Happy Wednesday, fellow Islanders! :beach:

During my twenty year career at our local college I used to change bags pretty much on a daily basis. :speedy:

Not surprisingly, that changed once I retired. :wlae:

These days I’m more inclined to wear a bag several days in a row (if not longer) dependent on either the weather, special occasion, or my level of Sloth.

More often than not, Sloth wins out! :giggle:

Happy Friday, fellow Islanders!

A winter storm with 60-70 mph winds took down trees and power lines throughout our area Wednesday night. :panic:

So my DH and I, along with more than a thousand others, went without electricity until it was finally restored yesterday evening.

And while those 18 hours without power are nothing I care to repeat any time soon, it was nice to know that throughout our lives my DH and I had acquired the necessary coping skills to (caution: bad pun ahead. :police:) “weather” the storm.

1. As schoolchildren during the height of the Cold War we were taught in case of nuclear attack your best course of action was to cover your head and hide under your desk.

Frankly even to a six year old this seemed like a dumb idea. Which is probably why the paranoia of the fifties led to..

2. The Counter Culture of the sixties and seventies.

On the outskirts of the extremes of the social revolution, my DH (then my boyfriend) and I were inspired by the Mother Earth News. :peace:

We too would live in the navel of nowhere (which wasn’t hard as that pretty much describes our home County) and live a simple life.

3. Growing old gratefully.

And you don’t get anymore grateful than during a power outage. Call me a wimp but I do enjoy turning on a faucet and having hot water, switching on a light or being able to flush a toilet without having to trek in water from the well. :biguns:

4. Accentuating the positive…

Things to do doing a power outage. Eating copious amounts of ice cream rather than let it melt….
Playing Scrabble with my DH despite his “creative” spelling. :noggin:

Getting rid of leftovers and blaming the wood burning stove for less than optimal results.

Lots of French people living in the North of the country went through this kind of episode last month.
And it happened 5 or 6 times, Fim. No electricity, no wi fi and worse… flooded houses…:panic:
Some of them had bought new appliances after the first flood and realized they should have waited before spending so much money because the storms had not said their last word.😥😥
Climate is definitely changing and they learnt their lesson the hard way.

I truly feel for those people, Mariapia. :console:

Living as we do in the vicinity of what amounts to an inland sea, Lake Ontario is perhaps the most quixotic of the Great Lakes. Its pleasures are only equal to its curse as we who live nearby are all too familiar.

Good morning, fellow Islanders! :beach:

It’s “Seldom used” Saturday! :sneaky:

A day when I just sit back and appreciate those bags in my collection that I seldom use but will always love.

First up: My elephant gray Dooney Ariel.

IMG_4697.jpeg

The most “Kelly-esque” bag I own, its elephant gray’s subtle undertones of pink and lavender made it the perfect choice to wear as the mother of the bride at our daughter’s wedding. :hbeat:

That memory alone is enough to make me smile every time I take this bag out of its dustbag and consider wearing it. :ty:

Next up: my reinvented midnight blue Elliott Lucca Satchel. :speedy:

IMG_5088.jpeg

Originally designed to be worn crossbody, its shoulder strap attached unanchored inside the bag, which (when worn as intended) gave an otherwise stylish bag an odd misshapened appearance that I couldn’t abide. :nono:

But though I was fully committed to wearing the bag as a handheld satchel, I was also completely enamored of its strap’s most distinctive feature….

And ended up with this.

A happy reminder that just as there are two sides to every story, it’s equally true of bags. :ghi5:

And lastly, fittingly final:

My Patricia Nash midnight summer rose Ferrara.

While common decency behooves us never to speak ill of the dead..

There are those egregious people I’ve had the misfortune of knowing and subsequently avoiding whenever possible. :blah:

Unfortunately attendance at their funerals is often unavoidable. :pout:

And when I can’t come up with a compelling reason not to attend, I carry my summer midnight rose Ferrara. :speedy:

A bag that elicits far more favorable comments from the similarly dragooned mourners present than does the “dearly” departed.

Happy Monday, fellow Islanders!

I was asked this past weekend if I thought that iPhones and smart watches would ever replace the need for a purse?

“Never.” I’d replied. “The digital world has its uses, but it can’t replace reaching into a bag for a wad of tissue or stash of breath mints.” :speedy:

Happy Monday, Tomsmom!

My internet died when I was formulating my earlier post which I’ve since edited.
