2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Is the writing on both sides? I would turn it around if the other side was blank. I'm not a fan of this sort of text on bags (weird because I don't mind hardware or patterned leather). It's a cute tote!

I have had lots of bags where there was just one thing that was off ; usually it's an annoying closure that gets to me.
The other side has more text but a bit smaller and still says Marc Jacobs.

I have this cute Marc jacobs tote. It just doesn’t get worn. I love the size , but just don’t wear it. I wish it did not have writing on the side. Do you have a bag you like except for one thing about it?
I think the style is so cute and I would have bought one if it didn't have the writing.

I probably have many bags that I like except for one thing. The bag I carried today I like except that the handle doesn't fold down when I use the strap. It folds down partway which just looks dumb and gets in the way. sutton crossbody 20220330_124221.jpg I don't know what to do about it except possibly remove the handle altogether.

I have other bags that I like but would like better if they had a usable outside pocket and enough pockets inside. Pouches don't solve this problem because these pockets are for things I want easy access to, like my phone.

This is a cute bag. I understand your dilemma. I like having a grab strap on crossbody bags, but if you don't need it and everything else about the bag works for you, then cut it off.

Oh I missed Michael kors week; I have two MK bags that I don't use so often lately but I like them a lot because they are a bit different. I hope it's ok to still post my bags
The maroon one is genuine snakeskin & very lightweight and easy to carry.
The other is black leather with grey and teal velvet ( it's a bit more greenish irl)

I'm a tiny bit early for October stats, but my stats are no bags or slgs in or out. I haven't bought a bag since June, and I've been thinking how/if I want to continue. I don't have a lot of room left, but there's still all kinds of things I want to try. I've never had a flap bag, the kind that's like a Chanel classic flap, and I'm curious to try a bag in that shape (not a Chanel of course, not monied like that). I was thinking of trying one of the Karl Lagerfeld Agyness bags. Or maybe even a Coach Rogue top handle. I think I don't care for how that style looks, the flap, but everyone else seems to love it, so I must just be missing something that I'd find out if I tried it. I also want a trapezoid shaped bag, either glitzy and small as an evening bag or bigger as a daily carry. They look so refined and proper. I love the Coach Sammy top handle every time I see it, but also like the Marc Jacobs St. Marc. I want to try a vintage Coach bag just to see what the hype is about. I want a Mulberry small Iris ... maybe it sort of fits the trapezoid bag group? I want an LV in empreinte with the gradient color patterns, such a pretty color pattern. I want a Le Pliage, also just to see what the hype is about. I want another shoulder bag, that stays on the shoulder and doesn't slip and goes under my arm with ease and carries everything, like my old D&B hobo did, so maybe like the Fount Kinsley I've seen here. I want to try D&B's Florentine leather. I want to try all of these things, but don't want all of them because it would clutter my life. So I've bought nothing while pondering what I'd want next. I wish there was a handbag lending library, so I could just try them for a week and see if I actually like them.

On another note, I've noticed some wear on my Gucci Aphrodite, which I've only had for 6 months or so, and my Polene Numero Neuf, which I've had for a little less than a year. I've worn these bags 38 and 40 times (I have a spreadsheet :smartass:). The Gucci is faring worse, and I really haven't had it long at all. I admit to being a bit disappointed about this, since it's my most expensive bag but seems to show wear just as fast (perhaps faster?) than others I have. Oh well, so it is. I'll take it as a life lesson.

There are rental services for bags! It's a very good way to test out a style before committing.
Selfridges, By Rotation, Bag Butler and Vivrelle all come up after a quick search.
I haven't tried any of these services myself but I know one of my friends had a 6 month subscription to one of these services (based in London, but I can't recall which service she used). She tried out 4 bags a month for a small fee. She loved it and it helped her figure out what brands and styles to avoid.

They are very nice. I think they are very unique. Wish he still made bags like this.

Sorry to hear about how your bags are wearing. Do you moisturize them?

These are great suggestions! I once browsed Rent the Runway’s inventory and found what they had to offer didn’t interest me, and never looked further. But looking at some of these, they could be useful to me. For the inexpensive stuff I’m interested in, which is most of it honestly, it’s probably cheaper to just buy and get rid of if I don’t like it. But something does feel wrong about doing that. But definitely for more expensive items, these rental services are great! Thank you for the suggestions, and the motivation to look for more than 5 minutes!

Thanks. I did for the Gucci once, though I wonder if that’s the mistake, since I’m pretty sure the care instructions told me not to. But I’ve only had it 7 months. And I think I didn’t try a conditioner until I saw the first signs of wear, which was honestly only a few months in. It’s like, there’s a pebble finish on the leather and they rolled the edges so tight on the seams that it’s prone to cracking and the pebbles even lifting up. Even when not truly damaged, you can see faint cracks in between the grain along the edge only because it’s pulled so tight. Maybe just a construction flaw? They do offer a 2 year, free I think, repair service. After a year mark, I might try to submit it for repair.

I think I’ve conditioned the Polene once. The wear is not as bad on that one.

Ah well, not the end of the world I guess. They’re meant to be enjoyed and used up, and I’m very good at using them up! Attachment is the root of suffering?
