It is also the preference of the authenticators to comment on current, not closed, auctions and sales, and to give authentication to members who post in a range of threads, not just requesting free authentication for designer items. If your request is not answered here, for whatever reasons, professional authentication services are available outside of PF.

Applicable to Post # 8327 8328,8332 and 8333.

What an odd thing to write since I have almost 300 posts and a lot of those are helping other people authenticate their Chanel. I think there aren't enough people to help in this thread.

Hello and thank you in advance for your time and expertise!

Item: Auth Hermes INDIGO BOX sellier Kelly 32 cm GoldHW shoulder bag purse
Listing number: #3055
Seller: mimiaction
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Auth-Hermes...777?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item338100f949
Comments if any: Does the Kelly appear to have been to the spa and/or is that its natural patina? Also, do you know if that's the original strap? I know only enough to possibly get myself into trouble.

I don't think it has been re dyed, but it may have been worked on and you should ask the seller if that is so. It is the original strap, the clasp pre dated the current style of clasp.

Just purchased a gorgeous Hermes large dark brown handbag. Is there any way to authenticate it or tell if it is real? It has a gorgeous cream logo silk lining, perfect stitching and the end of the actual zipper, not the pull is an "H". The zipper pull is engraved not a raised name. It is clearly stamped inside on the leather and the leather is an obvious expensive handtooled feel. Any help would be appreciated.

Exswiss: It's not rocket science. Anyone who wants to learn will be richly rewarded by putting in some real effort themselves...here's how: 1) Go to a reputable seller (e.g. the official Hermes site, Malleries, the Japanese online boutique L'ecrin) and pay attention to all the details on authentic bags. And I do mean ALL of them! 2) Next, go to the "ebay fakes" thread and notice exactly where the imitation bags fall short. The differences can be subtle, but once you've seen enough genuine bags the flaws in the fakes become blatantly obvious. What used to seem like a "good fake" quickly becomes a total joke. 3) Examine your own bag with a ruthless eye. Got it? Good. Don't worry, anyone can do it--with a keen, discriminating eye, you'll learn soon enough. Good luck!

P.S. Rule of thumb: If you have to ask, it's probably fake. :)

I don't agree. There are plenty of wonderful bags out there that are real and people will need to ask to be sure. And this sounds like a plug for a specific seller.

Hmmm, it's not always as simple as that but there are some helpful points there.

I just want to note that the authenticators pay very close attention to this thread. If we haven't answered a request, 99% of the time there is a reason, and that reason can be found in the first post in this thread.

And although people mean to be helpful, those new to PF or to the site often have not demonstrated any familiarity with authentic Hermes items and when they render an opinion, it can be confusing and misleading.

I agree with audreylita that there are indeed a lot of wonderful, authentic bags available at resale and that the statement "if you have to ask, it's probably fake" is not necessarily true, but more indicative of someone who may not be that familiar with the item in question.
