Typically prices start increasing at the end of January and continue into February. They increase by department as soon as the new prices are inputted into the system. I usually estimate anywhere from 7-10% as it is can be based on department/item category or on an individual item. In some cases prices actually decrease!

I want to get a pair of jumping boots. Wondering if I should buy them pre price increase as there is an earlier post indicating that shoe prices may actually go down though another post indicated prices may go up. Anyone hear anything on boots?

I wonder if your credit card has "price protection" feature. if it does, then you can buy it now and if the price drops, just file a claim with the cc company to get the difference back.

What a great point! Though do you need to show that the item (in the same size and color) is available to purchase at the time of the price drop? or am I thinking of nordstrom's price matching policy?

JY - if you have a good enough relationship with your SA, why don't you ask her to give you the price difference if you purchase the boots before any price drop, provided it is within a specified time period. Just like the Gap and other retailers do ;-)

Also good point. Never even occurred to me. Also, they might be more willing to give you the price difference in the form of a store credit.

Because, in theory, you could return the item for store credit within 30 days, and re-buy at the lower price using your store credit (with some to spare). But this method may be uncomfortable or awkward.

Personally, I'd just buy it now if you want it and don't want to take the wait-and-see risk. I think it is safe to assume prices will go up in the USA. Think I read price increases in every category in the USA?

Thanks guys. I'm going to text my SA tomorrow. She has to order them from another store so I will ask her if she thinks there will be a price increase or decrease for boots and if I should buy them now or wait. Chances are that she will say to buy them now.

The other option is to order them online and if the price decreases, return them and buy from the store but my guess is that if the price decreases, it probably won't be by much.

My SA also said that if something does very well over the year then it will be a larger increase on it. So 140 scarves did fantastic so would prob have a good increase on those...
