.
BlueNile.com is a good online site for looking at & comparing diamond size, etc.
