LOL - I have a feeling I know who these women were! Sound like scarfies from the scarf boards - and thank goodness for the "Survivor" like pact - someone found the 3 scarves I was after and they are winging their way out to me in SF as we speak!! :yahoo:Still...I'm hoping to get to a sale myself one day soon!:graucho:

I was there during the private sale and noticed a group of women that had a "Survivor" like pact when it came to finding things for each other and since they were pretty hard core, I dubbed them the "cashmere mafia"...plenty of others at the sale (me included) was coveting their cashmere shawl collection. I think they literally scooped up the initial stack and just threw it in their white bags.

The cashmere shawls are really handy and warm...but it's the price that's a real killer!

Olive, I saw that group and their bags. They were a little bit ahead of me in line, but definitely received instructions as to where to go. Like someone behind me was talking on the phone with insiders(salesforce? security, whoever) and got the overview of what "is" and "is not" on the floor.
All that is fine with me, but I heard that expression before you mentioned it, Olive, so I was wandering if that was a new?/old? "must have" trend.
Quite a different story if they are resellers, then it's just pure business and nothing to get fresh ideas from.
A couple of years ago it was a silk carre craze, ladies were hunting the trendy designs more than now birkins, but practically no one was giving a thought to shawls.
I am not a trends follower and I envy those ladies who carry their carre and shawls in the same place without effort. For me it is always a struggle, my scarves misbehave and refuse to keep a shape I give them. But recently in Vienna I observed that practically EVERY female was wrapped in shawl, or it was tied in a tight knot at the neck. It looked so great, elegant but not pompous, that I decided to give it a try. Maybe cashmere would have more stability than slippery silks.
I am currently reasearching ideas on how to wear my shawl in a less complicated way

Another trend I spotted, probably too late anyway, every other woman had that 'alhambra" necklace by VC&A. Too many for a coincidence.

Also, on the first day (private sale) while we still were waiting outside, the 2 ladies came out with bags, maybe from Mendel sale, but one of them was on such heels that I almost died from envy. I used to live in stilettos, but, unfortunately - no more. I observed her walking in these shoes and thought that I would not be able even to stand in them. Did anyone notice her?

I only bought a pair of black suede w/palladium "Nacelle" shoes. I found the horse coin purse when I went in, walked around with it the whole time, and decided not to get it. I also found a little leather item, I think it was a scarf ring, with a silver buckle, but they wouldn't sell it to me since it didn't have a price on it.

I'll post pictures of the shoes when I have more time (and energy).

I went tonight... got there right around 6 pm and there were maybe 25 people in line. 15 mins after I showed up, there were probably 50 people behind me! For anyone thinking about going, here are the scarves I saw: Albums de Colportage (yellow, orange), Petits Metiers de Paris (blue on blue, pale pink), Soiree de Gala (mint, pale pink, orange), Fleurs de Fuschia (rust, black), Grand Roue (black, white, green, red, lots of colors), Samuel de Champlain, Chevaux de France (lots of CWs), Allures (red/blue, yellow/black), Mineraux, Champignons (these both in brights only), Les Sources de la Vie, Hola Flamenca, Josephine Danse (these 3 in lots of CWs), Noel au 24 Faubourg, Etandards (the one with the naval flags), La Danse du Cosmos (mostly pastel colors), Onde de Chic in lots of colors, Jeux d'Ombre (red, black)... those were the ones they have a lot of that I can remember, so if you want one of those, you're in luck. Leather goods- lots of dog stuff, a couple planet pouches, belts in big big sizes, apple, horse, lemon/grapefruit, banana coin purses, some swiss army knives, some wierd drawstring bags like mini-mini-mini market bags. Perfume- Jardin sur le Nil gift sets, Merveilles cream and powder, lots of Orange Vert stuff and 24 Faubourg stuff. Mousseline: I saw literally 3 in the whole place, don't go just for those. No cashmere. Some cotton scarves, a bunch of the 70cm that has the guy on the rocking horse in pointilism style. Garden Parties: mostly the smaller sizes and the tall ones, mostly red, burgundy, orange. Shoes: decent selection of flats, sandals, heels, a few boots. Seemed like ties were pretty well stocked, as was china. Didn't look at baby stuff or men's. Tons of ladies RTW which is a little too $$ for me even on sale so I didn't look closely. I did not buy anything. The shoes were a little tempting but I have plenty. Liked the garden parties but I wanted one size bigger. None of the scarves "sang" to me so I passed. Hope that helps anyone who's thinking about making the trek.

"If you are a scarf and shawl collector/wearer/purchaser, you will enjoy this. If you are not, skip as it will bore the heck out of you. It is one of my fellow scarfie's recollection of yesterday. Warning there are abbreviations which are strange (i.e. POO) which most likely are design names:
"The scarf counter to me was a letdown. Jan’s recall of patterns is very good. Also several Hola Flamencas, Champignons reissue, and oddly several Grand Fonds II in a colorway that I once had and let go recently. After much consideration, decided against re-acquiring it. There were many colorways of Cheval a Charactere, Onde de Chic and Passage a Tokyo, and Vol Amoureux (the butterfly one). Nothing vintage, although I’m still green with envy that one of our gang found a stunning Art des Steppes detail! That and Jan’s Monnaies were probably the most unusual. The Au Coeur de la Vie was in orange, and I saw two pink ones (one snapped up by part of the posse). The carres were $225.
There were many racks of RTW, and a long table of china and crystal. No child-sized ashtrays, but I DID find a cup and saucer with a spaniel!
Alas no jewelry to be found, but there were shelves upon shelves of Garden Party totes in all colors and sizes.
Tucked in a back corner were plisses, blankets, gloves, baby stuff, mousselines and cashmeres. I think everyone got ahold of some lovely Giverny PM mousses, and the plisses were mostly either hot pink or b/w “H”s. There were some lovely white with black c/h Alliances du Monde, and a Souvenir de Paris, but nothing that jumped out at me. At which point I went on full-on whiny-baby-namby-poopy mode! I wanted cashmeres! I wanted GM mousses! Pout, pout!
But gathering by the shoes with the posse was fun as we looked at each other’s haul and had fun picking through the group’s culls.
Then the miracles started happening! A round of GM cashmeres came out unbeknownst to me (insert wails of grief here), and Menelle was an angel and handed me a perfect pink GFII GM cash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s one of my fave designs and the color is so soft and lovely. Happy dance abounds!!! That’s when the vets coached me that the trick is to hover around the back stock room to grab stuff as it comes out. Beeline! I missed another/the last round of cashmeres but props to the posse for throwing elbows and grabbing a great stash! There were 3 Tohu Bohus – a black, a bright green and a sadly, disastrously pulled orange. Also in the group were a white/brown Vie du Fleuve, black/grey/white Bolduc au Carre, bright pink Libres Comme l’Air, blue and white Capucines, bright pink Pani, orange Vie du Gran Nord, oatmeal Plumes that was alas full of holes, and natural/black Brides de Gala. A thousand thanks to Menelle for the GFII – words cannot express.
PM cash was in short supply as well. Lots of Faubourg details in lovely reds and greens but I decided to hold off for a Hanukkah-themed PM cash, haha.
But the waiting by the stockroom strategy really paid off, because the mousses started flying! In my bag fell a cobalt blue Cheval a Fleuri GM, a violet/grey Bolduc GM, a blue PM POO and a black/yellow/hot pink Ronde de Jockeys. Also spotted were turquoise/white/blue GM Soleil, turquoise PM Cheval a Fleuri, hot pink Bolduc PM, black GM Au Gre de Vent, pastel GM Au Gre de Vent, light blue GM Danse, an acid yellow PM Alternateur, chartreuse stole whose name escapes me but is cursive letters; same design in orangey-pink PM. I spotted a pink/blue GM changeant Fleurs de Fuchsia but it was in a non-posse bag (wah), but two posse members got changeants (a copper Grafisme stole, and a light brown losange with black c/h). Jeanne was great company and had an eagle-eye for spotting folks returning things to the pile (got the blue POO by snatching it from a returner) and seeing the stock room curtain flutter with impending new arrivals.""

Galpal, I'd say yes. Sounds like those ladies really made out! Also sounds like they got all the good stuff. The "chartreuse" stole was still there tonight, I'd say it's more of an acid green, the pattern is L'art d'ecrire. Oh and I also saw Cheval de Caractere carres in lots of colors.

She can probably thank me for that one as I think passed it on to her....glad she bought it

lula888 - Thank you so much for the info on the fragrances :hugs:
OMG, so sorry about rude SA and the scarves! I hope they will be ok?

Sophiekins - I agree the selection of the scarves was so so, I had to look very carefully to find something I liked but at the end I did  I saw those fringed cashmere scarves/wraps, they were gooooorgeous! Would have gotten one too I if wasn't saving for the GM shawl...

ellelee - Another unpleasant person at the register!? I'm glad the manager made the things right!

elle tee - Wow, you KNOW the scarves!!! Thank you! OMG, I just checked some names you mentioned and some were not there in the morning :crybaby: It looks like they brought quite a few new things out at the end of the day... if it wasn't for DH I would have stayed there for the whole day

Have anyone seen any plisse scarves? I kept asking about these too but they said No...

I guess I "should" go back... :faint:
Now the question is: Friday or Saturday...? Early morning or late afternoon? I know it will be a zoo on Saturday... but maybe they'll put out some new things... shawl lol? What do you think? :confused1:

Btw - check your receipts before you leave. They made a mistake with mine (no big deal, just about $60 but it paid for lunch later ;))

Another thing I noticed: it seems like they are reducing prices on some things even more (not scarves etc.). There was a red sale price that was crossed and a lower one was written on the tag (I noticed it on the Baby things; that's what they made a mistake with at the register). I wonder if they'll reduce prices even further for the weekend...???

Working on my pictures to share...

How about other successful shoppers? :graucho:

There were plisses when I was there on Wed. morning. Actually, speaking of trends, the woman next to me in line convinced me that plisses were the latest thing which is why I bought one. I saw plisses with the teddy bears, the flamenco dancers (in white and pink and white and green) and the "H"s (in pink). Sorry, I have no idea what the real names of the scarves are.

I didn't see any plisses. Honestly, if not for the fact that I am recovering from the flu and I have work tomorrow, I would go back first thing in the morning. It seemed like they were not bringing too much stuff out, the only "new" things that popped up while I was there seemed like stuff people carried around for a while and decided against buying. The SAs were bringing scarves out from below but mostly the patterns that were already out there.
