2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

I love this bag. It's so unique! What's the material of the body? My screen is fuzzy but it appears like velvet with leather trims.
I especially love the sentiment behind it behind passed down the generations. What an absolute treasure!
Thank you! It is a nubbly fabric similar to an upholstery fabric (closeup below). It is soft and pleasant to touch, even after all these years. There are no labels inside stating what it's made of, but the trim is leather. The interior is a combination of leather and a vinyl type material.

Hi all! A week ago I left my beautiful Celine belt bag to be taken care of by Celine, basically aside of having some corner wear and hardware tarnishing after 4 years of year, somehow, I don’t know how, the bag had a sort of a scratch of the front bottom part that was kind of peeling. I wish I’ve taken a photo, but I was so scared about it that I immediately brought to the store asking them to take care of it. So long story short, the bag will be shipped to Tuscany to their leather artisans for repair, and for next month or two, I’ll be missing my most loved travel bag.

Since I’ll be traveling to Amsterdam and Paris soon, I just wanted you to help me pick a bag I’ll be travelling with:

- Chloe C small shoulder bag - can be worn crossbody and on the shoulder, transforms day to night by removing a longer shoulder strap. Fits my essentials. This has been seating for a while in the past few months in my closet, so possibly could be great to take her out for a trip.

- Lanvin hobo bag - this is my most worn bag throughout 2022, it’s smaller than Chloe but fits the same amount of things and has two straps, can be worn crossbody and on the shoulder. It is less “in your face” as it doesn’t have any big logos or hardware, and easily transforms day to night. This one has really been one of my go to bags for short trips and one of the most comfy crossbody bags I have.

Valextra Iside small - this one has never travelled with me, aside a short trip to Venice last year, it can be worn crossbody or on the crook of my arm. It has a similar shape to my Celine Belt bag, but smaller, and fits all my essentials. It’s also not as obvious to be a designer bag, but it’s a bit more dressy and formal than the other two. Perhaps I should check whether it fits my passport, as I need a bag that fits it for travel I know other two have no issues with it.

Obviously security is one of the main points for me, that’s why I’m choosing a bag that has a zipper or some sort of closure.

Also, should I be adding a vintage Chanel classic flap to my collection, wouldn’t it be a bit too repetitive with other black bags with gold hardware?

I am sorry I can't help as I carry quite large bags especially on holiday so my advice would be Fendi (as it would do day to night well & no need for a card holder) + YSL (just for convenience of putting maybe a scarf in there, bottle of water/thermos, shopping etc). Your pictures are making me regret the Belt bag but I need to be strong! This is such a gorgeous shade of red though. I miss when the mini Belt came in a range of colours but excited to see what Phoebe has been cooking for us come fall ! Also love your Fendi small. I have it in navy in the old smooth leather but really really tempted to get it in black too. Oh how I love this brand!
Happy Red Bag (and Shoe) Day! ♥️

Such a lovely collection! I particularly love the peekaboo ISeeU small that you have. Still trying to decide between that version or the classic version now that there are rumours the classic is going out ! Do you use it often? What does it usually fit?
I was fired today.
I feel for you. I was let go of my current side gig as well on Thursday of last week which was a major blow as I haven't been able to continue my main job training due to my health and I am not expected to go back before 2024. I don't know how it will help you in the long run but I trust that it will.
For me, it actually allowed me to take a step back to think strategically. I started sessions with a career coach, I am finally switching gear to the area I definitely wanted to go into all along (but could never resign as the money was fantastic and the team really nice) and I am lucky to be able to take those unemployed months to really be serious about all the things I needed to do for my own development but let fall on the wayside to meet deadlines etc. Sending lots of love your way.

Attached is my contribution to this week which I will carry today. My DeMellier midi Venice in burgundy. Funny story, I got the mini in navy and loved it, my husband & mother told me to get the burgundy just to see as I don't have much coloured bag. I saw it and was meh about it, told my mum she could use it as no one wanted me to return. She started using it and it looked so good and cool that I took it back ! And now anytime I need some colour in the winter, I reach for it.

Thank you! It’s the east-west version so it has extra room and fits all my usual slgs plus both my iPhones easily. I should carry it more. And I hope the classic Peekaboo stays around too! I love both styles!

Then I would wait a bit, save some more and see if you still want it when you can easily fully fund it.
Too late :giggle: I should have an unboxing later this week. Due to my (up until now!) "frugal" nature (that description is from my own mother), and my excellent budgeting software (YNAB fan), I already had the cash. The handbag sinking fund didn't have enough, so I moved some from my 'future months' bucket to top off the purse fund. It's more so the idea of spending this kind of money on a handbag. It's kind of crazy. But I'm going to allow myself a little craziness, on occasion. I told my husband last night, "I'm going to buy a Gucci purse, don't be surprised". Though he also thinks those prices are crazy, he said he trusted me. That he's seen over the years of how I spend money and budget and knows that if I spend it, everything else is covered. And it is.

Definitely not something I want to do often, though! But I do want to do it at least once, so I can experience it too.

Enjoy the whole boutique experience!!!!!

Can’t wait to see it!

Jealous. About Paris, that is…not the giant laundry pile. LOL

We want all the details! Living vicariously, you know…
Haha, not much living vicariously in my case... my travelling is nothing compared to what you tend to see on Insta... very basic hotel, sandwiches in the room instead of going out for dinner...

We only were in Paris for 4 nights and we travelled together with DH´s older son and son´s girl-friend who had never been to Paris before, so it mainly was a group experience with little individual free time. Still Paris is wonderful!
We went to the Salon Retromobile, a bic classic car show, did a little sight seeing, general walking around and enjoying the city and a tiny bit of vintage shopping before the time was already up...
I didn´t get to see any luxury shops except for the Galeries Lafayette where I had a close look at Bulgari. (Honestly I was a little disappointed. I had thought the leather would be nicer.)

On the way home we got into a car accident. DH´s son´s car was wrecked. Fortunately nobody got hurt except for a little whiplash and DH´s son has amazing friends who came to pick us all up and take us home.

Sounds like a relaxing trip! Just the kind I prefer.
Sorry about the accident, and I'm glad everyone was ok!
