Anti-Coach snobs...ugh

So I was poking around the internet looking at random purse blogs and forums ( I know, I'm such a purse dork) and cannot believe how many women with LV bags, Hermes, etc actually look down on women who carry Coach bags. It's a little upsetting honestly to have a brand you love be reduced down to something carried by "ratchets and wannabes". Really? If you love a brand or even just one bag, what should it matter if its $10, $100, $1000 or whatever? I have a friend who could easily trade her bag collection ( she has at least one of each Premier brand bag) for a house and doesn't act like that. Has anyone else ever encountered that kind of snobbish bigotry?

Yes. As someone who owns both premier bags and Coach, when I talk to my friends who love premier designer bags or when I go to the premier forums, there is a definite snobbery towards Coach.

I buy Coach because for the price point, the value is good. (usually. there are exceptions of course) I can buy a lot of styles and colors for the same price of the only one or two premier bags a year I purchase.

I don't sweat what others say about Coach because I don't get my self esteem from a brand.

Lol whatever. My lifestyle does not fit premier designer at all, actually i would feel downright silly carrying such a bag.
Most people who have to belittle others to feel better about themselves aren't all that anyway.

I have found that it seems to be LV buyers / collectors that are the worse offenders (in my reading experience).....and I can't understand what they have to be snobs of. They're paying very big bucks for coated canvas...........which is plastic covered fabric. :yucky:

IDK. They must think since they spend more on their bags than we do on Coach that they're better than we are.

Oh, I don't get my esteem from my bags. I love them for what they are, everyone else be damned. I do, however, become bothered by any form of snobbery or belittling of others for any reason. This was just another example to me of how poorly we, as humans, treat one another over non-consequential things. Why must others be so cruel to each other for no reason?

I know what you mean, and I don't get it either. Needless cruelty happens so much over so little. Mean people suck, I guess. As long as someone loves a bag, and is happy with it, why look down on them?! Maybe they feel the need to justify how much they spend? I've not encountered this personally, not with purses anyway (needless cruelty knows no boundaries, however), but then, I also don't know anyone else who has the bag fixation that I do IRL. That's why I come here! :D

I didn't think you get your self esteem from your bags. :smile1: I think those that put down others for their bag choices get some self esteem from their bags.

Some premier brands have purses that are truly exquisite works of art. Other premier brands have overpriced poorly made garbage. Beauty and prestige are all relative. I have heard people in the Coach store putting down people who buy non brand name bags, etc....

I totally agree.

I have three LV and a boatload of Coach and MK and I still say my Coach and MKs are my faves. I think they are prettier, just as well made and no argument WAAAAAY better bang for the buck.

When I was younger, I was totally like this *hangs head in shame* but as I got older and more mature, my priorities in life changed. For example, I noticed that Coach's vintage leathers are of fabulous quality, and now I am on a constant hunt for vintage Coach items.

I personally dislike all fabric uncoated bags, having owned several Gucci's only to have the fabric rip and fray. And with LV, I cannot justify any more coated canvas because it's not even leather!!! Way over priced. When I was younger, it was definitely more of a "brand" thing for me, but now, it is all about quality and classic pieces. To me, Coach leathers can stand the test of time, and is of GREAT VALUE and classic style :)

So now I am back into Coach in the biggest way possible. I think people just need to be more open minded and look into the quality of Coach bags because they are impeccable, as seen in the many ebay listings that are selling bags from the 90s. Great, great quality, cannot rave enough :)

I just purchased my 1st Coach handbag from FOS & I am very excited to get it. It will actually be my least expensive bag in my collection of handbags & I can honestly say I am as excited with this purchase as I have been with some of my luxury one's. I look at quality not brand. I buy what I like, and can care less of what others think! As to Louis Vuitton's "Coated Canvas" they are very durable, classic & timeless! It may not be your cup of tea, but to those of us who love it & want to spend our money on it, they are pretty amazing, I love my LV's, but when I carry them I do not think I'm better than the next! At the end of the day, they are materialistic items & don't define a person, just like money doesn't define a person, their hearts do. If a person is snobbish, or look down upon a person simply by the bag she's carrying... that person is the one to feel sorry for!

I think there's snobbery everywhere. I have several friends who accuse me of being an elitist because I own Coach bags. They would rather spend in the $20-$60 range, carry a bag for a month then replace it. Sorry, I just don't do disposable accessories. I'd rather save till I can afford a quality piece than buy throw-aways. I don't have drawers full of costume jewelry, I have a modest collection of fine pieces.

We LOVE craft beer. I'd drink tap water before I'd drink a CoorsBudMiller. When I buy a case of beer, it's not unusual for me to spend $70+. Our mass-produced beer drinking friends love to call us snobs for it. My husband and I have Harley's. We take TONS of crap from the Yamaha/Honda/other import riders that think we're snobs because of the cost of our bikes. We're dual income professionals. We're happily child free. I'm done defending our perceived extravagances. I just smile and try to recognize that it's probably just jealousy on their part.

Back to the purse part, I try not to judge the LV set and I try not to judge the K-mart crowd. Different strokes for different folks, right?
