It's almost sad that ladies would carry Rotini instead of LV because they want the look but can't afford the price of a LV. So if we look at it this way, I guess I can understand.

I saw these in a shop in Vegas ... I did a double take... They had a Neverfull, and alma, a Manhatten.... I can't remember which LV I was carrying but the ladies did take notice of it when I asked WTH were these things lol... I said they look just like LV bags and they looked at me like they had no idea what I meant lol

They have designs that look identical to lv bags, tivoli, manhattan... I wonder too about what the legality of their bags, but they are sold at regular stores so they are not illegal.

are you sure rioni isn't illegal? Designers have sued companies for copying their designs? I'm not arguing either way, when I saw the pics I just had a "hmmm...." moment,

It is my understanding that you can't copywrite a design, but only a trademark such as a logo. So as long as these bags dont copy the Vuitton name or logo they are perfectly legal.

Have you guys checked out the thread in the handbags and purses forum? I love how people on that thread said the people who do not like the Rioni bags- that there was a lot of "snobby and ignorant comments".... I find it ignorant to classify everyone who doesn't like the brand or that people dislike the brand because they copy LV shapes ignorant! SMH.

What I never understood is if you don't think a particular bag is worth its price, or jewelry... then DONT buy it... no one is forcing you. To buy a fake or a badly inspired bag... I just don't get it. No one is "entitled" to a certain bag. You work out your own budgeting and you get what you like. Ugh, that thread left a bad taste in my mouth.

I'm sure some buy Rioni because they can't afford LV.

But to assume that's always the cause is overlooking several other motivations:

  • People who don't know anything about LV, but find a reasonably priced bag that has very good quality
  • People (like me) who want high quailty, and although we know about LV, don't particularly like the monogram look or would never pay LV prices. Rioni is a monogram canvas that's discreet and not well known. I don't buy Rioni to have an LV lookalike, in fact I go out of my way to avoid the lookalike designs.
  • People who want a high quality covered canvas bag, possibly to use in the rain, but don't want something as "loud" as the LV monogram. These are the people who might buy Damier Ebene or Rioni Signature Black.

If someone can get a bag that is stylish plus great workmanship for a fraction of the cost, then why not? I think some people need to ask themselves if it's the *name* they're more interested in than the product itself. After reading some of the comments, it almost makes me ashamed to own an LV....

I agree. A bag doesn't have to cost thousands to be well made or to look good. LV bags probably cost to make only a small fraction of what they charge for them. They are really charging people for the name.

In my opinion it's legitimate to want the name and the recognition. But it's also legitimate to not want it, for whatever reason.
