Any one else not wear their engagement ring??

Why don't you get it insured? Then you are covered just in case (God forbid) it gets lost. Knowing it will be replaced may make you feel more comfortable wearing it.

Wow, that fetus time line is pretty graphic.

I agree with whoever mentioned getting the prongs checked regularly. I'm assuming the heirloom ruby ring was fairly old. Someone probably didn't take it to a jeweler to make sure everything was sound, and that's why it was at a higher risk of being damaged.

Pehaps you can have a replica of your ring made with sims. Then you would be able to wear your ring and have the real thing in a safe. If your DF is Ok with you not wearing it don't worry about what anyone else has to say. If I may suggest, perhaps you can wear it and not take it off under any circumstance. It would be a shame not to enjoy such an important piece and live life because of fear of what could happen. Oh And I definitely agree that you should have your prongs checked every six months at least and that the safest place for the ring is on your finger.

When my DH gave me my engagement ring I was worried about losing it too, especially since I'm a great one for losing jewelry. Until then I had lost every piece of decent jewelry anyone had ever given me. I was actually afraid to leave the house with it on my finger. But it's been 20 years and I never take my engagement ring off and I have yet to lose it.

After he gave me the ring I did have it sized down a half-size so it would be a bit tighter on my finger.

I have the prongs checked regularly. I did bash one of the prongs while gardening or something, but the diamond didn't fall out and the jewelry store repaired it for free.

I bought a guard ring to wear on top of it to protect it a bit.

As others have said the safest place for your engagement ring is on your finger. My sister had hers stolen after she left it on her dresser and her house was burgled.

I love my ring and after all these years every time I look at it I get a thrill that my DH loved me enough to buy it for me. That alone is worth risking losing it.

Great thread. I've always worn my ering, but lately I've been considering leaving it safe in my jewelry draw. I love the look of both my wedding band and ering. I feel the carefree look of my wedding band is the way to go now.

I don't think it's a big deal to switch it up. I wear my e-ring with band most of the time, but sometimes I just wear the band, or wear a 3 stone ring with my band. When I travel I have taken a pink sapphire/diamond ring instead and sterling silver cz imitations to the beach. I am not afraid of losing my ring from day to day activity since I feel it's very secure, I am actually more afraid of unwanted attention from it...

^ This has nothing to do with the thread and personally, I found your comment with the "grossed-out" smiley offensive. I'm not sure why you find fetal development so repugnant--I supposed the stork dropped you off fully formed? Whatever.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, Faith. I hope it goes smoothly and you're able to enjoy it every step of the way

Anyways, to get back on topic, I would do whatever makes you feel most comfortable. But don't let fear be the only thing that keeps you from enjoying it, either.

Thank you Sirene!
I found that comment off topic and of poor taste as well- you're very sweet to come to my defense!:tender:

Well, considering I never had an engagement ring, the answer is no :p

My DH proposed to me at a friend's wedding, (caught up in the moment I guess:crybaby:), so needless to say it was not planned, hence no ring. I told him not to worry about it, that I would just pick out the band that would go on my finger during the ceremony and that was all I would need.

I wound up with a beautiful custom platinum band that I wear every day. It is practical for my lifestyle. I have no reason to take it off unless I am cleaning it or applying hand cream.

As of this weekend, it has been 6 wonderful years together :hugs::drinkup:
