Are Louboutins outdated?

Louboutin’s comments while attracted many to his beautiful shoes, also deterred others from buying a pair. the most common question I get by non-CL owner is “are they comfortable”? I wear other designer non-CL high heels and never get asked that when wearing those.

This thread is interesting because there is a genuine curiosity as to how Mr. Louboutin is perceived. Just like there has always been lots of curiosity about the tall heels with the red soles!

I really like the documentary God Save My Shoes, its worth watching as it relates to this thread.

I also think it's less people visibly wearing heels in general. Someone posted a similar thread on whether or not Valentino Rockstuds were outdated. It's mostly just - heels are 'off the boil'.

It happens it's just fashion. They'll all be back next week, just slightly different so they can get us to spend more money on things we already have. I'm already over sneakers/trainers, now I'm thinking "Mmmmm those CL/H/V/Gucci heels look nice" and I don't even normally wear them.

Interesting.

I am petite (read short) and work(ed) in a male corporate environment. In Germany (where guys are big). So throughout my career heels have been my friend. I would not venture in a meeting room without a pair of them. And they do make a difference (Until I broke my foot and started wearing DMs to the office, which made a different kind of impression, but that’s another story and by then I had already built a reputation). All this to say, when I mentor women, specially women of a petite disposition who are prone to be patronized by men, I do always advise them, girl, go climb on a good pair of heels.

That said I do feel certain heels, heels that are too high, too thin, too strappy, heels that are obviously not made for walking... are not in line with the idea of a strong powerful woman that I like. This is just a personal feeling. Yes, every woman should wear whatever they fancy, but there is a layer of meaning to those shoes that I find troubling. Now that I hardly ever wear heels (don’t we all), I feel this even stronger.

So, do I think Louboutins are outdated? I do feel that, in general, they are a bit off and not in tune with the times right now...

I have been trying to rephrase my post over and over again but I don't manage to put my thoughts into text without it sounding wrong, so I'll reiterate "what Doni said":

This is really interesting and something I’ve been thinking about recently. I’ve worn my CL heels maybe twice in the past few years because they really aren’t very comfortable. I used to think that was just part of having fabulous shoes and I didn’t worry about it. Now I don’t see the point in suffering when I can be comfortable.

I’ve also wondered about the “male gaze” aspect of them and who I was being uncomfortable for. I felt sexy in my heels, but I’ve come to believe that I can be sexy AND comfortable and my CL’s don’t really fit in with my lifestyle anymore.

ITA with this ^ @doni, doc martens can be sexy :D

@SnowBlossom, agree re heels. Pre ankle cartilage replacement surgery, I used to be able to run in heels. Post surgery, I’d rather just be able to walk gracefully. If that means Birkenstock’s, well, I love my valentino collaboration Birkenstock’s and my Rick Owens collaboration Birkenstock’s

sometimes DH needs to carry heavy handbags (one reason why I switched to the smaller B30). I don’t need to ask him to slow down bc I’m in heels ;)

@Hermes Nuttynut, waving! Off to google fosomax! Hugs

I will never ever forget the feeling I got when I first laid eyes on a photo of I believe the Thai princess wearing black heels with red soles. I instantly blushed the same way I do when I see a cute guy. This was before I even knew anything about this brand, just knew I needed to have it. That combination along with the nude and red soles to me will never go out of style, especially one with a classic heel silhouette. The crazy high, it’s never been my style.

In the end though the only pair I owned was the pigalle 100. It was the only come that didn’t kill me. I am looking into planet choc.

Love this ^! If I felt this way about any article of fashion I would immediately buy x pairs and get rid of other competitors for my affection! They’re perfect for you!

I am currently watching the real housewives of Beverly Hills from the beginning and that time(2010/2011) all of them were wearing Louboutin heels and only the (small or clunky high) platform versions (no sleek styles like so kate) I indeed remember platform and peeptoe louboutins ( and platform pumps and heels in general) were all the craze in the 2008-2012 era. For the past few years sleeker styles like the so kate have dominated the fashion scene. But it also seems like designer brands like Gianvito Rossi or Aquazzura have been more popular than Louboutin in the past few years. That is why Louboutin reminds of a certain era when it was all the hype (2008-2012) and then the hype died down and In that period we became oversaturated with so many celebs, reality tv stars and people in going out/club scene wearing louboutin shoes to death and because of this they may seem a bit outdated? Louboutin still makes gorgeous designs and adapts to the current trends but it is never good when items/brands are too overhyped/oversaturated.

The same with “it bags”. Seven years ago everybody was going crazy for the Celine luggage totes, waiting lists and all that and suddenly they were so out of fashion and nowhere to be seen on the streets. I personally believe people should find their own signature style and wear what they feel comfortable in and not focus too much on every trend. But fashion trends come and go. And suddenly things may seem “outdated”. And there will always be new brands/items that are suddenly the hype of the year/season.

I think that the Louboutin red sole makes every pair of shoes more sexy than a simple pair of pumps. Nothing wrong with a little sex appeal as long as the person wearing it feels good/comfortable wearing the item.

Do you think the platform loubs are out of style then? Would be it be strange to see a daf booty or a highness out and about? Are they somewhat tacky when sleeker styles are more the rage now?

Until my 16 pairs of Louboutins (mostly SKs) and about 40 other designer brand 100mm+ stilettos wear out...and replacements can not be bought, I’m wearing them. If you are afraid of the PC police and want to wear flip flops, have at it. That’s not style, it’s slop. Yeah, I’ll get a lot of flak, but strong (okay, short, but strong) women can take the flack.
