2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

[Vintage Leather]

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.



• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.





So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

November 26 - Bags by Jewelers: Bulgari, Cartier, Tiffany Co, Van Cleef & Arpels. Alternatively, the pillboxes, compacts and other lovelies made by jewelers that fit in your bag.

December 3 - independent artisans and custom bags.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) she has no interest in handbags whatsoever. None of these girls carry a purse at this age - they just carry their phones, etc. I don't understand it, I recall always carrying a purse in high school and we didn't even have cell phones back then. I would think having a small bag to hold phone, keys, wallet, lip balm, tampons, would be good and I have bought her a few really cute smaller crossbody bags (contemporary brands like coach, kate spade, tory burch, nothing crazy) but she doesn't use them. I especially worry when she goes to the mall with her friends that she will end up setting her phone, wallet or keys down and leave them somewhere but she refuses to carry. However, she likes those canvas tote bags and when we were in Paris about a month ago, she bought a few all for around $20 so I guess I can't complain LOL My older daughter (turned 24 today) on the other hand suddenly seems to have an interest in designer bags and wants to save up for a YSL or LV bag and has already decided to put dibbs in on certain bags in my collection. I expect the other one will eventually come around!

The Paris trip sounds wonderful! And its very cool your oldest is getting into bags, it will be something fun you can share together. Maybe in time your youngest will grow into them too. Must be a trend, not carrying bags in high school these days? Where do they put their stuff! I hope stuff doesnt get left behind either, as u fear. I couldn’t imagine being w/o a bag, its an appendage

We started carrying bags in middle school lol. I haven’t taught in awhile (we’ve relocated a couple of times with DH’s job and tbh i just never went back), but 12 years ago when i stopped teaching high school most of the girls were using bags. I give bags to my best friends girls every birthday, and i know they carry them, but not sure if they bring them to school. I will have to ask, you’ve made me curious!

I’m close to my niece , who is 20, and very into fashion.
She’s a student, but her only source of designer bags is me, as her mother(my sister) carries a rucksack and doesn’t understand designer bags and thinks I’m wasting my money on both my own and my niece’s bags…

Luckily I don’t care what she thinks!
I’m looking forward to the Christmas holidays and taking my niece out shopping -I get lovely pictures back of her clutching her new bag!

Wonderful u enjoy sharing fashion and bags with your niece, and it sounds like she enjoys it very much too

Its long past the BV week, but i’ve been organizing and taking pix….finally ready to post. Its been a good exercise for me. I’ve sold around 28 BV bags in the past 18-24 months, a lot just in the past 6-8 months. And i thought i had done really well. But after digging all my bags out and looking at the pix, i was pretty surprised to see how many i still have. Old Bottega is my And the collector mentality took over. Its hard to sell b/c most of these bags are not replaceable…..but there are only so many bags that can be carried. I sold the colors/styles that were easiest to let go of. Now i need to do another culling….maybe pull 5 bags to sell as a start. I have a hoarder mentality when it comes to BV tho, and its a big struggle to sell. Do any of you struggle with letting go, and if so do u have any suggestions? I could just keep them all but i am feeling a tad overwhelmed…..

Listing the exotics first. I took pix for my own benefit too so a few might show up twice. BV leathers are amazing, but the exotics for me are too!


This croc Cabat is my unicorn. And the find of a lifetime, thank you TRR for listing this bag as croc embossed and for the same price as a regular leather Cabat

I have a lot of Venetas and Cabats. I’ve sold 8 or 9 Venetas this year and really need to sell a few more. The mini Cabats are favorites, but the mediums are rarely carried.

These are all so amazing!

I love loops too. They are more comfortable for me to carry than baseball hobos. I only have one loop. If I found another one in an amazing color I'd probably get it. It's sad they don't use this leather anymore. Still thinking about a nodini too but I really haven't been looking.

The only thing I can think of is redyeing but it's worth asking at one of those places that is famous for fixing bags.

These are all so amazing!

I love loops too. They are more comfortable for me to carry than baseball hobos. I only have one loop. If I found another one in an amazing color I'd probably get it. It's sad they don't use this leather anymore. Still thinking about a nodini too but I really haven't been looking.

Loops are so soft & comfy yes. I find baseball to be comfy too, i am just not a shoulder bag gal. I prefer hand/arm carry and crossbody. But i have all these amazing shoulder bags , sigh.

Agree its sad they don’t use cervo anymore. And it takes color beautifully. I sold my denim, barolo, and hibiscus. Hibiscus was stunning, if u can find one in this color! I will attach a pic of mine.
Nodinis are the best crossbody….i love the long straps. If u want a great crossbody definitely look! If u want a specific color let me know, i will keep an eye out

The only thing I can think of is redyeing but it's worth asking at one of those places that is famous for fixing bags.

If i didnt have so many bags i would pursue it but its on the back burner. I have 2 bv needing linings replaced, and want to spa 2 of my H bags. So those are priority over this. My worry is, with re-dying, would the yummy cervo no longer be soft and supple?

simply buy bags you will wear everyday. Your collection is gorgeous, sublime. And, as someone
who has benefitted from your recent purge, I am VERY thankful 😘

that I found, unworn, for a fraction of current retail — Hermes makes a simpler leather trench every year, including 2023— from TRR. Hermes men’s CSGM; chanel boucle, glen plaid pants and constelliation denim jeans; Missoni slip on pants; hermes cashmere serge biker jacket; MtM fauve barenia sneakers, by hiro yanagimachi, Leffot trunk show; Birkenstock sneakers

I am still laughing as i write this. Alas i am indeed a BV bag museum you have a way with words!
Even posting this today, i felt it was incomplete b/c i’ve let so many pieces go. So you’ve really nailed it. I enjoyed being a museum but now want to shift to some occasional bags and keeping/adding only bags i can carry on a daily basis, just as you said.
Thank u also for your kind words regarding my collection the acquiring is easy but the letting go is hard. Easier to do when these beautiful bags can be regularly carried and enjoyed like the former Tin Man, who @docride so beautifully reimagined my BBK recently arrived back from a docride spa and the 1996 box leather looks new

I am getting ready to embark on a lifestyle shift that will include a weightloss effort. I would love to be able to acquire stylish pieces like you have, and be able to enjoy clothes as well as bags. I won’t be so focused on bag shopping either, if i can fit into some nice clothes. I look at the ensembles you put together and its very inspiring. I love that you share all these mod shots😘
