Lately there have been a lot of threads about upgrades, dream e-rings, "proper" e-rings, etc. Is there anyone out there thrilled with their 1 carat and anyone want to post pics of their 1 carat rings? Mine is 1.21 round and perhaps I'm in the minority here. But I contemplated upgrading and for $10,000 more - the bigger stones really didn't look that much bigger. Maybe it was just the jeweler I went to. So I'm very very content with what I have!

There are a LOT of ~1 CT rings in the engagement ring thread! And mine is far smaller than yours, purchased at a time when dh and I had next to nothing. I will probably get my upgrade on our 15 year anniversary (a little over 2 years from now), and it certainly won't be a whole lot larger than your original! It may not seem like it, but the "average" engagement ring in this country is around 1/3 CT, not the whoppers we admire here!

I LOVE my ring :yahoo:Mine is even smaller than yours...1.07 from Tiffany. I can get an upgrade from Tiffany within 5 years if I spend double of the first ring. It was my choice to spend only 2 months (I know most ppl spend more than 3 months in the states) of my fiancee's salary because I want to save up for the house. I am very happy with it!

Show us your ring!

my original was about a carat and I was satisfied w/ the weight, just outgrew the cut. After we talked about changing it we decided to also "upgrade it."

Not engaged (but hopefully soon!), but I definitely think an engagement ring can be enviable at one carat or under.

I've told my SO that I would like a Tiffany ring, regardless of size. I'm fully aware of the fact that you can get a much bigger stone if you buy a non-branded diamond... But they guarantee ethical sourcing and that is very important to me. So if he gives me a ring that some would consider tiny, that'll be fine with me. All that matters is the guy and that there's no negative baggage attached to the material symbol of our love.

I love seeing all rings though... Big, small, alternative stones. They all have a unique story!

My center stone is .71 ct, the total weight is just over 1 carat. I'm very happy with my ring- it looks great on my hand, it's Tiffany (which wasn't essential but it does make me happy), it's classic, it fits my lifestyle (I take the subway, I don't want anything too flashy), and it fit our budget. Sorry no modeling shots (lost my camera cord) but it's the Tiffany Ribbon Ring, you can see it here....

The prettiest ring I've ever seen is my mother's. A .86 carat round brilliant in a yellow gold Tiffany style setting, with a matching plain gold band. It is just so elegant. After 40 years of marriage, she has only taken it off when she had children and cancer treatments.
This ring was very much in style in 1968 and still looks great today. She would never dream of upgrading, even though she could get whatever she wanted. Honestly, I would never upgrade either.

I do not even have an e-ring but I find 1 carat gorgeous! I had a solitair ring in princess cut that was 1.10 and I loved it! I did do an upgrade (to a 5.30 carat solitair) but that was because I wanted a round cut and a 'warm yellowish' colour.
Here in Europe 1 carat is regarded as precious and big!
