Oh don't say THAT, people are having so much fun being outraged, and a whole new generation of kids who went to get a red bull or some Oxy during the Aretha part of the Grammys are finding out who she is.

Like maybe the young boy in my own hood who just the other day, proudly and solemnly informed a small gathering of Old School Neighbors, including me, that Miss Rosa Parks was Dr King's widow.

I bet if any of us had been able to get it together enough, we would have also told him that Aretha is the Queen.

It's good to know that today, it is almost certain that he knows.

oh god!! :roflmfao:

Motown met D.C. on Tuesday night as Aretha Franklin and Condoleezza Rice played a concert together in Philadelphia to raise money for inner-city music education. Aretha supplied the vocals, while Condi hammered it out on the piano. Both ladies later sat down with "Good Morning America" to talk about their political views and the importance of music. The event raised a total of $582,000.

Oh no, how sad! Some of the reports are saying pancreatic cancer with less than a year to live, let's hope those aren't true.

Every time I hear her name, immediately the image of her from The Blues Bros pops into my head - "You better think about it!"

Aretha Franklin "Doing Very Well" After Surgery
Reuters

LOS ANGELES

Soul singer Aretha Franklin is "recovering and her spirits are high" after surgery for an undisclosed health issue, according to U.S. civil rights leader Jesse Jackson.

"She's doing very well. She's very prayerful. She's a woman full of deep religious faith," Jackson was quoted as telling the Detroit News after a private visit with Franklin at an undisclosed location in the city on Friday.

Franklin's publicist, Tracey Jordan, confirmed on Saturday the Jackson visit. Neither said what was ailing the 68-year-old singer, who last month canceled all her appearances until May 2011.

Franklin said in a statement on Thursday that she had undergone "highly successful surgery" but no one has disclosed the nature of her illness.

The legendary singer of 1960s hits like "Chain of Fools" and "Respect" had continued a busy schedule of touring and recording until late October.

In January 2009, she sang at the inauguration of President Barack *****.

I was just about to say the same thing. Such a ravaging disease. I figured something major was wrong since she was so quiet and there was a prayer vigil. I will say a prayer for her and wish her the best.

Below is a link to a more updated story. She has Pancreatic Cancer (same as Patrick Swayze)...which is very agressive. I truly, truly wish her the best.

UPDATE: WJBK FOX 2 News in Detroit confirms that Franklin has cancer. A family insider told the station that she's doing, "OK," but they ask for the public's prayers.
PREVIOUSLY:
A week after undergoing surgery for a mystery illness, the National Enquirer reports (via PopCrunch) that famed singer Aretha Franklin has incurable pancreatic cancer.
The surgery, labeled a success, came under mysterious circumstances. This is the first time this illness has been reported. In November, she canceled all concerts through May 2011 due to "medical reasons."
The Enquirer's report lists pancreatic survival rates at 5-10%, and even lower for someone of Franklin's age and weight.
