Friday afternoon I went to a 100th birthday party.

I wasn’t really in the mood for a party, as my Mum had had another midnight crisis, but I put on my black silk Valentino dress and went.
There was champagne on tap, and I have to admit that I had several glasses to mask my stress.

Now I have a headache (it’s 3am), but everyone enjoyed themselves), the birthday girl also drank at least 3 glasses of champagne , and she has another party on Saturday!

I hope I’m not rushed to my parents today..

We met with our financial advisor and I’m thinking of retiring early. The idea has me completely freaked out as I always assumed I’d have to work another 15 years plus.

So, I’m excited to have the option but am not sure what in the world I’ll “do” with myself. There is only so much leisure travel a person can do. And, I have zero desire to start some other “thing” that would require building and struggle.

Mr. Sparkle feels that given I’ve had health issues I should go for it and just enjoy myself. :-s My thought is those are past history. My health is great now so….?

Anyone else retire early? What are you doing to transition from career to… the abyss.

I guess this will give me more time to play with and shop my closet. LOL!

You should do what makes you happy. Is it possible you're able to take a couple of years trail?

I also think it depends on what job you have. I'm not planning on retiring ever, I love my job and it took me 'forever' to get it.

Sadly, my father didn't get the chance to retire, and my mother just scaled down, she was an expert in her field. Obviously this is always health permitting (as in the case of my mother's last few years).

I also want to say, be careful being careful and people being too careful on your behalf. You need to be able to live YOUR life.

Extremely good advice, @papertiger. I like what I do. I just haven’t enjoyed (understatement) the last few companies I’ve done it for.

To your point of giving it a trial. I am planning to take a year off. In that time, I’ll play and I have considered writing a book. The book would be more of a “cover” for this time off so I remain relevant in my industry - being candid, I have no real desire to write.

If I like the year and can fill up my life in ways that make my heart sing, I’ll likely stay semi-retired. I guess I could always consult or take a fractional role in a company. Or maybe I could transfer my skills to anothet industry. But, I have to admit none of the alternative work options seem appealing. I’m quite burned out professionally.

I dunno. I come from financially humble people who worked HARD to build a very successful business. So, my learned work ethic and thriftiness are at war with the concept of allowing myself to rest. 🫤 And retired sounds “old” and I’m not a senior citizen so I feel like I need a different word. But, really it just made me aware of some internalized ageism that I will firmly eradicate from my psyche.
They all fit your inimitable style
Thanks PT. Funny, I looked at the three bags and saw them as so different but somehow they do all fit my style. 😜
The Horse Clementine in Oat . I will put my taupe bags in tan next week. View attachment 6151404
I really like this bag. It reminds me of Hermes but more fun.

I see three bags that I want. :panic:

  1. A black Chanel that I’ve wanted for a while. I’ll definitely use it but I don’t need it.
  2. A taupe Louis Vuitton tote that I know will be a good purchase because I have it in black which I use and adore.
  3. A red Chanel WOC that would fill a gap I’d identified a while ago. But, I’m moving a bit to bigger bags so I don’t know that I still need something small and red in my collection. And I have my red velvet Jimmy Choo that can serve the same function in cold weather months.
I’m sharing because just talking about them here helps kill a bit of the immediate impulse to buy. The smartest buy would be #2. The one the heart wants is #1.

But, if I just sit still for a moment, maybe I can shop my closet and avoid buying any…? :whut: I’m open to all voices of reason. Lol!

You made me think! The white/cream bags are totally different styles, but they are all feminine, confident, chic and quite classic.

I've noticed that many of us on this thread have a strong and consistent personal style aesthetic whether through the years, existing collection, buying new or preloved.

It has made me think what are my 'constants'? :wondering:

It's a good idea.

I thought I wanted a yellow bag this year (maybe a Ferragamo) but I'm also wondering whether the moment has passed me by.

Think back to when you were a child, what did you want to do?
Were you artistic?
Were you a scholar?
Were you an humanist?
Take it from there.
