Are diamonds by the yard worth it?

Hello friends. I have been doing some online window shopping and was wondering whether the Diamonds by the yard collection (the necklace and bracelet specifically) are worth it in terms of the size of the diamond and the overall look. I note that the diamonds are pretty small but I'm after more of an everyday look (love the idea of everyday diamonds). Also - is YG or WG best option to maximise the look of these?
Secondly I know Cartier has their own similar collection 'diamants legers' - is that a better option for the similar style?

Thanks in advance!

Personally I don't care for Diamonds by the Yard, but they're very popular and many wearers love them and want more. Great! I've been in many different Tiffany stores and all the SA's have been very kind and helpful. I'd suggest you try some on at a store and see. This is kind of warped, but I had lady relatives that always wore mega diamonds even when pulling weeds in their hot humid gardens and other yardwork, getting muddy in the process. They just washed them up and kept on wearing them! Whatever you decide will be lovely!

I like the DBTY but I opted for the Cartier version in the small size after trying on both. I just found the Cartier one more unique and loved the chain more. The diamond seemed to stand out more to me as well but it was really just personal preference. If you really like the DBTY and it doesn’t have to be a luxury brand, i found that Blue Nile and Adiamor were a better value and you can choose your diamond. I have used Blue Nile twice and would purchase again. If you prefer luxury, Tiffany’s was cheaper thank Cartier for a larger diamond size.

These are really layering pieces for me. Why not consider buying a non-branded version, perhaps with several stations, and then save up for a bigger ticket Tiffany or Cartier item to go with it? Just a thought.
I agree. I had my jeweler make me an “inspired by” diamonds by the yard white gold bracelet and necklace. Looks just like the real thing at a fraction of the cost. Most reputable jewelers will only use the highest quality diamonds.

I absolutely love Diamonds by the Yard. It is one of my favorite collections. I own a .32 in platinum, .14 in yellow gold, .25 cttw 5 stone in silver and CBTY platinum aquamarine bracelet. I would love to add more to my collection. I want a larger single stone, a 3 stone CBTY in platinum or yellow gold and long necklace to wrap. I wear the .32 on its own or layered and the bracelet constantly. I wear the other necklaces layered only. I love the simple, elegant design.

Is it worth it to get from Tiffany’s? For me it was but other jewelers make a similar look.

What size stone should you get?
You should get the biggest your price point can afford if you are buying a single stone. Diamond shrinkage is a thing.

Thanks everyone for your valued input! I think for me personally I would like to buy a brand name item i.e tiffany or cartier over wholesale or blue nile etc sites - no judgement at all on anyone who makes a different choice but this is just my personal preference and choice!

So I'm interested to hear from people who have picked DBTY over diamants legers (or vice versa) and why so. Thanks again to everyone who has provided input :)

Thann you for your detailed response! Agreed that it looks so timeless and elegant, and the newest colours (ruby) look so fun and fresh too. Have a great day :)

Thank you for your input! I think for me personally I would like it to be a luxury brand purchase so it's between Tiffs and Cartier for me. Interesting to hear about the design of diamants legers being unique!

I chose Tiffany diamond by the yard necklace, mostly because they give you a diamond clarity score. I think mine is VS1. Cartier does not do that.
Tiffany is flexible in that you can also choose your carat size, and it comes in a variety of sizes, so you can find a size that matches your preference and price point. I believe Cartier only has small, medium, and large.

However, Tiffany diamond by the yard bracelets do not have a clarity score for some reason.

For me, the Tiffany's DBTY is worth it. I purchased a rose gold one (0.1 ct) 7 years ago and still wear it today as a layering piece. Two years after that I wanted a bigger diamond and finally purchased a platinum one (0.3 ct). This piece I wear everyday that I wear white gold/platinum pieces and still love it. The quality is great and I think you get a slightly better deal than Cartier since there are more choices.

I have a DBTY and I think that it is worth it. I think that it is most important to think about your own style and what looks best on you. Tiffany DBTY is a very delicate look with thin chain and floating diamond. This is what I preferred and it looks the best on me as I'm a small person. As others mentioned, many other jewellers do make similar styles. Cartier has a thicker chain and the chain is shinier than Tiffany's, I believe their bezel is also bigger so it looks more substantial but less delicate. With Cartier's chain, you can also adjust the length of your necklace/ bracelet if I remember correctly. If you're asking about bang for your buck, DBTY may not be the best deal for the best quality/largest diamond...you can probably find a better deal with online sellers. But, I think that with this price point you're considering and with brand names, you're paying for the design where the smallest details do make a huge difference. Obviously, the quality of diamond, service, and after-care at Tiffany's is also excellent.

In terms of YG or WG, you should see what looks best with your skin tone. And also what colour jewelry do you wear the most? If you like to match your jewelry, and you tend to wear a lot of silver, then WG would be a good option. If you are also considering platinum jewelry in the future and want everything to match, then go for the WG. If you look best in warmer colours and/or don't care about mixing metals, then go with YG.

I hope this gives you some insight! :)
