[Advice Needed] Good bag to bring traveling

Taking a luxury bag on a trip isn't the most practical option, but having luxury bags at all and taking them anywhere isn't the most practical option, so the practical argument doesn't really do it for me. Proenza Schouler's PS1 Tiny has received some votes in similar threads, and I'm planning to take mine on a trip to Italy this summer. It'll make me happier to have something I really like with me, and it's super-lightweight, tough, and under-the-radar, so I know I'll feel comfortable. I'm planning to also take a no-name cross body and a small backpack for bad weather and very active hiking/outdoor days, plus my Gucci 1973 for dressier evenings. I'm not taking my most-prized bags with me because I'd worry too much and feel too conspicuous, but I think there is a middle ground, sufficiently sensible option :).

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I received the Mansur Gavriel yesterday. It is a lovely but basic open tote bag. I am not sure.. I know I would have to take a cross body as well, but need to be able to carry essentials, travel guide, map. I hate taking three bags! I have a small crossbody for evening, but would need a bigger one in the day. Hmmmm???

I'd bring something you don't mind putting above you in the airplane, in case you are in the front row. I saw a lady with a beautiful saffiano Prada tote across the aisle from me. The flight attendant said all bags had to go above in our row. He placed it above for her, and he tried to be careful but it did get a bit smushed as it was the last time to enter that storage compartment overhead. :(

Wow, so bad! I absolutely know how she must have felt in that moment!
I experienced something similar recently, where I had to put my Birkin in the overhead department during a seven hour flight! In addition, the flight attendant was so rude that she even 'forgot' my meals! I was so lucky to have brought my Longchamp xl bag, where I put my B before it went up! Ever since, I got myself a very sturdy carry-on suitcase. Like so, me and my bags are well prepared for my next trips, rude flight attendants who insist, and any overhead department adventures.

I'm going to be going away for a short trip and I'm not sure which purse to bring with me. I need to choose from the following:

  • LV DA Speedy 30
  • Cambridge Satchel 11"
  • Medium Lady Dior, in lambskin
I usually don't carry a lot with me when sightseeing, especially when I wouldn't be bringing along any guidebooks or such. I'm leaning towards the CS but the buckles make the bag a pain to get in and out of. I'm also thinking the Dior may be too delicate and too extravagant (there isn't a Dior boutique near where I'm going) and the Speedy is probably too big.

What do you guys think? And what purses do you guys typically travel with?

I vote for the speedy! I feel that the CS is really difficult to get in and out of, and the Lady Dior is a bit too dressy for sightseeing, although you could bring it to a fancy dinner or cocktail.
I really like the way a speedy looks like, and it has so many advantages: it is durable, lightweight, has a zipper, and is made of canvas, which qualifies as almost worry-free. If you spilled your coffee over the canvas, you would just wipe it off. And you could bring water bottles, city guides, and other essentials (a jacket or shawl, a face mist if the weather at your destination is hot and humid, for instance) as the speedy fits a lot!
