Am I nuts?Do you save your bags because you're afraid to carry them everyday?

Oh my! :o

I rotate my bags, but I don't carry my nicer expensive bags if I'm traveling or going somewhere that's not appropriate for it. I would never carry my designer bags to work (I work at a hospital). And I also have a MBMJ bag for everyday wear that's less expensive. But I would never buy a designer bag if I wasn't going to wear it. If I'm too scared, I just wouldn't buy it.

I wasn't that way until recently. Now I have a nice collection of very clean and beautiful vintage dooney and coach purses and I am afraid to use them. I don't want anything to happen to them but I want to show them off! I figure I'll rotate them, a week at a time probably. But I agree with using your stuff because you may not be around tomorrow.

My main problem was with them looking "too new" so I was a little more self conscious about taking them out. Sometimes I just took them out to look at but that was it.

What I've learned to do and this takes a lot of willpower, fellow tPFers -- I break in new stiff handbags by hand. What I mean is, I squeeze and stretch handles by hand gently and manipulate the leather until it is much softer. It is so much more comfortable to be able to wear a bag that isn't jutting out from your body like a toaster due to its newness.

I do it for most of my bags, except the ones that don't need it, or need to be super structured of course. Of course you can just start to wear it out to break it in naturally but if you're like me not even taking it out, then that is a good place to begin.

Also, I don't wear my metallic bags often but my fashion rule is, whenever I'm wearing my denim jacket, I carry the metallic bag. These coordinate so well together! :)

i think i do this with a lot of things. I think sometimes that I am more of a 'collector' of items i love, moreso than a user of those items.

I use cheap, $30 bags a lot of the time, but then I have $2000 bags in my closet untouched. I love the nice bags, but want them perfect.

I do this with jewelry too. As well, I started collecting dolls and I don't take them out of the box. I love looking at them, but I want them perfect.

I want to change this, sell off what I won't ever use and just keep a few bags that I rotate. I like having the stuff but I feel I'm wasting my money by just collecting things.

Maybe there is a thread like this somewhere, I'm sorry if this is a duplicate- but lately I find myself NOT carrying my AW Roccos or my Bal Work or Twiggy because I think they are too good for every day. I buy them, I love them, I won't carry them? Am I nuts? I'm just afraid they will get worn out looking and I won't be able to replace them. I have 4 Roccos and 3 Bals! What is wrong with me? I'm carrying a MBMJ bag I just bought to use "every day". It is a nice bag, about 400$, (but a bit too small for my liking), but I feel guilty that I have these fabulous uber-cashy bags in my closet..am I alone in this craziness?

I used to be like this when I was still buying and obessing over bags over two years ago. I would have at least half of my collection still unused or barely used and just sitting in my closet for me to admire in the safety of my bedroom. These days, I have a new mentality and use almost everything that I buy and have bought as soon as I can. There are still a few used/unused bags in my closet but not nearly as many as before, but I do have a lot of bags- like a couple dozen or so. Currently, I am focused on using my most expensive bags that are sturdy and the cheap ones that take the most space. I am looking far ahead and thinking how I'm going to have to move in the next couple years and would need to make good use of my purses as much as I can so that I'll have a bit fewer to carry, lol. I usually carry two at a time since I live in a metro area, so that helps.

I use to be just like this and at times still am. But, life is way to short to have stuff just sitting in closets. Now, I rotate them. Some weeks, I change my bag every other day and some weeks, I carry the same one for awhile. It all really depends on my mood and of course the weather. I really do not like to use my nice bags in the rain. This week I have changed my bag twice.

I'm really glad to hear all this! I was discussing this issue with my BFF and she said she thinks I suffer from " school clothes syndrome."That's when we are taught that as soon as you get home from school, change into your play clothes, the worn out too small stuff from last year. We always saved our school clothes for school and church.

You're not alone. I'm right there with you! I'm not sure why I am afraid to use them but I have a closet of LV just sitting there. Before TPF, I'd carry any bag worry free. Now, I'm aware of colour transfer and uneven vachetta patina, etc. and I am worried to ruin a bag b/c once it's ruined, there's no going back.

I have to remind myself that they are to be enjoyed!

Ya, I'm the one that has the designer bags in the closet and uses a Aldo all the time....:shame: not just my handbags but it spills into all other areas. It just seems to me that when I really really like something I seem to ruin it. I do use the goodies when I'm dressing up, just not everyday.

Funny this worry about vachetta patina....In France it isn't a problem at all.
Nobody would try to take it off!
