Apparently she lives in the same building as my best friends' friend and she had a run in with her. They were hanging out and she kept knocking on the door, then when my friend opened she just goes "I just wanted to tell you .. your face is really ugly". So my friend said "go f*ck yourself" and slammed the door.

Later that night they went to speak to the doorman about the run in and he said that she just recently moved into the building and kept apologizing for her claiming "she's not well."

The mental disorder that Amanda, Lindsay, Britney, etc... have is called drug addiction and complications from that. Too many people that are drug addicted get on more drugs to treat all these so called other disorders and end up looking vacant like Britney. Mental disorders do exist, but its too convenient these days to call addiction all the other things and keep yourself medicated.

I think that Lindsay is an addict for sure, and it doesnt surprise me bcause her mom was too busy partying rather than parenting.

But in terms of Amanda .. it's just strange. Maybe she couldn't deal with the fact that she was no longer in the spotlight?

I'm not necessarily buying the substance abuse angle unless you include alcohol and prescribed drugs.

I do believe it takes a bit of a personality disorder to go into acting or the music business to begin with, even if you don't go nuts. Some people handle high pressure careers well, even with public exposure. Some don't and retire or just disappear from public view. Some move to behind the scenes work. Others burn out.

I also believe the media and tabloids play a huge role in the burnouts and meltdowns. A personality does something a bit strange or unexpected and the tabloids pile on.

I've researched these celebs a bit and don't think the media plays such a big part in it. A lot of the stars that were groomed and manufactured since childhood end up like this, with multiple personality-like issues, which can happen if a person has been sexually abused as a child. Take in that many if not most of these Disney/Nick stars come from abusive/alcoholic/substance abusing families that wouldn't think twice to let Hollywood execs (who singlehandedly decide who becomes famous) handle their kids at a price, or even are abusing themselves... The media takes photos and prints.. They don't get firsthand opportunities to really screw someone up like a "handler" would. I mean, look at Britney. Came from a poor, broken family, basically sold to Hollywood. Groomed to be a star. After her breakdown, she was forced to be under her alcoholic father's control when she stated that all she wanted to do was stop working. Now she looks absolutely miserable but for whatever reason, is forced to continue working under a conservatorship when she could easily retire.

This kind of stuff makes more sense to me than having your photo taken or doing drugs. Plus, no one really paid attention to Amanda before so there was little media pressure in her case. Party drugs don't make you display these behaviors. Either way... I do not think it's just a coincidence that most childhood stars are messed up.

Drug and alcohol use can cause or exacerbate a wide variety of psychiatric syndromes, from schizophrenia to the anxiety disorders. They then use the drugs and alcohol to self medicate and it becomes a vicious cycle. Plus drug and alcohol use is so easy and common in the "Hollywood scene" that it is almost inevitable the teens get heavily into it.

I disagree that drugs directly cause schizophrenia or MPD, although drug binges are known to trigger schizophrenic episodes in those who already had it by genetics or developed it thru their environment.

In reality it's still far more accepted to say your behavior is caused by an addiction than to say you have a mental disorder.

It's also very common for those who have a mental disorder to self medicate with drugs or alcohol.

I feel so sorry for this girl, she is clearly in trouble...I do wonder why her family is still in LA, if this was my daughter I would have been on a flight to NYC a looooong time ago.
