thanks for joining in the discussion. We really want someone with goretex experience as there aren't any at this forum other than imjase but he doesn't frequent this anymore.

I think even if you are not getting reduction surgery on your nose, you nose needs to look larger directly afterward... because the internals do contract overtime. But, you're right it will not collapse unless you are doing some sort of reduction.

goretex really doesn't have as many risks. That's why people choose this over silicone.
With silicone, it is imperative to find a good doctor. Because if the size or shape of implant is wrong, you can risk extrusion, mobility, etc. Also the infection rate is higher. But, these are just risks... and the risks are actually quite low if you go to a good doctor. But, pictures of extrusion really scare people

For goretex, there doesn't seem to be as many risks, but the result tends to be less impressive. A few doctors disagree with this... but MOST doctors say this is true. The complaint that I hear the most is that the shape of the nose, and the width of the nose is not ideal from goretex.

so kwell... I know quite a bit about silicone... but not nearly as much about goretex, although I too have felt its softness, etc.
What did you think of Dr. Jung's other works?

You used to have silicone? Are you going to go back to it?

I just read one of your posts on the Singapore forum. I agree with you on everything except one thing.

L implant is ok if your surgeon knows what he is doing.

for the L implant. The L implant is not in charge of shaping the tip, although it goes there. If you go to a doctor that says that, you either are misunderstanding him, or need to run away. the strut, if used by a good surgeon, only serves two purposes: 1. collumella shaping 2. reduces mobility and displacement of implant.
If the L strut is not cut short enough, it should never extend all the way (many docs do extend it to shape the tip <--which is one of the biggest and most common misconception of L implant), you are asking for extrusion if it is not trimmed properly.
the pressure comes from the strut pushing up. Therefore the strut needs to be trimmed shorter.
Now, with I implant, you risk it shifting into different position over the years.

Silicon is a def no no for me, gortex was definetly my choice, but now Im thinking whether to go to that Toriumi doctor as he does seem to know his stuff and got soo much books dedicated to noses and research
The price tag that turned me off but Im thinking whether its best to save up to go to him then so korea and hope I wont have any problems with gortex??
God im so confused!!

Glad to know that you have already made a choice! Its so hard to decide isnt it? (at least for me)

Maybe you can share with us, why you are so firm on goretex and choose it over silicon?

Till now, I cant stare at all these without feeling.. a little... irky.

Someone said that she is going to ask the doctor to SHOW her the height of the nose during the procedure..before she is stitched up.
I imagine, if the doctor was to ask me.. I would probably freak out.

I got a reply back from Dr. Kim & he says he usually does the nose surgery first, then eyelids.

I also asked about having sharper features with the Goretex & he said Goretex usually yields a more natural look but if I want a more sharper defined nose (which is what I want) he can do that with Goretex.

I love Dr. Toriumi and was on my way to Chicago to see him because I know I can rest my case with this talented and extremely competent man - I feel that if he cannot correct or help solve your problems, you had better wake up and smell the coffee, don`t waste too much more time (and money!! pass them to me) However, time is bad with his earliest appointment in Nov/Dec !!

Be forewarned that Dr. Toriumi do NOT use any silastic implants anymore for the past 8 years ! He is truely a specialist in Rhinoplasty who goes the extra mile to make it your LAST nose job!

Hi there !

In brief I will highlight my personal experiences with both the materials and I tend to compare with people with the same interest just to be sure as follows:

Silicone:

1. Readily Available
2. Cheap
3. Easy to shape and insert
4. Does not change shape and density
5. Gives very good definition and contouring for a more apparent augmented look i.e. as sharp as you wish or vice versa
6. Looks like own bone if shaped properly
7. Long lifespan
8. Easy to remove with minimum injury to surrounding tissues

Gortex:

1. Soft
2. 30 Times more expensive
3. Difficult to shape, needs to open nose to slap on layer by layer, sheet by sheet ...
4. Changes thickness, density and ultimately shape over first few months (hence surgeons tend to over-correct)
5. Does not give very good definition and strength to the nose
6. May be uneven and bumpy along the bridge
7. Looks natural
8. Great for volume filling especially those with extreme saddle noses
9. Risk of infection is still higher than silicone based on published medical reports by Asian surgeons
10. Difficult to remove with time (above 5-6 mths based on opinions of surgeons - think layers as opposed to a block & it binds with tissues)
11. Not readily available or used in some countries

wonder where Dawn got her color contact, that's so hot. I already have contact for near-sighted eyes, how can I get prescripted color contact? I think her contact is different from the regular color contact. the regular one has the same color all over it, but her contact has the color only on the edge. those contact has a purpose to make your eyes look bigger(bigger than the size of your eyeballs) and change color the same time, but the regular contact only changes your eye color(same size of your eyeballs), is that right? I have an American eye doctor, how can I explain this to him to get the contact Dawn has?

It's a circle lens. He may not have even heard of this, because they don't really sell it in the US. These lenses are bad for your eyes... so it's at a cost to make the eyes look bigger.

you can get them when you're overseas or online...

would regular color lenses work the same as the circle lenses? there are prescripted color contact, right? as long as the color lenses are bigger than the size of the eyeballs, it will enlarger the eyes, right? I really want to get it!

All the colored prescription contact lenses I ever got before Lasik was fit to the size of my eye. The ones that Maskd is talking about is circle lenses that make your eye appear bigger than it is & she is correct in saying that it is not safe for your eye.

I would think using it for a little while won't be that bad but not for regular use. I think Korea made it first & you can buy them when you go over there if you want to try it out.

I want to try it out too but not to wear for a long period of time. Probably put it on & take some Glamour Shots lol & take them back out. I sound so vain but I'm really not teehee

the size of transparent contact is bigger than my eyeballs, I can see the egde when staring into my eyes. I hope the color prescripted corlor contact will be the same size as the transparent one,anyways, I need to talk to my doctor, I will print out a picture of the circle lenses to show him what is it ans ask him the size of the color lenses. I want to wear the color ones the same way I wear my regular contact. anyways, enough of the lense!:back2topic:how do you want your nose to be revised, Kimosa? did you get my email?

This is exactly why I am considering Dr Toriumi, he seems like a perfectionist and also corrects even the most impossible bad nose job cases, lets just say I could trust him. And thats the main thing.. TRUST! A bonus is that he know english 100% therefore I can communicate to him exactly what I want.

Im not going for silicon because just a simple google brings back disadvanges of using the stuff in the long term, but the only thing i like about it is that it can also be easily removed... but if i have a nise job I want it done one and not to think about having a revison years down the line.

Gortex, yeh, sounds great to me, I was happy with this material and the thought of having my ribs grafted freaked me out!! Gortex was my option as i didnt want silicon and didnt want stuff ripped outta me and put on my nose.

After much consideration I think I am prepared to have my ribs used only because dr T insists on using it, belive me if Dr T used gortex than id use that, but there must be a reason why he prefers grafting from your own stuff....

Dont get my wrong, id probs change my mind again, but at the mo I am considering rib grafting..... BUT IS £££££ waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!
