So, I did sun the bag for a few hours which didn't really do a whole lot so I just went ahead and conditioned my calf bag and it works! :D The smell has lessened quite abit and I'm currently putting it outside/sunning it again now.

But I'll have to see whether its long term or temporary though.

I used Blackrock Leather N Rich :) It had great reviews so I bought one to try for myself and it really works!

I have conditioned my black veg-tan bucket and right after conditioning, there was a slight residue/stickiness but after leaving it to dry overnight, the leather has soaked in the conditioner and it now has this beautiful sheen over the leather, with no stickiness whatsoever. It looks really nice and sleek. Best decision ever. Seriously, condition your veg-tan buckets!!

As for the calf leather, my bucket is quite dark/blu so the conditioner just slightly darkened it. But not very noticable at all. There was this stickiness after conditioning (more so than veg-tan, but I think thats because calf is a more softer leather) and I left it to soak in overnight. In the morning, most of the stickiness was gone but still slightly present, so I have left it outside to air/sun the leather. The smell has indeed reduced, it used to radiate from the bag, literally from across the room but now you can only smell it if your 3 inches away from the bag, which is a vast improvement.

Next, I'll probably try to take care of the remaining scent by using baking powder or tea leaves, which I heard will soak up the smell. Also, newspaper or similar may work as well. Fingers crossed!

Received my cross body in Sand directly from MG this morning. Oh god, I almost passed out from the bleach-y like smell. Ugh. :throwup:

My flamma mini bucket from Madison LA didn't smell this like when I got her. Will try some of the tips in this thread.

Yup. My crossbody in Sand from MG arrived today. Same icky smell as my bucket from Colette. Fortunately airing has helped

When I buy new bags I always smell the leather because I enjoy the leather smell. I received a mini cross body the other day and it smelt like pleather! The really cheap kind too :(
Hope the smell airs out

Hello, I think it smells weird for the calf coated leather.
This week I received 2 bags from NAP.
The Black flamma bucket with vegetable tanned leather has a naturel leather smell whereas the Moss bucket with calf coated leather has a bleachy odor.

yes mine from NAP got the same smell as well.. :(
btw is the moss bucket soft and slouchier? would love to see some pics if u don't mind :) TIA!

Mine is from net a porter and I don't find it as bad as expected from reading about it. Not the same leather smell of the veg tanned buckets but I don't think it smells like bleach or anything.
I had the rosa first which I returned and now have the sand. Now that I have the sand it probably has less of a smell than the rosa did.

Yes, the moss bucket is soft and slouching than the vegetable tanned leather.
My phone is broken so the picture is bad and the color is not as true.

My white pebbled leather mini bucket that just arrived has the smell but i agree with Jaime's comments that it's not as bad as I feared! I'm airing it and putting a bag with some bicarb inside it to hopefully speed the smell fade!
