I posted a couple of photos I found of what I believe to be a fake Bal at TJ Maxx in the TJs/Marshalls thread in general shopping. Should I post here instead? Newbie here! Heeeeeeelp.

Unless it has been authenticated and deemed as a counterfeit bag there's no reason to post it as a "fake" until you know for sure as Balenciaga has had many changes throughout the years. I've watched many real bags be marked as fakes and many fake bags be snatched up and paid good money for only to come around for sale again and that buyer didn't heed warning back in the day.

So, post pics to get the authenticity first and then post here if necessary because chances are the bag was at TJMaxx for a reason, but not because it was fake! More likely to a mass production issue and now Corporate Bal didn't want to scrap the entire lot (it's come up a LOT lately) :smile1: Hope that helps!

Good to know- thanks! Mass production issues? Yikes that's no good. Especially when this one was still like $1500.

Although I do agree it's better to sell a bag (even if it's marked as "defect" or something similar) than to trash it- eg a few years back some designer was trashing their wedding dresses and dumping bleach on them rather than donate them to charity, which I found pretty awful.

Attached the photos. If they seem authentic to everyone here, I'll pull em from the TJ's thread. I just thought it seemed to look/feel very fake compared to some other Bal's I've seen there) and own- and if it was indeed fake, if I should bring it up to a manager.

hhawkmothh, you're correct- this *is* a fake; the rivet shot leaves no doubt to that. Perhaps you can print out a pic of what a rivet *should* look like and show it to the manager. (I have no idea what the tag looks like, but I'm guessing since the counterfeiter got the rivet so wrong, the tag will have some obvious discrepancies as well.)
I disagree somewhat with the last poster in the sense that fakes can very easily show up in "well-known" retail stores like TJ Maxx. A clever counterfeiter can do a kind of 'bait-and-switch'- buy the real thing, buy a counterfeit that looks just like it, switch the tags and return the fake to the store. Many salespeople can't differentiate a real bag from a fake; more so with a second-hand retailer like TJ Maxx. I have also never heard of a bunch of Bal's showing up at one time (i.e. a bunch of seconds dumped for discount prices).
So while you can find authentic Bal's at a TJ Maxx, you can just as easily find what you did- a fake worth next to nothing.

Agree with thompk, post on the authenticate this thread and look for advice from the seasoned authenticators before raising any issues.

Suspected superfake. A few subtle things are off... unless an authenticator signed off on it, wouldn't touch it.

Update on this bag: more pics from TRR showed that there actually is a .925 on the tag (which did not show up because of the reflection), and the all caps made in italy on the back side has been shown to be a common '05 anomaly. Cannot say that it is or is not authentic, but the concerns that made it seem like a superfake have been addressed/resolved.
