Anyone own fine jewelry pieces from LV?

I do not own any LV fine jewelry but I do not doubt the craftsmanship of LV fine jewelry. Even though they are not a jewelry house, I'm sure their pieces are of great quality. Of the reviews I see online, I have not seen any big issues or consistent complaints.

Having said that, however, when I compare the prices of LV fine jewelry to a fine jewelry house, like Bvlgari or Cartier, I personally think they are overpricing their items. :-s
I understand that luxury jewelry houses already overprice their jewelry but LV feels like it goes over that .

It's a bit hard to compare since they are different designs and (I don't know the gold difference by weight) but there are similar pieces.
For example, the LV empreinte ring in YG is $2000 USD while the Cartier Love ring in YG is $1820 USD. Not that much more I guess but there's also tax too.
The LV volt YG wedding band, is $1800 while the Cartier Love YG wedding band is $1170. And both of those are thinner/smaller bands, but now there's a more significant price difference.

Considering those prices, I personally would rather buy from a jewelry house than a fashion house for fine jewelry.

For any fine jewelry (unless it's high jewelry or part of a special collection) I would NOT consider how much I want an item based resale value. Nothing used will hold up as well as we like. If there are any scratches or sign of wear, you can bet a classic piece will drop 10-15%. Especially with many of the popular pieces being on the resale market, the higher supply is not going to help with the resale value. It's probably better to buy something you know you'll love for a lifetime (or at least a very long time).

Regarding diamonds, especially tiny diamonds, like pave diamonds, which do not have any GIA certification, I would not think that LV diamonds are that much better than your local jewelry store or any fashion house/luxury jewelry house. Of course, the quality will not be bad, they are cut well are sparkle beautifully but it's not that significantly better, especially with the naked eye, IMO. Take a look at David Yurman pave diamonds or small set diamonds, also beautiful, but much more affordable. There's not much difference to me when I look at them.
Also, keep in mind, pave diamond pieces for luxury brands, like Cartier, depreciate in value greatly on the resale market. https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/sell-or-keep-cartier-pave-love-ring.1047018/
When you get to bigger diamonds, of course, that's a different story. :P

But, LV definitely has its own iconic style and look. And if that's what speaks to you, then it's worth it to you.

Thank you. Yeah on higher end brands they typically use VVS and above with G as the lowest color with 18k gold compared to Effy or LeVian pieces are in H or I color and I1 and SI clarity with mostly 14k. When I saw the LV pieces, definitely sparklers. Clean and uniform. I just need to get over the sticker price

I considered some fine jewelry pieces but changed my mind after a video from a very popular IG blogger who was a former LV client associate. She described the quality of these pieces and how one of the bracelets broke while showing it to a customer. I'm sure this can happen with most any brand, but it was convincing enough to dissuade me.

Wow that's quite embarassing but good to keep in mind. My hubby actually asked our CA about the quality while we were looking at some pieces. She said well made and demonstrating the structure. You are right it can happen to any brand. If I do decide to get one and if I encounter an issue that I can rely that LV will back their product and provide support.

So I own a couple of LV fine jewelry pieces. I love them, but they are Vivienne pieces and definitely more playful. It’s like what 18yo me would have bought but in 18k  The pieces are super weighty and the chain that came with especially the larger Vivienne is fantastic, it’s also a pin which is awesome because brooches rule lol. I’m actually very torn on which of the traveling Viv pieces to order as I really want one more!

Jewelry is so personal. I have a few Tiffany pieces (been loving the chunkier designs of the past few years), a couple of unique pieces from Bulgari and a boatload of inherited pieces from all over.

IMO you should buy what you love. None of it holds its value except for in the actual weight of the metals or actual stones. I personally find a lot of the staple pieces that Cartier does kind of blah but other people collect love bracelets. I’m of the opinion that it’s worth it if it really makes you happy to wear it.

The Vivienne pieces are so fun!

They really are! I’m currently torn between panda Viv because it’s just adorable and surfer Viv because I’m pretty much half mermaid haha.

I’ve been a poker player pretty much since I’ve been legal so when casino Viv popped up as available not as a special order, I couldn’t resist!

I used to work at LV, and every time a sales associate makes a sale of a fine jewelry the staff would be cheering over it. (basically the sale would be celebrated). When I first joined the company I was confused as of why, but over time I come to understand why. Resale value probably won't be as great as other well known brand because LV is known for their bags instead of jewelry. Hope this gives you something else to think about..

That's what I have noticed too. I'm wondering if I should just go with 2nd hand. However I am cautious of fakes.

For most luxury houses that have fine jewelry, because the price is so marked up compared to the value of the item in gold and/or diamonds/stones, the house gets relatively a lot more profit than other items. The sales associate also gets a more decent commission compared to other things like shoes or bags.
That is why you hear about an emphasis for a good Hermes purchase history is fine jewelry and homeware. The difference of actual cost of the item vs the retail price is significantly greater than other merchandise. Which also means the SA gets a higher commission and probably will prioritize the client more.

This is something we all comes to terms with and your love of the jewelry piece just basically is greater than what you know you're paying for.

I am also very cautious of fakes and unfortunately I have seen a growing number of fake fine jewelry on the resale market. I personally would just save up more to buy in-store than buy resale. Also, when you buy in store, not only will you have a purchase history and an SA who remembers that you bought such a high priced item (if you're interested in buying more from the brand), but also, there are free cleaning services, and free (or maybe not, depending on the issue) repairs that the luxury house can accommodate for.

There's been a lot of super fakes for fine jewelry floating around.. if you want to buy second hand make sure to buy from a reputable source, or at least have means to prove that it is real accurately.. I've seen some fakes online and they are very close to original. Very hard to tell unless you are experienced

Yeah thats what I am thinking. It is not like I can test and verify in person.

I have wanted to really like LV fine jewelry, as I've been looking at it off and on for the past 5 years. So far I've seen only one line that appeals to my aesthetic, the star blossom pave pieces. The look is more ubiquitous, which may not what you want when you are wearing designer fine jewelry, but it is with LV because most people, when they see the LV motifs or logo associate it with canvas. I love the LV monogram canvas for what it is, but I don't necessarily associate monogram canvas with fine jewelry.

I've tried on the bangles and I find the finish and the sizing not be up to the standards of VCA or Cartier. The collections of these two houses have matured enough to have sizes that fit even people with small wrists, which is not available from LV. Also, the underside finishing of their bangles is not as clean, nor is the design as thoughtful from a practical perspective. I distinctly remember trying on the empreinte bangle, and the sharp edges and corners of the LV logo poked and scratched my skin, while on. The actual amount of gold used to construct the bracelet felt lighter than Cartier and VCA, and yet it is priced as high, or higher depending on the Cartier or VCA model to which it is being compared. The sharp angles and pokey corners just tell me they are a level or two below Cartier, VCA or Bulgari, which has angles and orders in their design too, but have experienced enough designers to make their pieces comfortable and functional, as well as beautiful. I also tried on the dentelle one row WG and diamonds bracelet, and again from a design standpoint, this bracelet cannot be made to fit all sizes. There is no place to shorten it by mm's. You remove one clover and you lose 1-2 cms? How do you achieve symmetry again given the pattern of the motifs? Function and design issues. And then nevermind resale value... If I buy a piece, it will be for fun. I won't look at it as a piece I can pass down to the next generation, as I do my VCA and Cartier pieces.
