Yes, theres definitely a smell from the calf bucket I got from LaPrendo. Does anyone know how to get rid of it or have had it fade over a little time?

I can't imagine carrying it around and being in a closed room, it would be nauseating!!

Hopefully it will fade completely soon, I'm currently googling different methods to get rid of the smell. I hope its not 'ingrained' in the leather or anything. I do wonder whether its the dying process or maybe they used inferior calf leather? There wasn't this issue before.

I can't help but think that MG are over-extending themselves and as a result quality might be going down (too soon!! btw), which would be a shame because they're so popular and have alot of promise with the colours, styles and prices (even though its considerably marked up by international stockists).

Mine's on its 6th outing and the smell is becoming less obvious.

I originally put it in my bag closet after the first two outings, and perhaps partly because I have a dehumidifier rod in the closet, when I next opened the door the worst smell wafted out...

Well its good to know that the smell is fading. After abit of research I'll try speeding up the process by sunning the bag, conditioning it, wrapping it in tissue paper and/or putting baking powder inside and around it lol. Hope one of those methods work! I'd just hate to carry it around and unintentionally make people uncomfortable with the smell.

My sand calf crossbody from Bergdorf also has a chemical/toxic smell to it. I was not expecting that. This is my third MG, first was the flamma bucket and second was the camello tote, and both have the yummy leather smell, nothing like this.

I can try to air it out, I suppose, but I am considering returning it to Bergdork

:confused1: It's just so weird that the chemical smell showed up only in this batch, after previous batches that had a nice leather smell. I don't even have the option to return so I'm just going to try and rehab this bag..

Glad to hear I'm not alone in this. I thought that it was just a LaPrendo thing and was gonna email them a complaint. Disappointed that I didn't get to smell the new leather smell when I opened the box this morning. My previous two MGs didn't have the same problem. Has anyone emailed MG yet? My new Ladybag is sitting on the other side of the room and I can still smell it. Eugh..

Can you let us know if any of these strategies work? I might try doing the same....it's been almost 2 weeks now and it still smells though not as bad (I smell it when it's about 5 inches from my nose).

I e-mailed them, and they replied stating this is the nature of the tumble...only it wasn't tumble, it was the calf crossbody which i told them in my e-mail to them. i've responded again, let's see what they say.

they replied back and said it applies to the calf leather as well and she promised it will lesson over time.

i do wonder why my flamma calf bucket didn't have the smell.

i guess i will continue to leave mine in the sun in the meantime!

Be careful leaving it in the sun... You don't want the color to get faded.
