Anyone else feel somewhat embarrassed about LV?

I don't know if I will carry my LV around certain people or not just because I don't want to hear the nasty comments. I'm not really embarrased, but I know my audience.

When I first started carrying designer bags, I had a Coach I had gotten for my birthday from DH. She told me in front of a room full of people I was spoiled. I lost it and pointed out that I work full time and so does DH so we can buy things (she doesn't work but complains about not having money). She shut up at that point. And I have a "friend" (DH's friend's wife) that will make passive agressive comments, so I might not wear it if I'm not in the mood. Of course, I just might if I'm feeling like they can all bug off. :p

It's a shame we have to feel any kind of regret or embarrasement because other people don't think it's okay. Just because they wouldn't spend their money that way. Well, maybe it is excessive, but we can spend our money how we want. It's like a hobby. Imgaine how much a guy can spend buying an old car and restoring it, yet no one would give a guy crap for doing that. And that's just one example.

I was feeling the same way about wearing my Louis Vuitton to work. Then I thought about it and said what the hell. I finally got my first LV and I'm going to wear that bad boy. I love my mono speedy 30! Hate on haters is what I say.

I wouldn't say it's embarrassment but I do know what you're talking about. I've always wanted a Speedy Mono but everyone said the print was outdated and it was everywhere (even though 90% of it is fake...). So I was scared to get it, and when I did, I was almost scared to carry it around because of what people might say or think of it. But then I decided, no, I earn my money fair and square, I don't spend money on useless things like alcohol or going out. I save my money and think about purchases. I love luxury, I love looking good, so what?

If they have mean things to say, it'll be out of jealousy - just to make themselves feel better about it. If they really wouldn't like it, they wouldn't say it.

My family thankfully didn't really ask questions, when I definitely expected my mom to do so because she's the one always complaining about bills and saving money.

the only time i feel embarrased about carrying my bags is when i have bills due and can't afford the payments.

of course, at the time when i purchased my bags, we had plenty of money to spend, so i wasn't embarrassed at all to be seen with them.

but when my hubby got sick and we had gotten a new car and a new place to live, and a new baby, and our savings ran out due to emergencies, and i had to cut my hours at work temporarily, we had very little money...i definitely was not going shopping and spending money, so when i carried my expensive bags, i felt like people THOUGHT i had more money than i did...which made me feel embarrassed about carrying my bags.

but girl, if you have money and can afford your bag and life, then carry your bags!

people will think you have money-and guess what-you do!so who cares if they think you are better off than you are-you clearly aren't having a financial hardship, so rock your bag!

p.s....when i purchased louis vuitton at first, i was self conscious about bringing it around coworkers-even though i was happy i could afford the brand, i knew many of my coworkers could not afford to do the same.

when i got promoted, even though the raise was not at all a huge difference between my old pay, people were less judgemental of me stepping my "game" up due to my new position....so i did...

and it felt really nice to go into work dressed in better quality items.when you become management, people expect you to have status luxury items...in fact, they judge you worse if you DON'T have these symbols of your wealth.

like if you carry coach as a manager, people think 'wow, i want to be a manager!i want a nice coach bag!', and if you carry louis vuitton, they think 'wow, she must be even more successful than that other manager'......

it is always a good sign when the boss has better stuff than the employees....it is rarely a good sign when the employees have better stuff than the boss!

as if your ability to manage your finances to get nice things is directly related to your ability to manage a business to make a profit.

I feel the same way about carrying LV to work, not embarrassed, just feel uncomfortable among my colleagues, esp if your boss is a lady boss who does not carry designer handbags. Now that I'm self employed, I don't have this feeling anymore. In fact, I carry different bags to work, not to show off to my staff, but to fully utilized my handbags collection, so that they don't sit in the closet collecting dust. I believe we should feel proud to carry any designer handbags that we love, as we work hard to get it.

I have yet to bring a LV t work. And I've had them for months now! I actually take everything out of my LV the night before work days, and use a coach. So sad! I really want to bring it too as this is getting to be a pain!

Just do it, bring your LV to work...Maybe you'll feel self conscious for a couple of days, after that it'll be just another bag and everyone will be used to it.

When I first started carrying my Etoile bowler I was really surprised at how much attention I would get from it. I had been carrying my Speedy 30 black multi around for ages and I never got a second look but with my Etoile it seems that everyone notices it. Many people think that it's fake because it is a quilted LV. Oh well. It just takes some time to get used to the attention a LV brings.

I'm definitely not embarrassed, however, it irks me when I get comments that I am spoiled, a "brand snob", or that's just how it is when "you come from a family with money". I don't appreciate it when people are judgemental due to the bag I carry. It could also just be the culture here though...

So these things sometimes deter me from using my LVs at work. And I guess if I'm going to "shady" areas I use my Longchamp bags, as to not attract any unwanted attention.

But most days I don't care and just let such comments slide. I love using my LVs too much and it would be such a waste to make them sit in my closet. I have worked hard enough for my money.
