2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

My first time posting in this group for a while now! As I work towards a goal of shopping my own closet for the remainder the year, I think thread will be a great inspiration for me! My husband and I are working with our financial advisor to adjust our retirement goals. My budget for designer bags and accessories will come from the sale of current items and a wonderful consignment store that I have worked with for a couple of years now, primarily for clothes and contemporary designers.

With that in mind, my current stats are:

Bags out: 3
SLGs out: 1
Bags in: 2 I have extreme guilt over these, but they were purchased prior to my goal setting!!
Consignment sales: 10 items

Also posting my one and only purple bag. This one isn't going anywhere! ;)

Wow, with that bag you don't need any other purple bag! It is gorgeous!

I've been continuing my reading pace, which is helping to reduce my backlog of unread books.

I only carried 6 bags this month. I haven't felt that motivated to switch out. It's been raining a lot so I'm limited to bags that do well in the rain.

Bucellatti is so romantic and pretty. That ring looks really beautiful and less obvious as the brands favored on PF.
Was it taken over by LVMH too?

I love Bulgari but it is everywhere atm.

Buccellati is actually owned by Richemont!
The same company who owns Cartier, IWC, Montblanc, Piaget, Constantine, VCA, Chloe and Delvaux

Which is why it's readily available on netaporter, which Richemont also owns (along with YOOX and Outnet).

It worries me that they'll spoil the brand and only offer the more commercial pieces - as they do with VCA and Cartier. We'll see.

As long as they keep the spirit of the brand, I am all for it.
It employs the artisans and keeps the brand going.
Where is the jewelry made?

Wow you got 5 out altogether!

The workshops are in Italy. Italy (like luxury beauty, textiles, leather-work etc) is becoming the centre for jewellery. Every time I ask for something to be made at Asprey (UK) leather of jewellery, they have to get it made in Italy. Buccellati has so much of a heritage Italian look about it, unmistakable.

The company headquarters are traditionally in Milan but some of the work gets done in Florence (which is one of the jewellery centres of Italy).

2017 Buccellati was sold to a Chinese investment corps (many basically just asset-strip) but too much got in their way, happily Richemont picked up the company in 2020 and (as you say) can keep the integrity and heritage of great design and workmanship of the brand.

My birthday presents included a ring from a local jeweler from the bf, and an unexpected box set of socks from a friend. I can tell that I am old because I love the ring but am super excited by the socks. :happydance:

I tried to get a replacement bag for my red Longchamp Neo that is showing its age, and very cleverly bought the wrong size. But returning it would be painful, and I kind of like it. We'll see if it stays. I also bought a Neo in the same pattern but purple/brown to replace my current purple Neo. It's in the US so I'll see it later in the month and am hoping it is a) the right size and b) as pretty as it looks in real life.

Carried my green Hobo Lola, sometimes in my red Longchamp Neo, all month. I didn't get out much except to work.

Nothing in or out this month (bags, slg, clothes, books). I have a few bags I'm ready to sell, but have concerns about the state of the online platforms (e.g., TRR, FP, VC) so I'm not willing to ship items off as easily as I have in the past. I'm fortunate to have the room to store them until I have a plan for getting rid of them, and I'm not the type to stress over holding items that I'm not currently using.

I don't track usage stats, but most of the month was spent using an old Hermes Trim 38 and becoming more comfortable using a new-to-me Paris-Bombay tall 37 as my new laptop/work bag. I love how under-the-radar both of these bags are.

What are your concerns?

What are your concerns?
Anecdotes on tpf about lower quotes, shipments gone missing, rescinded offers, lengthy payouts etc. I've also seen some of the brick&mortar stores in my area that I've sold to in the past go out of business during covid (not surprising). I'm probably being overly cautious/sensitive, but it does not seem like a great market for sellers right now, so I'll just sit tight until I feel better about it. Better yet, I'll start using my items again and hopefully decide not to sell after all.
