Scarves anyone frame their silk scarves? if so how do you do it?

I had a 27" "vintage style" framed for my office. I chose archival glass and it's been hanging almost two years now and there is light coming in from a window across from it and there has been no fading. The archival glass was very expensive but worth it.

I prefer the look of Graycat's .. with no mat. But the way the design was positioned on this one and with the contrast hem... I really felt it called for a mat. The scarf was hand sewn to the mat.

Here's a picture and a link to the thread:

From what I understand, it's better not to have a direct source of light on the scarves as they will cause them to fade.

Thanks mspiggy,
At H, the have a light source behind their scarves on display. We were thinking of something like an MRI box. I thought I had read somewhere that the scarves were fade-resistant. Not to worry, however, the lightbox isn't going to happen and the spotlights in our hall are not on very often -- just when we want to show of a different design.
Judy, always happy to learn something new!

Very, very true. This is true of scarves, upholstery, photography, and painting. In fact, for most things. We collect fine photography and the room with the more important images and delicate silk upholstery is in permanent shade. Also, we have them framed in special anti-UV glass. There are various quality of anti-UV glass, and the technology has really improved over the past decade. We chose the top end, and it is VERY pricey, but absolutely worth it. We have 2 paintings (acrylic) in lower-end UV glass (still not cheap), and the images have faded a dismaying amount (in a sunny room).

Lovely idea and lovely pictures ladies! I too, would worry about the light hitting bleaching its colours!

I´d love to see your "shaded" room CF;), it sounds wonderful!

I've spend some days in a beautiful beach-hotel in NC. Imagine my surprise while entering: the floors where all decorated with framed H scarfs, shaded of course. Attached 3 of them. Sorry for the poor pics taken with my cell.

(Mods..I did a search and couldn't find this topic but please move if you like.)

I fall in love with a particular pattern and just have to have it but it kills me to keep any scarf in it's box 99.9% of its life. H scarves are works of art and need to be seen! This was a subject of much consideration:thinkin: but after finishing repainting the master bedroom a couple weeks ago :sweatdrop:, the time had come to act!

My funds are limited so 2 options were eliminated right away.

Option 1: Frame a scarf...too $$$ and I can't wear it! No and no!
Option 2: Purchase H scarf display system...so elegant but, again, too $pendy. Heck, for the cost of that system, I could buy another scarf or 2!

After eliminating a couple other options as a bit too amateurish, one involving yardsticks and another with plexiglass, a brilliant friend came up with the idea I just knew could work. It may not be an original solution but it sure works for the budget and fulfills my desire for a scarf gallery.

Am I boring you? I have pictures!

Materials used (everything but paint was purchased at a big box craft store):

1. 36x36 stretched canvas
2. Leftover wall paint
3. 4 or 5 pair strong 'silver' craft magnets
4. SuperGlue (don't be scared!)
5. D-rings, wire, hook for hanging

Oh cool so you use the magnets to hold up the ends so you can rotate/wear the scarves?

Also I just love that last one with the hot air balloon. How pretty!

And because the canvasses were 2 for 1...one for the guest room: 'Pavois'

Hope you enjoy...I'm pretty pleased, if I do say so myself. I'm a girl that loves a project!
