[Advice Needed] Good bag to bring traveling

I am going to Paris in October and plan to bring a sturdy leather crossbody with me from Frank Clegg Leatherworks. Someone spoke about the brand on this website and I ordered a bag and fell in love with it immediately. It's seriously nicer quality than Chanel. It's that good. And it was only $500 so I don't mind abusing it a little bit. It has enough room to keep some things but no so much that it will be a nuisance when sight seeing.

Which one did you get? I love Frank Clegg and have a few of his bags. Have a wonderful time in Paris.

I use a Balenciaga city while traveling. Fits everything, has a zipper, is fairly light because of the thin leather, and can be thrown around without worry about scratches or scuffs. It also looks quite fashionable in photos.

For dinner onwards it's always back to my vintage medium lambskin Chanel double flap.

For luggage it's just a trusty old Samsonite. my hand carry at the airport is a Gucci canvas duffel bag and a large MCM backpack.

(all this changes for travel to the beach or an island but I assume you're going to a city right?)

I'm going to be the outlier. I don't go anywhere that is a crime risk snd I'm not climbing any mountains so I don't see any reason to travel differently than I live.

For business travel, I carry my functional business tote that accommodates my laptop, etc. with a business appropriate handbag that will get me through the number of days I'm traveling.

But you posted about leisure travel. For that, I take whatever bags best accent the pretty outfits I'm taking. I usually include a metallic because they are a fun neutral I can take from day to night. And I have bags for play. My Prada snakeskin and jute tote is designated only for beach vacations because it has a beachy vibe and I don't mind getting it wet. It drips dry and is ready to go. My pearlized grey lamb medium Chanel is a great neutral to add quick weekender trips. For our next vacation in a few weeks, we will be gone 12 days to a tropical location. I will probably take 6 bags with me: 2 cheapy beach bags and 4 designer regular bags. I love handbags. I don't see why I wouldn't take my favorites with me.

The only concession make to safety issues is to take my handbags in my carry on bag. But, other than that I vacation as I live.

I carry a non-leather pacsafe bag, overseas travel.

Domestic, the campomaggi leather messenger--which replaced my cambridge 11" satchel.

Because I found it both too small & annoying.

My trips are not glamorous fashion parades.

I journey as a grubby monkey.

But with quality shoes.

I'd second this suggestion. I normally go with Le Sportsac or a small crossbody bag. I don't bring any designer bags with me. I like to wander around and I want to be safe and have fun. Not worrying about my bag and or myself being distinctive from the local.

I am new to this blog and did not quite know where to post this question.

I too am traveling this summer. Taking my niece to Paris for college graduation gift. I am completely at a loss as to which bag to buy/take??? It is Paris, afterall. I am good with my small crossbody in my suitcase for evening, but for everyday and traveling. I am sort of a bag snob, so want a bag that will look good and work for everyday travel. Suggestions?

If I am in the wrong place, please let me know . Thanks

I'd bring something you don't mind putting above you in the airplane, in case you are in the front row. I saw a lady with a beautiful saffiano Prada tote across the aisle from me. The flight attendant said all bags had to go above in our row. He placed it above for her, and he tried to be careful but it did get a bit smushed as it was the last time to enter that storage compartment overhead. :(

Welcome to the forum! :smile1:
You can always start a new thread if you can't find what you're looking for with the search button.
But, as for your bag dilemma; I'd def go for Longchamp Le Pliage Cuir for Paris. It's light, durable and always in fashion. It's one of the only leather bags I take traveling with me.

With the options you mentioned, I vote for the CS because it seems like the easiest to handle while running about in a new place.

My personal favorite travel bag is my silver givenchy micro nightingale. It's small, but fits a lot when needed and I can remove the straps if I want to use it as a formal bag. Plus the silver goes with all of my outfits.

If I'm going to a theft prone/tourist trap then I will bring my nylon travel bag. I got one from Target in their travel section. The purse is slash proof, tons of pockets, adjustable strap for crossbody or shoulder and has a zipper latch for extra security.

I agree with everything others said about traveling with lowkey/less flashy bags, but I think from your three choices I'd go with the Speedy. I usually love flap bags (PS1, MG Lady, Chloe Faye, etc) but I absolutely cannot handle them on trips. Something about the tedium of traveling and going through lines with tickets and IDs just wears my patience down to zero.

For my weekend trips I usually bring just my Le Pliage since I don't have to worry over it and can set it down on the floor when I'm waiting in lines; on those trips I leave the hotel with usually just my cellphone (the phone case I use have multiple slots I use for IDs/credit card/cash). It took some getting used to not having a bag in my hand but it was freeing after a while. If it's a longer trip that warrants actual luggage I try to fit everything into the suitcases and take a small leather camera bag style crossbody (a la Gucci Soho Disco) with me to carry the essentials.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I am going to check them out.
In the meantime, I ordered the Mansur Graviel tote in the nude color with a raspberry lining from Net-a-Porter. Bergdorf and Barneys are sold out of this bag. I will see how it is when it arrives. So keep your suggestions coming, I may not like what I ordered.
Thanks so much.
