Hello! Would love your advice and opinions, please.

I just got my first H offer for my first ever H bag: K28 Sellier Rouge H Epsom GHW. This is perfect for me in so many ways - colour, hardware and size.

*But* I've heard so many different opinions on Epsom (scratches, how well it refurbs and stuff) especially when reading threads on this forum. When I had the wishlist appointment I definitely preferred the feel of the other leathers to Epsom, but the SA said that removing it from the list would be risky as Epsom is most readily available leather.

Is it highly unlikely I'd get a Sellier offer in anything other than Epsom? Do the pros of Epsom outweigh the cons?

Apologies in advance if this thread would be better off elsewhere.

Epsom gets a bad rap around here. I’d guesstimate around 90% of the non-exotic common stock sellier Kelly’s are made in Epsom so removing it will surely decrease your offers. And the other leather choices all have their pros and cons as well Most are a smooth leather finish which gives a bit of a different look and almost all of them are push offer only, meaning unpredictable for stock availability and typically more appreciated, and thus offered, to longer term clients. It’s completely personal preference but an Epsom sellier K is beautiful and classic, imo.

Thank you for the reality check!

Is Kelly sellier on your wishlist? Unless you can put in a special order, Epsom is probably the only choice. Other than Epsom, box, tadelakt and Barenia are also available via push offers. IMO Epsom Sellier is the most durable leather type among these options.

This has been discussed numerous times on the forum, here are the links for your sunday readings.

Thanks! Yes, it's on my wishlist. It sounds like I'm being unrealistic wishing for a heritage/smooth leather offer from the store, given my new status. I know it's silly but I'm kinda worried that I'll regret not getting it *or* that I'll regret getting it because it wasn't 100% perfect for me
Decisions, decisions...

Wife’s k28 sellier is Togo but it’s special order. Epsom is really the only non-VIP option.

Epsom cannot be re-embossed but does that really matter? On sellier, you have much more structure and a resin coating on the sides and corners. Retourne is going to eventually slouch and the corners will get wear from putting the bag on the floor among other triggers. With sellier, it stays stiff and the feet of the bag are the only things that touch. If you get wear and tear, the bag can still be repaired and retouched by Hermes, you just won’t have the couple lines of pebble that other grained bags have.

if it’s a dream bag for you, I’d recommend that you get it. And even though I’m personally not a fan of epsom, there are tons of people that are. Personal preference is just that, personal.

That all being said, to the last part of your note, only get it if you’ll LOVE it. The re-sale market isn’t what it was and it would be way too expensive of a bag for you to regret it.

With regards to your question if the pros outweigh the cons, in a Kelly sellier I would say it does. Epsom does get a bad reputation here in the forum and understandably so but I am personally ok with it in smaller bags and in a sellier. At one point I picked a Kelly sellier in Epsom over a tadelakt offer because of durability. Granted I have a box on my wishlist but I find that Epsom is really pretty good for everyday use and even if I get the box sellier, I don’t think I’d use it as often as I use my Epsom selliers.

+1 to replies above. It sounds like a beautiful bag, matching the majority of your desired specs — congratulations on receiving the offer.
Would you want to wear this K as an everyday bag? On the flip side, I requested a K28 sellier in a smooth heritage leather and was offered one in Tadelakt. I am very careful to avoid scratches, so I don’t end up using it as often as I do my bags in hardier leathers. As a go-to bag, the Epsom K will give you better value per wear.

+1 to what has been said above.
I didn’t want epsom as well but given where I am, there are no SOs and I am nowhere close to being a VIP so I took the epsom. I figured it would get more use since I don’t have to baby the leather as much and since it was my first bag, I just went with it. I did get other k28 offers in retourné but I liked the structure of the sellier and the color was what I wanted.

Definitely do not take it if the leather is not for you in a bag this size; it is not for some of us here on the forum. BUT I think you should try check it out in person and see what you think of it without worrying too much about what we think.

I also feel like that this forum has a higher percentage of non Epsom lovers than general (and I’m saying this as one of them). There are a lot of Epsom fans in the world. It’s a fantastic leather and H wouldn’t be making so many bags in it otherwise (like others said it’s basically *the* regular choice for Sellier Kellys). It is very practical. I wouldn’t worry too much about spa because it will take a lot to destroy it to where you’d worry about that. My personal preference of not loving it is due to its appearance and hand feel, which is just personal taste. I see you have similar feelings but the question is how strong are those feelings? Are they strong enough to make you not like the bag? Go see it and find your answer! I suspect that it really may not be that bad (and in the case it turns out to actually be enough of a reason for you to say no, why not take the chance and ask about an SO? It would be one of the most logical reasons to ask - because you would only love something not offered normally. Does not hurt to try especially if your relationship with your SA is solid!)

I’m someone who loves Epsom for rigid bags... I have it in K Sellier and C24. I’ve had the C for 5 years now, it’s my most used H bag, and I don’t baby it at all, but it still looks like new. I’ve turned down a C in box and a mini K in tadelakt because I’m scared of those leathers. And epsom takes color really well, so I suggest go and take a look before you turn it down. Good luck!

Epsom is leather loved by many people, including the wonderful Jamie Chua and I believe Marianne from 7rp too. You can see the before and after spa of an Epsom b30 from Winnie Y YouTube channel. While I do agree that epsom b might not be my first choice for a Birkin but epsom sellier is a forever classic and I will say wear better than Togo sellier Kelly.
