^^I tend to agree! I think Europeans in general drink a lot (at least thats the impression I have gotten!) so maybe thats part of it. I don't think he has a problem, I think he drinks like most young people do when they go to parties or to events. He is a celebrity so that is a little more obvious than if he were just you or I.

Agree. Honestly, he could be cited for a lot worse. Part of this I think is due to the fact that he lived in LA for 5 or 6 years before getting recognition, which helped. And I have to say this, before I sign off for the day, I find it odd that other sites tweet "He has been in Hawaii since 8/31" but there is no corroboration or photos? With Rihanna on set, there have been daily pap postings, just think it's odd. Not that I don't believe that's possible, given the film is obviously in production, but you'd think he'd draw more attention than this.

This was an interesting article that I found that was written about how concerned social scientists etc in Sweden were about the new rules forcing the liberation of alcohol because of Sweden's entrance into the EU - it was in 2001. It talks about the history of alcohol consumption in Sweden and the way the Swedish people view alcohol vrs. the way that southern Europeans view alcohol. When I read it I really heard Alex's quotes in it.

http://janda.org/b20/News articles/alcohol_in_sweden.htm

Also someone said that Alex referred to his tendency to not remember anything when he gets drunk in the past. The actual quote is:

Skarsgard told UK magazine Elle: “I have a tendency to drink like a Viking.”

The 34-year-old Swedish actor, who is rumored to be dating actress Kate Bosworth, added: “The good thing about my drunkenness is I don’t remember it. I’ve woken up in a few weird places when I was young, like in the woods.”

I read that as his tendency to blacking out is in the present - he just hasn't woken up in the woods for a while.

I personally think he is letting the interviewer know that he has no recollection of what happend in the Rhy video so don't even think about asking him about that.

In sum, I believe that Alex doesn't think that he has a problem with alcohol and he very well may not have a problem with alcohol. He clearly can stay away from the stuff when he is working. He is a binge drinker which according to the article is very typical of his culture. Fortunately, Alex seems to get very silly and not at all violent when he is drunk. He is a happy drunk which is good as he doesn't seem to be a happy man to me.

I agree with the others who say that KB didn't make him happy and I don't think that Alex made her happy. For that reason alone I hope that they have broken up.

I agree with the others who have suggested that Alex would do better picking as a partner someone from Sweden who knows the language and culture or at least someone who knows the language and has lived in Sweden and has a good handle on the culture. A German girl or a girl from another Nordic country would probably also have a similiar culture - even a Canadian girl would probably be a better fit in Sweden (though a Canadian girl would probably get herself in trouble in Sweden because we are just not as polite and humble as the average Swede LOL).

I am glad that KB is actually working - maybe she will actually do something with her career. Good luck to her.

Can't wait to see some pics of Alex on set.

^Yes, I'm not convinced he's in Hawaii yet. It seems to me there would be evidence...pap shots at LAX, photos of him on set in Hawaii. I don't know where that info came from but I need more evidence than someone saying he's there.

The Gen Kill party pics do show Alex in full party mode, but I keep in mind that according to James Ransone as well as Alex, he only went out twice in 7 months, even though all his castmates were out almost every night, partying. The rumour that first went around was that Alex was stuck up and didn't mingle with the others. Ransone said Alex simply was either working, and he was in more scenes than anyone else, because his character interacted with every other group, or he was at the hotel working with his dialect coach.

Being able to focus like this when everyone around you is letting loose doesn't suggest to me Alex has a drinking problem, even if he does let loose when he decides to party, which I think he probably does--Ransone did say the two times Alex went out, he was party animal. It sounds like his way of drinking is pretty common in Sweden. If the drinking starts to crash his relationships or his career, he's got a problem, but I haven't seen anything in his public life that suggest he's anywhere near Kiefer Sutherland, Alec Baldwin or Jonathan Rhys Meyer territory, all of whose drinking has resulted in public incidents. Alex did put his days of blacking out and waking up in the woods in the past tense, not the present. :p
Just bc something is common, it doesn't mean it's right thing to do IMO. I'm not saying that Alex is alcoholic and he can get wasted in private as much as he wants but when he is out he should get grip of himself. If I remember correctly, Ransone also said that Alex gets slightly aggressive when he is drinking so I'm just hoping, for Alex's sake, we don't get to see another Coachella bc incidents like that can be blown out of proportion by media outlets.

I completely agree. I hope we never see him in a situation like Coachella again.

I didn't take Alex's quote that way, to me it seems that he's saying he woke up in a few weird places when he was young, not that he still does, just not the woods. :smile1: He still drinks, no doubt about that part. But I don't think he was warning the interviewer off discussing the video. He was responding to a direct question from the interviewer:

Elle: Do you drink like European or do you drink like a Hollywood person?

Alex: I have a tendency to drink like a Viking. In England or Sweden, people go out to enjoy themselves, not to network. The good thing about my drunkenness is I don't remember it. I've woken up in a few weird places. Like in the woods.

Elle: That's kind of True Blood.

Alex: That's how we roll in Sweden.

The gossip places that covered this story cherry picked the quotes to make it seem like Alex was getting all confessional about excessive drinking. I think the real interview shows he was responding in a lighthearted manner to a lighthearted question.

Yeah, I remember Ransone saying that on one of the two occasion that Alex went out with them, he got completely wasted and tried to fight the entire town. So yeah, I think it depends on the circumstances with him. He's a happy drunk until someone does something he doesn't like and then he looses it.

As far as his drinking goes, I do think that he binge drinks considering he's had, according to him, more than one alcohol related blackout, which is very bad IMO. But then again, his tendency to drink excessively has been at the back of my mind for a while now. I don't think he's an alcoholic, but I do think he probably drinks too much when he's out partying. You very rarely see him without a beer in his hand when he's not working, which I noticed months ago, and it made me take pause.

Rum rum
knocks you on your bum
shoulda gone home, broke into my neighbours instead
he woke me the next morning. I was asleep in his bed

that was during years of higher education
now, after much introspection
I completely understand
that alcohol is not my best plan
so instead of a screw driver
I'm the designated driver

which is good
because I think my friend is passed out on my car's hood

***************
honestly though. At a certain point in your life you've got to decide about what's working and what doesn't. Intoxication never works. Even when you think it is. And if sknews said he's in Hawaii I'd believe it.

Part in bold just shows that Alex has to work on his interview skills. I'm sure he meant that to be funny but he missed it.

@elis Thanks for the article :) What they say South vs. North in terms of drinking is true. Perhaps that's the reason why I'm being picky about this.

When I followed the selling of Linus, thinking that they handeled it really bad, I wondered what Alex was thinking. I mean, I was upset, so he had to be!

shoulders and rattle "we take them next time"

Now I know why he wore that Cleveland Browns shirt....we are the Hammerby of America!!!! Good Luck with your team Alex:)

When the team is in your heart, it is... People tell me all teh time that it would be a lot funnier to change team, and root for someone, that's actually doing good, but what kind of supporter would that make me??!

I dont think hammarby is an underdog type of club, just one that in recent years deteriorated spectacularly!

I agree with you on that! Thay have had som great players over the years, and they won the Swedish cup 2001. But they have had a lot of problems with other things, that have affected the whole club. A LOT of over payed, not so good players (like one of theit goalies, who have one of the highest pay in the team, but it's sad to watch him, since he lets more goals in, then he catches!).
They have had a lot of problems with their board too. That was one of the reasons that the Linus affair got so messy, and the reason why their CEO quit after that affair, after just five months on her job.And that's a shame, because she was really good, and has gotten Hammaby away from the immediate threat of bankruptcy.
I agree with Alex, that if the board was exchanged, the club would do so much better!

I was trying to find the quote from the guy who wrote Gen Kill and haven't yet but came across this and its really funny so I thought I would post it.

I love James Ransone! Especially in GK; he's genious!!

The Gen Kill party pics do show Alex in full party mode, but I keep in mind that according to James Ransone as well as Alex, he only went out twice in 7 months, even though all his castmates were out almost every night, partying. Kit, agree. I think he is concentrated - the Gen Kill shoot was a lot of work for him, so when he actually went out, he let loose. We would love to apply the "blackout" thinking to KB, but short of his behavior at Coachella and WOW, I don't know if it fits. I don't think he has a lot of times where he's not working and among real friends where he can let his proverbial hair down to really be himself and some or many of these times seem a bit overindulged. Hence he gets wrecked and we see the results. Not that surprising, but it isn't everyday. He's definitely not rehab candidacy.

I don't think that Alex has a drinking problem. Not that kind that makes him an alcoholic at least. I just think it's a matter of culture differences again. With that not said that this kind of drinking is good for anyone, but no drinking is, if you should be harsh.
As the article sais, this is pretty much the way most people drink here in Sweden. As long it doesn't get to the point that you get wasted like this every week, it's not concidered not normal.
I don't think that Alex parties very often. Honestly, how many drunk shots has there been of him, the last years? He's never seen out in LA, going to parties, not connected to his work. I don't think he has the time to do it wile he's working, and when he has free time it gets very concentrated.
Drinking together is a way of socializing here in Sweden, so when he meets with his old friends when he's home to Sweden, that's what they'll suggest to do.
Festivals in Sweden are also known for a lot of drinking. I can't think of one festival here, where most people actually doesn't get really drunk. Well, I can think of one, but that's a hippie festival, known for an other kind of intoxication... (In the town where I live, they have a folk music festical, and a jazz festival, both mostly visited by middle aged people, and they often get worse then the ones directed to younger people, so I don't think age makes any difference for drinking habits.)
In the town I grew up we have a big festival, like the WoW, in the summer, and I know a lot of people who actually buyes a three day ticket for nearly 1000 SEK, and then spend all the time in the beer tents... I think that could explain the constant beer in his hand on the festivals he's been to.
I think we have to remember that the photos we get of him is a very small part of his life, and to indicate that someone has a drinking problem is quite a big thing, and something I think one should be very careful with (not directed to anyone here, just my general thought, so take no offence!).

So, this became quite a novel, but I just wanted to let you see it from my point of view, why I don't find his drinking habits that bad...
I'm not saying it's good either; it's just the way it is. I tend to do the same thing (not the blacking out, but drinking a lot the few times I drink)... Just saw my facebook post from last nights crayfish party, and I can say that much that I shouldn't be let near the keyboard when drunk, and someone should get hold of my cell phone, so I can't drunk text either... Not many words spelled right... But we had a lot of fun!:smile1:

And regarding the article posted that are talking about lowering the taxes on alcohol; we are facing an election here in Sweden this month, so they feed us with election promises and programms now, and both sides are going to raise the taxes on both alcohol and tobaco!

I read somewhere that a director (it must have been Johan Kling) said that he wanted to work with Alex, because he was so serious about his job. The first time he met Alex, he was sober, rehearsing his lines for a movie, while everyone else was partying around him, and that he got so impressed by that... So at least it isn't affecting his work! :smile1:

Exactly. You never hear about him showing up late, or hungover on sets, and in HW that stuff gets out quick. He knows when it's time to be serious and when he can have his playtime. As long as he's not out driving intoxicated or hurting people, then I don't think it's really that big a deal that he gets drunk every once in a while. He's a big boy, I'm sure he'll realize when or if it becomes a problem.
