Aretha Franklin

A friend of my mum's will be playing at the funeral; she is a member of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra (a backup band/orchestra player, not a soloist). What an honor that must be.

As for the lack of a will, it is a shame. Unfortunately, the families of celebrities are no better than anyone else when it comes to their behaviour in the face of lots of money. Living trusts or at least wills go a long way toward distributing assets the way the deceased would prefer. It seems she preferred avoiding the topic more than making sure her assets ended up with the people she valued most - common for those afraid of death, but tragic for their families.

Aretha had a very eventful life and touched so many people. I hope she was happy when she died and went peacefully.
I think she has a will. The lawyer isn’t using it for some reason.

I've been listening on the radio to interviews about Aretha - people talking about her and also her father. Listening to what everyone says, he was very influential, active in civil rights, leader in the community......
not a peep about the unconventional goings-on in the church
I heard about those unconventional goings-on in the church. :wtf: and I also heard that her father may be the father of her first child. wow.

that doesn't seem right. If she had a will then that would be her wishes and I'd think he'd be ethically bound to use it
I hear you but something is funny. But didn't Aretha Franklin funeral, I thought it was Aretha herself,, so why didn't she make a will. I'm not trying to be rude but I could be wrong.

I certainly have no first-hand knowledge, but NPR reported today that Franklin had no will. Regardless of what is or is not in place, I have to wonder how she was such an adept businesswoman, yet had either failed to make a plan for her death or failed to take action on such a plan. Almost without exception, the vultures come out after a celebrity death. I would have imagined that she would have had an air-tight plan to assure her assets went where she wanted them to go.

The preacher today groped poor Ariana’s breast. Multiple times, right in front of everyone, and on camera no less.

I couldn't belive my eyes. So f*cking blatant... you rewatch video and you can see her trying to pull away & his fingers digging in. Who does this? Let alone at a memorial. His "apology" is a joke, too.

I was wondering when someone would comment on what happened to Ariana Grande. I just happened to turn on the news right in the middle of it. And the poor woman having to sing in front of Bill ******* and some of those other men in the front row ogling her. Disgusting. I do think her dress was inappropriate for the occasion but that's in no way an excuse for these old guys' behaviour towards her, including the overly excited preacher. Look away or at her head ffs.

True. It should have been about Aretha but I guess in showbiz it's more about self.

Listening to this and looking at the pics made me cry. Another angel voice back with God.

Love this one. Shabba, dooda, la, dwee, da! :happydance:

Since your post (and a few others), I went back and did some searching. I can only tell you that what is available from web searches today about the New Bethel Baptist Church incident involving a then emerging militant group has pretty clearly been scrubbed. It was a MUCH bigger incident at the time than what most can read today. If you could go back to newspaper and television archives from 1969-1970, you may find your blood curdling. It had the potential to set off a whole new round of riots and possibly a civil war.

I'll leave it at that for this thread since it isn't really all that relevant.
