Anyone else feel somewhat embarrassed about LV?

I always think it's funny that people judge you based on your purse purchases, yet it is OK and often encouraged and celebrated to buy or lease a brand new car? The SECOND a brand new car is driven off the lot it's price depreciates in value substantially! Am I the only person that feels that way?!

I'm still in college so I'm really sure that people assume mine is fake or think I have a rich family that buys me them which is completely not the case. I understand exactly what you mean and it is why I really want to buy a damier or epi purse. I already have mono and vernis (that I saved forever for) and I get mean looks all the time. People just need to grow up!

Steps off of soap box :D

Ahh...I feel exactly as you do. I'm also in school and what's even worse is that my graduate school cohort is ALL MALE (except for me) so you can even imagine the comments...I bought a Burberry flip case for my iphone and they were commenting on how it looks like a Star Trek communicator...I don't even know what that is?! lol

Hey now, I will only buy new cars. It is a preference just like luxury purses.;)

I didn't say that there's anything wrong with buying a new car. I think, just like you said, it's a matter of preference. Therefore, whether it's a new car or new purse, it should be judged in the same respect. Trust me, if I could get a brand new car--I would!

I am sorry, but why does anyone care about what others think? As I mentioned before, it seems to me that people buy things to please other people. I don't know, I do me. I live my life for myself. If you want to spend $80,000 on a handbag and live in a crack house that is your prerogative. Blessings.:D

some people will always find sth negative about you to make themselves feel better! so I don't care and go my way and wear/buy what I like!!! furthermore MANY people only seem to have money because they buy expensive car/media/clothes/etc. and make debts for it. but when you look inside their house or whatever you see its only a facade. I saw this several times!

I completely understand, my husband just bought me my first new Louis and I was worried I'd be self conscious carrying it around. We are middle class, 4 kids, mini van, etc.... I wore it to TJ maxx and Costco today and let me tell you it felt GREAT!! I heart my LV :)

I understand what you are saying but you can be "normal" and love designer handbags. If it makes you uncomfortable be selective on the places where you carry your bag. I live in Southern California but when I visit my family in Mississippi there are certain bags I don't bring with me. Some are over the top (LV 40 Speedy with my initials or my Cerf Chanel)...I don't want someone asking me about my bags when I go home. So I bring my Kooba (most are very understated). Just my two cents.

i'm not -- because for me, my bags are a motivation for me to work harder, strive bigger, and do better.

does that mean that i'm always dressed to the nines? absolutely not! heck, most of the time i'm in sweats and tshirts when i'm not at work, because i'm pretty much a single mom with a 2 year old and not much of a social life, being an import to this country. So convenience and comfort is key from me because when i'm juggling groceries and trying to hold on to my kid, i can't be worrying too much about my outfit. i'll use the bag that's most easy to tote around, be it MbyMJ, or LV or Chanel or whatever.

Interesting article.... So does that mean I shouldn't be too worried about the possibility of being laid off in the upcoming reduction in our firm? And just rotate my bags often with the bags that have the most logos? But how come that goes against everything my mind is telling me? I'm confused...

I take pride in carrying them only because I dont come from a rich family who spoils me, I dont have a high paying job. Im a student and work only twice a week. So I wear em proudly knowing that I saved up the money for it and I take very good care of them because they are so expensive.

Its not just about style, its quality as well. Before I bought my first and only designer sunglasses I went through maybe 2 dozen cheap 10-15 dollar sunglasses. I was reckless with those cheaper sunglasses. But now I take care of Dior and havent bought another sunglass since.

So dont be embarrassed, IF ANYTHING, "normal" people tend to take care of their luxury items better.

I have a 1999 Toyota Corolla! My LV is my luxury splurge and it makes me happy. I try not to worry about what other people think. To be honest because of my beat-up car they might think my LV is fake. I constantly get criticism from friends and family that I'm materialistic solely because of my purses. It's MY money, I can spend it on what makes me happy. I'm never ever embarrassed of my LV. I carry it with PRIDE. :D

Hehe the car caught my eye. I drive a 1990 Toyota Corolla and still running like a champ!! I never once thought people might think my LV is fake with me driving such a car. Anyways dont let what people think get you down.
