I've been to both places and there's some amazing scenery up there. I was even further north in Arjeplog (where BMW and Mercedes are testing their cars) and the view we've got from our hotel was really breathtaking. Especially in the evening with all the lights. I've met my first Swedish reindeer there slowly strolling along the street. But seriously you feel absolutely alone there. It feels like at the end of the world. Not a good feeling if you get lost in the woods or something.

Well, Östersund itself is a city. I needed 30 minutes to walk and find an ATM. Not a good idea before dinner when you're already starving. Åre and Arjeplog are really just ski resorts where you're driving for hours through nature and suddenly there's a village and you wonder where did that come from. But North Finland is even 'worse' in that regard. Hours and hours of nature and you wonder when you'll fall off the earth. But they got some great hotels up there.

It's an oldie from a fan who met him at least twice while he was filming Straw Dogs. We've seen these before but they're nice pics and it's a cute story. Here are the originals:

From September 3, 2009:

“I was driving home from the barn where I ride horses and went by a restaurant that is close to my house. When famous people come to town they usually eat there a lot. I saw him there on his birthday but did not want to bother him by asking for a picture. So I was going past the restaurant and saw a man leaning against a car and it looked like Alexander so I decided to turn around to see. I pulled into the parking lot and parked next to him. He was with about 3 other people and they had a flat tire. I was nervous about asking for a picture and about 10 mins later a truck comes to help them with their flat. I finally got up the nerve to get out of the car and go up to him. I went up and said, “Are you Alexander?” and he laughed and said, “Yes.” And then I said, “Can I please have a picture with you?” and he said, “Oh, yes, sure.” The guy that was fixing the tire offered to take the picture and he did. Then after he took the picture Alex asked, “Oh, do you ride?” (bc I had riding clothes on) and I said yes. And then I thanked him and he said, “No problem. My pleasure.” And then I got back in my car and freaked out, haha! But he was really nice! And soooo cute!!”

Yeah I've thought that before too. It's almost impossible for us to be truly alone and for Alex, for the time being, it just can't be done At least he didn't appear to be being hassled. I wonder if his Mum still tells him, 'it's ok, I know exactly where you are' ?
