Anyone received the Feather Charm?

With my Dakotah the feather charm is the first thing that catches people's eye. There was a lot of workmanship that went into that leather one. Every little gold dot on the ends is a progned rivet, if you turn it over you can see the tiny prongs. And it never noticed until a few days ago, but the ball chain is different too. The balls have slightly squared off edges. I am debating whether or not to use a tiny bit of Loctite glue on the connector to ensure that thing NEVER falls off.

Oh I'm glad you got it!! Very odd though. My feather was boxed separately (and very nicely) with a card inside the box mentioning it was a gift from the fall 2014 collection.

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to understand! Just a question...did you get gift wrapping? My SA processed mine that way before I realized it (I never ask for it because I don't like my bag jammed in the small gift box, which the box was indeed small but at least fit). I bought the fringe Dakotah, which is obviously not the Rhyder, but the thing is, that bag also doesn't show the feather fob in the stock photos either. I'm just wondering if maybe because it was gift wrapped that they pulled out the fob and placed it on the bag? Or do the Dakotah bags just come with it already on the bag (and maybe they just never changed the stock photos)?? In some ways, honestly, it doesn't even show up on my bag given that the fringe sort of masks it. It's just that I was told it was on the list of bags that ship with it, but then same with the upper end Rhyders. Really trying to understand.... :thinkin:

I just noticed too that the fringe has the tiny gold studs at the bottom just like the leaf, which doesn't really match the hardware, so I guess it's intentional. I had wondered if maybe the leaf did because it was never really intended to come with the bags. I'm really clueless... :p

Well that's good. Are you going to keep it?

My original concern was if the bag didn't come with the fob, and since the bags had it at the store, I wasn't going to keep it for sure. Now it's a question of whether I can make it work for me, and if so, I will keep it. I was busy, so I only looked at it and tried it briefly, but I notice it's really hard to deal with the turnlock. It also seems smaller/tighter than what I remember, and the leather thinner than the display bag. However, it might all be because it's new out of packaging. If it's too much of a PITA, I'll swap it for the small Dakotah that doesn't have the issue of the turnlock, or the red nubuck Rhyder. It was down to these two bags anyway, but I fell in love with the fringe and thought the Rhyder was too big. I'll make something work for sure, but if I buy the Rhyder, it will be from the flagship store that I know has the feather fob on it. This whole thing is ridiculous!

That's been my biggest fear too ... the issue of the ball chain. I actually took the feathers, tags, etc off the chain and restrung them onto a split ring keyring. (Anyone who does it, use a small screwdriver to hold the split ring open as you glide the leather feather around, so you don't have to tug too hard on the leather.) I even wrapped the ball chain around the the split ring, just to keep everything together. It's not quite as delicate looking as the ball chain, but it's a heck of a lot sturdier.

I then considered attaching the split ring to a free-standing trigger clasp (the kind of clasp you find at the end of vintage Willis or Station bag straps). That too is sturdy, far sturdier than a dogleash clip, and would allow movement from bag to bag. ........ But in all honesty, I'm almost scared someone would try to unclip this thing and swipe it. :-/ So, thus far, I have the entire split ring attached to a loop on my black Kristin. It has no chance of falling off, and no way could anyone even swipe it, unless they have at least a few minutes of time and a screwdriver handy. I'm always paranoid about keyrings and fobs, but even more so about this one. I shouldn't be ... but the thought of losing it ... just, "no".

My bag DID come with the feather, but it was already attached to the bag...no special box and was not listed on the invoice. However, I guess this may just be for the Rhyders? No clue, but my bag doesn't show the feather fob in the stock photo either. :shrugs:

Yay!!! Eh, don't worry about the box (which I'm sure you know). Just enjoy the feeling of relief. :)

Wait wait wait .... you mean you got the large Dakotah? You mean this one, in this link? ---
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/reveal-my-new-large-cross-body-whipstitch-dakota-880367.html

I don't know how many times I've read here, in multiple threads, that the large Dakotah (that's the one with that fringe, right?) does *not* come with the leather feather, while the smaller Dakotah does. I only emphasize this because it seemed to be the predominant knowledge, being stated repeatedly.

Itbag got the fringe/large Dakotah wayyyyy back (well, some days at least), and that link is the link to her reveal thread. Hers did *not* come with a leather feather, and I believe she ordered her Dakotah well before any shortage that Coach is claiming. (She was, however, one of those who purchased the $60 all-metal feather fob separately, via calling Jax, and that's what you see attached to her Dakotah in that reveal thread. Her large Dakota did not come with *any* feather fob though, iirc.)

Am I reading this wrong? Is that the same fringe Dakotah you purchased? If so, that would make this even more confusing. :thinkin:

I'm so sorry! Those fringe bags are definitely confusing, but I bought the whiplash leather fringe in the small size (it's the all around fringe with the turnlock- #33939, I think). I don't know if anyone has revealed this one or not, but it's slightly larger than the small Dakotah but smaller than the large fringe Dakotah you're talking about. If you look at the stock photos for the whiplash fringe, it doesn't show the feather fob for either the small or large size, just the hangtags, but in reality, if the feather fob did not exist on the bag, there would be no tags at all....at least on mine. However, I once ordered two Legacy duffles that had no hangtags either, so I guess the regular tags could be missing, but I don't think so. I think I remember just one piece at the store now that I think about it, but I looked at a lot of bags too. I'm assuming the stock photo for the whiplash fringe is wrong, and they put the feather fob on the bag to begin with, but I wanted to confirm with chops whether she had hers arrive in a gift box or not since maybe if they gift wrap the bag, they add the fob? I guess they would still include it separately even if you didn't, but I just wanted to rule that out. The thing is, Coach needs to change their stock photos if it's a mistake.

Oh, one exception is I believe that the suede Dakotah in the large size (no fringe) does come with it, whereas the leather version large size (no fringe) does not.

Ahhhhhhh, okay. Yes, that makes sense. What threw me off was your mention of the fringe with the studs at the bottom ---- the large Dakotah has that too at the sides, and that is the one that itbag did such a nice reveal of.

So now the tally looks like: Small Dakotah comes with leather feather (as pictured), Dakotah with full fringe (33939; yours) might come with feather (as yours did) (but not as pictured), suede comes with feather (but not as pictured), suede Large Dakotah does come with feather, whereas Large leather Dakotah does not come with feather (accurate to picture pictured). ... And that doesn't begin to touch the Rhyders. ... Ya need a freakin' score sheet for this, and yes, those pictures should be more accurate. Not just on their site, but in all that advertising. Sigh.

Ok, thank you for clearing that up. ..... Man, did Coach mess this whole thing up. smh

At least I don't remember the brown leather large Dakotah with the feather, but seems that ltbag got the violet color with it from a dept store? So I don't know if anything is really consistent.

I think I only saw the black fringe (both versions) and brown in both suede and leather in the large Dakotah sizes in the store. They had the blue and black in the small sizes in store, plus the whiplash fringe. All had feathers except for the large brown that I recall, and I didn't pay attention to the regular fringe in the large. The Rhyders in the colorblock, blue, and red nubuck all had feathers. Oh, and the Tatum totes. I don't recall them on any other bags, but to be honest, these were the bags I was considering, so I paid more attention to them than the others. It also may be that this is one of the "special flagship" stores that were offering them on the "additional pieces" that qualifed, but if that's the case, they should remove the fobs from the bags that aren't supposed to normally come with it and quietly give them to customers who purchase those bags. Still doesn't take care of the stock photo issue, but it would help with the other part. I walked away thinking if I chose the red nubuck, which I almost did, I would order it and get the fob, kwim?? False advertising because there's a good chance I wouldn't!

Yeah, the problem started when they marketed the bags with the fob, and now some do and some don't come with it. I can sort of see where their ads might be misleading based on prototypes (although it's still annoying since the Anna Sui bags were as advertised), and really they could have put a line about "fob separately" or something in the caption, but the stock photos sure as heck should be right by now!

No I did not ask for gift wrapping. In my reveal thread I had a few photos of the packaging if you didn't already see them.

Sorry, no, I didn't notice or at least associate the thread with you and your package, or I just thought maybe the bag had been removed from a gift box and was just sitting there (I looked quickly at a lot of threads over the last week, and apparently I wasn't smart enough to see if you posted a reveal thread when I asked this question either. :p). Mine came with the standard packaging too that looks just like that, but instead of just the bag in the box, it had the small gift box with the bag in it and then all of that in the box. The gift box was a little small IMO, so I won't get it that way next time for sure, but my SA always thinks that adds another layer of protection. If they wouldn't squash the bag in a tiny gift box, that might be the case, as my outer shipping box was dented and slightly torn on one side from UPS abuse. Overall ok, but not extremely impressed with the shipping like that either, as I've had bad Nordstrom experiences too, but at least this box was taped very well at the appropriate place. Raining heavily here early on too, and all was well.

Anyway, thanks for responding. My guess is some bags were intended to have the fob, but they just didn't change the stock photos. I also guess the store I went to was one of those "special" flagship stores that had the fobs on the nubucks and colorblock Rhyders. :shrugs: I'm still thinking of buying one this weekend and just dealing with the size factor, so I'll probably buy it in person so that I know I'm getting everything.

I talked to my SA at the flagship/collection store Wednesday and asked her about the $50 feather charms. She said they had had them and gave them out at that special evening event debuting the Vevers collection. She had called to invite me to that, but I didn't go.

They have quite a bit of jewelry with the feather theme, a couple of the leather necklaces, some necklaces with metal feathers, rings, earrings and bracelets. The feather cuff tempted me, but I'll wait on that one.

BTW, I was one of the lucky ones and was able to order both feather fobs from JAX. The one with the clip came in the long brown box, but the $50 fob came folded in half wrapped in tissue. Fortunately no damage done, but poor shipping on Coach's part.

Was this SCP where you saw all the jewelry? I want to see the feather cuff in person! :p

Ok, jumping in here: Here is my tally:

Large saddle suede Dakota ordered from FP store comes with feather
Large leather black Dakota ordered from FP store does not come with feather
Large violet leather Dakota ordered from FP store does not come with feather.

$60 feather fob ordered before official launch was shipped to me. Doesn't appear to come with any bag and is some sort of gift with purchase for Asia and maybe US flagships.

I got price adjustments from Coach because of Macys sale going on FIRST week of vevers launch and got all bags adjusted to 25% off.

So now I have both fobs but that is because the leather feather fob comes with the large suede Dakota. The fob you see on my purple Dakota is the one I got from my suede Dakota, I swapped it out because i will use the leather violet Dakota more and I will put it back when I use the Suede Dakota.

Whew....what confusion lol :D
