Thank you, tegan. That's not too bad. Now I am really interested to know how much is the increase for Canada, since our dollar just dipped big time.

The drop in the Canadian dollar should not matter if you are buying in CAD and the prices would have been set awhile ago. The increase will range similar to how it has in other jurisdictions (to my understanding).

I'm surprised how many people say they'll go to Europe to purchase a B/K/etc. because of the price discrepancy. Does everyone have a SA there? Lol. We all know it's hard to get a coveted bag without being a local or regular...how many people are willing to pay thousands to go to Europe and run the risk of not being offered anything? With H, it's always been a take it or leave it type of mentality. After the price increase, I bet people will still take whatever they're offered in fears of not being offered anything else in the near future.

I don't worry much about the price increase- I'll still buy if I'm offered something I love. I do hope my Paris SA pulls through for me and gets me something nice this summer, and I almost secretly hope my US SA's don't get those K's I've been waiting on, but I'll play it all by ear. I do know I don't really want a Toolbox anymore if it's going to cost nearly as much as a K or B though! And I sure hope housewares don't increase too much since I still need to buy more dishes!
I totally agree with you.

I don't know how people are saving money by purchasing a Birkin or Kelly in Europe and then returning to the U.S. If they're declaring it (which is what they should be doing), the outrageous Customs fees don't make sense to buy there.
I was upset over the Jan./Feb 2014 price increases, but I've come to the realization that I'm not going to stress out over something I have no control over, especially when it involves spending money on items that are not necessities. If I see a scarf that I really love then I'll buy it. I plan to purchase my first Birkin on my birthday in 2017 and my first Kelly one or two years later. And I'll probably purchase a Birkin or Kelly once every three years after that.

This article was in the NYTimes a couple of weeks ago about the absence of Russians at the Paris fashion shows. I assume their situation will affect handbag sales too.

Guess the US will have to pick up the slack.

There is a huge inventory of 90 silks on US H.com. To me it seems to indicate that 90silks are not selling well. Wonder if that is true.
I think most of the luxury houses have overshot the runway. They all ramped up production a few years ago with the expectation that China and Russia would be huge growth markets. Now, that growth is in decline and they are hoping the US will cover the loss. Perhaps they can show revenue gains on rhe books by increases in US prices and the strong dollar, but I doubt that will run for more than a year. If other markets continue to weaken, H and the others will have to slow down production. Otherwise, they will end up with a lot of unsold inventory. As you point out, this is already happening in some areas.

Another scenario would be to add more items at a lower price point. Personally, I would hate to see them follow this model because quality issues would creep up the ladder.

I agree re the items at lower price point. I think it would weaken the brand, and as you say, introduce quality issues.

On the plus side, perhaps more B's and K's will find their way to the US.

Does anyone have firm information if the silks are going up in the US on Feb.10th? I had previously read that was the date and they are expected to go up by 10%. Does anyone know if that is true? Going to be for all sizes?

At the airport now and just confirmed with the SA that the range for silkies is 7 to 10 percent. Please shop today if you can :-)
