Anyone Interested In A Moissy (Moissanite) Thread??

I posted my wedding set here before as the tiara band is moissanite. The center stone was a lab sapphire but it wasn’t very good quality and over the past decade of wear it developed visible scratches. Plus my claws needed redoing so thought it was time for a new center stone. Considered another colored stone, because the diamond on the left is M color so knew a colorless moissanite would look too bright against it. But then decided, “F it”, I just want to go moissie!

Omg, it is so sparkly! I’m blind  I realize my set is a bit of a Frankenstein with both diamonds and moissanites of varying colors, but each stone has a story and I love it.

I’m patiently awaiting 2 precision cut moissanites (5 mm round, hearts and arrows). They’re supposed to be very diamond like (less fiery). I don’t know exactly what I’ll commission with them, I’m going to see if I like them first because I love the sparkle of Moissanites.
I might turn them into drops for hoop earrings, that could be fun.
I’ll share when I get them and post a comparison with my RB!

Well, I went ahead and ordered a .6 round brilliant white moissanite from a seller on Etsy. They get really good reviews and specialize just in moissy so I’m hopeful it will look nice. I want to turn it into a stud earring. Will post when it arrives!

I was a little discouraged about moissy after getting my tiara band for my wedding set…they look cloudy compared to the diamonds. But from reading this thread and doing some research, I realize it’s because I didn’t buy from a decent seller. I’m happy with it anyway…they are small stones so it looks fine except super close-up! All the other stones in my wedding set and that I own are vintage or lab, as I prefer not to support mining.

I have pear moissanites in an ear cuff and they are cloudy as well. I think it is because Moissanite is doubly refractive, so the tips of the pears appear cloudy because of the unique faceting. The same thing happens with crushed ice cuts, double refraction makes them look very cloudy.
IMHO Moissanite looks better in round brilliants, OECs and step cuts. I’m thinking of getting a trillion cut too, they might be nice.

I bought a pair of H&A cut moissanites, 5 mm each and a pair of brilliant cut moissanite earrings of the same size (in yellow gold). I think they both look the same!
As always, moissanite is extremely hard to photograph! They look crisp IRL but a bit hazy in pics.
The first pic is of 4 mm white gold studs, loose moissanite in the middle and
5 mm yellow gold moissanite studs. The las pic is of my moissanite solitaire studs 3mm, 4mm and 5mm. They’re all stunning.
I conclusion, I feel H&A and brilliant cut look very similar (similarly gorgeous!).
I hope you like the pictures.

I bought moissanite mini climbers in 9kt yellow gold. I don’t like them too much, the marquise gems sparkle soooo differently from the round brilliant and look a bit cloudy in comparison. What do you think?
BUT! The gold backs with the silicone encasing have been a discovery for me! The earrings simply DO NOT MOVE. The negative is that the earrings may look costume because of them?
Pics attached.

That’s really interesting what you said about moissanite reflecting light different in different cuts….I’d never thought of this before but of course it makes sense! So that’s why the marquise moissies in my anniversary band look so cloudy next to the brilliant cut oval (plus different sizes, makes, etc). Good to know. This is what I love about tPF…learning from others members’ experience and knowledge!

As for your climbers, they look lovely to me but as you’ve said, moissies are very difficult to photograph accurately. I’ve been considering climbers vs studs for my cartilage piercing, and will have to keep this in mind.

I upgraded my wedding set recently and my jewelry finally came in the mail. I was so stoked to wear it over the weekend! My original set has a 2 carat center stone, but I wanted to go bigger with my upgrade so I ended up with a 4 carat. Pictures include 2 photos from my nail appointment/coffee run this morning, and another fireside photo at night. I truly enjoyed watching my moissanite sparkle throughout the day.

I love it! Congrats

I bought a pair of 2 cttw (6.5 mm each) moissanite studs to wear for a specific occasion (tonight). The stones are AMAZING and a bit on the warm side. They’re too big on me (1 cttw is enough for me and my very dangerous city) but I have to say… these are a knockout. I might wear them again when I need bling and don’t want to be overly worried about my jewelry. The martini setting is perfect, too.
I have tried to take good pictures and I have failed LOL, but I have attached a pic with a diamond solitaire ring that I have that is a similar size. They very similar in color!

Finally I’ve got my dream stud! I literally have been searching for years for a moissanite or lab diamond flatback stud. All lab gem jewelry designers just make regular studs with butterfly backs, and all body jewelry makers use either mined diamonds or cubic zirconia.

Now Stuller (a major manufacturer of metal mountings) is making flatback/pressfit earring backs, so it is much easier and economical for a jeweller to custom create these types of studs using the stone and setting of your choice!

This is a 5.5 mm/.6 ct moissanite in a white gold martini setting.
