I just saw an $18000 yellow gold and diamond DY chain that said made in China on the tag. My SA said they are now outsourcing all types of pieces there - not just the silver. I’ve already had quality issues with my gold pieces made in Thailand and India. I certainly wouldn’t take a chance with pieces made in China. The Yurmans keep raising the costs of their prices while the quality, year after year, keeps decreasing. It’s sad because I like the designs but just can’t rationalize spending money on these pieces anymore.

I was thinking of buying this bracelet:

I am now thinking I won't after looking at pre-owned for sale on ebay. I do that not so I can buy it through there at a discount, but I like to see how they wear over time. On every single listing the "18k" heart looks tarnished which makes me think it's plated and not solid. The official description says "Sterling silver with 18-karat yellow gold." So is that a sneaky way of saying plated or similar as opposed to a solid gold heart? Solid gold never tarnishes.

I tried to find the country of origin on their website and couldn't find one, but where it's listed on Bloomingdale's or Saks, can't remember the exact one, it says "imported."

I'm really disappointed because I was loving the bracelet otherwise!

Came back to add that they have an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau.
It's solid gold , not plated. The gold on my bracelets still looks perfect after years of wear.

I was surprised to see there isn’t a dedicated David Yurman thread. If I missed it let me know. I’m curious what others opinion is of the brand. When you think of David Yurman do you think of luxury jewelry or has it become so mainstream that the quality and craftsmanship is no longer what it used to be? I loved DY back in the 2000s then got more into Cartier, Dinh Van, Bvlgari etc. Only recently have I started liking DY again, mostly because I enjoy mixing metals and I like some of their newer designs. Please share your thoughts and how you style DY. I’m currently contemplating adding this blue topaz ring. I already have the gold band. I would like to know what you think.

I love this on you, and coincidentally, I actually own this exact ring. The blue topaz was my favorite of the stone options. I really like it. I've had it for about 6 months and it's held up great. It's very comfortable to wear and I've gotten compliments on it. I also love that the cable motif is not as tightly wound on this piece, which makes it look lighter and brighter than the classic cable pieces, which look more darkened.

My only concern is that the gold bezel is 14k gold and not 18k gold, and I know on some of the classic cable pieces the 14k gold is actually gold plated, not solid. So I'm not sure how the gold will wear over time. I could not get a straight answer from the DY boutique about whether the bezel is solid or plated. However, they did offer to clean it for me anytime I wanted if I stopped in.

I thought the price was really reasonable for a substantial and unique silver piece. No regrets from me.

Thanks so much for your reply. I had the same exact hesitation regarding the bezel. If it was bonded gold I didn’t want it because I knew it wouldn’t hold up over time. I would only wear it and want it if it was a solid gold bezel. Both my sales associate and customer service from the 1800 number have assured me it is solid gold. They said it’s stamped 585 and that indicates solid and not bonded. I guess bonded gold has different stamping. I hope that gives you peace of mind! I would love to see the ring on you!

I see David Yurman as quite special in its own right/category, between designer and fine. It has a cool, fresh vibe and I definitely want to get a piece but am slightly put off by all the stories about lack of quality after DY started outsourcing the production.
Despite this I will probably get a cable design at some point, it’s quite iconic.
I definitely like the two rings together on you.

Hi, so sorry for the delay in responding. I’m a terrible photographer, but here is a picture of me wearing the ring. I don’t see any stamp on the ring anywhere, but it’s very reassuring that the DY SAs affirmed its solid gold.

It looks great on you! Very pretty 🩵

Now I’m contemplating the garnet vs the blue topaz. This garnet is more of a pink than a red. I like the blue for summer but I’m wondering if garnet would be more versatile for year round. Did you try all the stones/color options on? Or did you know you wanted blue topaz right away? These pictures are from my SA so I haven’t tried on myself yet, which I need to do 😁

Goodness, you and I really have similar taste! Garnet was my runner-up choice. I didn’t try on all of the stones but immediately gravitated toward the blue topaz and garnet. I truly loved both but chose the topaz because it was a happier color to me, and I really needed a pick-me-up at the time. But I agree it’s very summery looking, as the undertone is quite cool. I do think the garnet is versatile year round. I’m sure you will make the best choice for yourself. Have fun shopping!

I have a similar flex bracelet purchased many years ago. 6mm sterling silver with diamond ends. One of my favorites.
Has yours kept its shape over time? I’m wondering if these flex styles get distorted after a while. I had a tiffany T wire bracelet and it lost its shape after less than a year of wearing it. I wonder if any open flexible bangle is susceptible to this.

This is my only DY flex. Never a problem with any of my DY bracelets. I usually pair this one with a 7mm oval closed with a diamond station. Thinking that oval clasped bracelets have long been retired. 2 of my favorites.

I do prefer 5mm or wider. but 4mm works well with 3 stacked. 2 stacked works best for me as I am small boned.

Enjoy!

Thank you! That’s good to know. I’m planning to stack this with a rose gold small Cartier JUC. I think they will look really nice together 🥰 also just wondering do you wear size small? I’m a 16 in the JUC. And 5.75” wrist. I only have a DY chain bracelet, this would be my first cuff.
