Has anyone used ***************** to get a written authentication for a PayPal or eBay claim? I checked into CarolDiva and MyPoupette, but looks like a lot of people on here didn't have good experiences. I'm thinking about buying my first pre-loved item, and just want to be prepared

If you're just looking to make a purchase soon you can authenticate an eBay auction item on this site for free, it's in the shopping section. Then you'll have peace of mind. And you can also use PP with a CC to purchase to ensure you have protection, if there is a bait and switch. Just be a smart careful buyer, use reputable sellers, authenticate beforehand here.. and you'll be okay! Good luck! (For serious issues/claims down the road if that were to occur, http://www.authenticate4u.com's written authentication evaluations are accepted by Paypal worldwide.) Supposedly. : )

I second the advice I just read, buy on eBay, you have eBay Buyer Protection, pay with Paypal and ONLY with a credit card, you have Paypal Buyer Protection (btw, you can CHOOSE whether to file a claim through eBay or Paypal when you do, both PREFER you use eBay Buyer Protection, but you can go through your Paypal Resolution Center, choose a transaction and directly file a claim there, but you can't file through both for the same transaction.) By using your Credit Card, you have the ultimate backup of being able to do a chargeback with your credit card issuer.

I have read here before of some people being unhappy because they bought LV that was used, got it in, took it to their local LV store and failed to get it authenticated and assumed it was not an original item, THAT IS NOT THE CASE by a long shot. Not even LV store managers are expert in authentication and that is especially true for older LV items. Secondly, it is in the store's financial interest for you NOT to buy used and to spend your money with them directly, thereby them getting the profit margin. I personally would not trust an LV store to authenticate any LV item for me.

Lastly, I have dealt with CarolDiva for years, never had any problem and trust her opinion over good good good, old old friends opinions anytime, anywhere, any place.

Bottom line, if you are not buying it brand new at an LV store, truth is, there is always some doubt, the only thing you can do is minimize it as much as possible.

I have used ***************** before and they saved me. They could not authenticate a Pont-neuf gm that I was interested in on Ebay; the seller was unresponsive to pic request. ***************** said that if I could use the funds I paid for the one they could not authenticate for another authentication. Since then I have become so much more educated and reading the purse forums here is a good start. In the future I will use this site but remember that you need specific pictures and if the seller does not have them or is unresponsive to be wary of the seller.

I am pretty sure that the owner of ***************** is a tPF member, actually. I'm not sure if Paypal accept their statements of authenticity, but you can ask before you hand over any cash!

I haven't used ***************** but I did just purchase a preloved speedy 30 on ebay and I had it authenticated by caroldiva. I didn't have any problem with her at all, I just sent in my payment along with approx 26 pictures and I heard back from her that my bag was real within 48 hours. Good luck with your preloved endeavors! You really can get a great deal if you are careful and look around a bit.

I wouldn't recommend ***************** for Coach. In the recent past, there were Coach bags that were "authenticated" by them and they were so obviously fake that a Coach novice should have recognized them as such.

This was the first response regarding the most recent fake:

This thread was started in mid-March when another "what should have been obvious to an authenticator" fake was listed.

***************** may have some brands and brand specialists for which they know the brands but personally, I wouldn't use them because I'd worry every time I submitted a request whether it would be accurate or not. JMHO.

I would not use them, but that is my opinion. I would use authenticate4u, if I need a service. AF has authenticated fakes and has its own authenticators as recommended sellers. Seems a bit of conflict of interest. But, this is simply my opinion. I would not use mypoupette.

Agree completely.

And the owner of AF was banned here.

Wow, so glad I asked. Okay, so CarolDiva or Authenticate4u. Item should be here Monday or Tuesday, so I'll start in the shopping forum first, and then if I need to, get the letter from either CarolDiva or Authenticate4u. Thank you all for the insight!

Make sure that whoever you authenticate with is an expert for that particular brand. I only use certain authenticators for my bag purchases. I use Bababebi for Hermes, Castira for Gucci, Enticiler for Chanel and a4u for others.

That may be the understatement of the month.

And depending on the "venue", it might also be against the site's rules.

For anyone who's had a Coach authenticated by AF it would be a good idea to play it safe and have the item checked at the Authenticate This Coach thread.
