Very interesting Mimi, thanks for the chart.

I own this scarf, Legende Moghole. It has a price tag of $375 from Bergdorf Goodman. It came in the Christmas sleeve in the picture. Does anyone know what year that sleeve was issued?
Legende Moghole was issued in 2008 and Early America was re-issued in 2009/2010.
The Christmas box usually corresponds to a current item, so a I would venture to guess that
the box was from 09/10.
Both beautiful!

A currency devalued by half is a massive loss in wealth, regardless of where people fall on the spectrum.
What is happening today in Russia is eerily similar to the oil glut and currency crunch of the 1980s, which hastened the collapse of the Soviet Union. Yesterday, Citi predicted oil dropping to $20.00, so the financial woes are still in the early stages for Russia and other Oil
States.
Correct!!!

Thanks Monceau. So I guess $375 was the price for a few years. I am a long time scarf buyer and I remember that prices often stayed the same for years at a time.

It was around 2007-2008 when luxury prices began decoupling from inflation. Chanel even had a few years with increases every 8-10 months. It's markers like these that makes one think "bubble."
Monceau - I totally agree with you. The same thing has happened in certain real estate markets and the high end contemporary art market, and the word "frothy" has also been used to describe these two markets. This latest round of price increases has certainly given me real pause, especially when it comes to the big ticket items like handbags. At some point, I say "enough is enough".

+1, so totally agree with you, MrsJDS! What irritates me the most is that certain regions of the world have been singled out and now have wider margins and price points comparatively. Don't like that at all and it's an adjustment. Not sure how, when or where my next H B/K purchase will take place and that is unusual for me. Usually, I have a master plan!
