Yes! I have both! I love both! But:

I personally become more sensitive about the shank of a 6 pronger. I understand how Babestaaa feels about a 6-prong ring. The shank should not be chunky. I need all the prongs to be idential in terms of both shape(not horny, not too round) and size (smallest as possible), perfectly symmetrically positioned from both avobe and side, etc. It is not so easy to find such a 6-pronger. Only limited jewellers have such high-quality product standards IMO.

As for a 4-pronger, I can enjoy the desgin of the prongs! The prongs can be round, squre-shaped, TWO-CLAWS (Contessa's ring!), etc. The design of the prongs can change the look of a ring!!! One of my friends has HW's HW ring. The center stone is around 0.5 carats, but it looks much bigger! The presence of the ring itself is quite impressive, but still classy and modern. Here, I share lanasyogamama's love for squqre-ish-ness of a 4 pronger!

I prefer 6 prongs, but 4 prongs have been starting to grow on me. Both can be done well, IMO, and both can be done poorly, so it depends more on the individual ring than the number of prongs.

I don't have a solitaire. I have a three stone and all three round stones are held in a four prong setting.

I absolutely love my ring, but one thing I've noticed is that dipping it in diamond cleaner doesn't get it as clean and clear as when Tiffany's steam cleans it for me. I think the basket setting gets in the way somehow.

My former district manager got engaged around the same time I did. She wears the classic Tiffany solitaire with six prongs and there's just something about that setting... it really makes the diamond look HUGE. I think sparkle wise, it's a minute difference between a four and six prong setting. I think our rings are equally sparkly.

My setting is lower and while I definitely think my ring looks substantial, the diamonds would probably look bigger in a taller setting. My fiance and I agreed that this is my "everyday-forever" ring (*with the exception being while boxing), so the lower setting really is better for me since it is so easy to wear. It wears as easily as a band. If he were to give me another ring to wear on occasion, I wouldn't be opposed to a higher setting or trying a six prong style.

I prefer 4 prong because I like seeing less metal when viewing my ring from the top. I also like a setting where I can view the side of the diamond without much obstruction, so a 4 prong I think is best for what I like in a ring.

this is a major bump-but I'm curious which setting makes the stone seem bigger? 4 or 6? seems like mixed reviews. I'm talking about for a 2.27 carat VS2 H, GIA XXX stone on a diamond band. It's already waiting in my bf's sock drawer somewhere, it's a 4 prong...but I'm curious how different it would look with a 6 prong! lol thanks!
