2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

August 13 - Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta

August 20 - Burberry, Celine

August 27 - Coach, Chanel

September 3 - Chloe, Dior

September 10 - Dooney & Bourke, Fendi

September 24 - Goyard, Gucci

I was tagged by @880 to share my BV collection here  I hope its ok to share brands from the weeks i missed too. It was a good exercise for me to start clearing out my bag shelves to reorganize and to make a visual record of my current collection…and find more bags to let go of. I’ve always had large bag collections (i have a collector mentality) and as i’ve shifted taste, brands, etc i’ve had a lot of bags to sell. I’ve reached a place where i only want to add bags i KNOW i will love & carry, & will be part of my collection for a long time. I think i understand what styles and colors work for me now too, so hopefully the days of buying bags just b/c i like them are over. Same with the buy/sell rollercoaster.

I get attached to my bags so its hard to let go. I’ve sold a lot of bags the last few years tho, and its getting easier. I do have a harder time parting with premier bags, and i had quite a few that didn’t work for me color or style wise, that i just never reached for. To motivate myself this year to sell them all, i decided to fund a Kelly with the proceeds. The momentum continued.…and i was able to rehome 35 premier bags (all of my Bals, some Gucci’s, Celine, Loewe, Ferragamo’s, Chanel & a lot of BV this past year. I sold 50 contemporary and vintage bags too, and a handful of slg’s. Letting go of these bags helped me fund a few Hermes bags, and really changed my outlook. I don’t want to collect, i only want to add bags i will actually be able to use. Even if some are only occasional bags.

I know this was more appropriate for the beginning of the thread, and i hope it was ok to share. The collector in me has a lot of trouble letting things go, and once i saw the pix i took of my remaining bags (excluding BV), it was wonderful to see how much i’ve sold. I have some regrets, but — i would love to continue curating my collection. There are a few bags on my wishlist too but for now i am going to enjoy what i have, and shop my own bag closet.

Thanks for letting me share! Next week i will organize and post my BV

Stats - i sold a bag as i was writing this! And i sold 5 bags last week on poshmark, so it looks like sales are picking up.

Love vintage Coach….

The Gucci on the left was my first designer bag. I purchased it in 1988 at the Gucci counter in Macy’s for my 18th birthday. Its aged better then i have

Love, love, love that you shared. Gorgeous collection! And OMG! My first designer purchase was also Gucci at a Macy’s counter (Lehigh Valley Mall in PA) in early 1986. Eventually added a matching wallet and Cles.

It’s amazing to see all of these and imagine the progression! Wow! Thank you for sharing this!
cannot wait to see more pls      :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

I would love to know too, how do you store all of this. I am building a dressing room with a bag area, but noth8ng that could hold these plus your stunning BVs.
Tagging @23adeline. She’s the queen of Louis Vuitton and recently built a new house with a to-die-for closet that showcases her bags. It’s a wonder to behold!

This looks so neat and tidy. Does the color from one ever transfer to another?
Thank you! I put the dust bags back on b/c i am afraid of transfer, i don’t want to risk it. I had a bag awhile back that transferred but i think its b/c it was snakeskin

OMG! Wow! Faints  These are gorgeous. And so space efficient
it seems like such a pity to dust bag them. I’m convinced if I keep everything visibke, I shop less lol

Thank you  When i like something i am known to add multiple colors:lol:

I agree visibility leads to less shopping. Even just looking at the photos I took yesterday, my interest is now inside my bag closet. When its all clothed and hidden, i am focused on hunting the next bag. But i want to protect the bags from light, dust, and in the case of these hobos, color transfer. But it does mean rotating less……

Thank you for your kind words and for looking at my collection
I love that you also purchased your first designer bag at Macys and same timeframe :giggle::heart: and that you still have the bag and slgs! Love the Gucci blue:hbeat: and your set looks amazing given its age.
And in another OMG moment… I had the black version of the bag on the right in the third photo. I recently passed that on to my niece. It was a gift from an aunt and uncle for my college graduation back in 1996. I didn’t save off a photo, or I would share.
How cool is that! We obviously shared similar taste back then lol. I had a green one in the early 90s and loved it. It matched my LL Bean green duck boots  I started seeing the vintage bags all over Pinterest etc, this summer, and apparently they are really popular right now with 20 and 30’s folks, so your niece must be thrilled to have it :)

That is sad about the transfer. You are right about the dust covers. All the bags that I have in dust covers don't get used as often as the few that don't. Your bags are beautiful.

I was thinking about wearing my jacket today, but there's a blinking storm brewing so - action pics delayed.

Anyway, Gucci jacket 1 came out - of the closet @A bottle of Red @cecchetti and all that wanted to see (old photo notwithstanding). Still on the bed though as I can hear the rain. It's seriously warm as it's padded, but not impossible on a crisp day, I'm just a bit scarred for rain or worse, snow. A jacket made for zeroº indoor wear?

Yesterday, took 'blast from the past' YSL (SLP) Majorelle Large Ivory. That's seriously shopping from my closet!

Unfortunately, I found a couple of new scratches - how does that happen in a double dust-bag????

Jacket is stunning. Hope you get to enjoy wearing soon and Would love to see modeling pics!

Missed Hermes and Loewe weeks, and just made MJ

Navy MJ Venetia with red contrast stitching. I really love this bag.

I cannot believe I actually found pics of my childhood sofa this bag immediately reminded me of! Very poor quality photos but you can see the navy blue leather with red stitching creating a geometric design. I always thought it was hideous but I love your MJ bag nonetheless. In fact, I might have to try to track one down for myself given the nostalgia it evoked. Anyway, don't laugh but here is me at probably age 4 or 5 sporting my wonder woman underoos (with home made accessories)!

You were so cute!

Its a great thread, it helps so much to get support and feedback when one is trying to curate and shift away from collect mode. Its also wonderful to give support to others too  very happy to be here

I snapped this awhile back…these ikea racks are great for storing hobos that can be laid flat. I’ve since added a third rack on top of these 2 to hold my medium Venetas. They are all back in their dust bags now so i think i am going to print out a visual sheet for each level that lists in order which bag is where, to make it easier to see what i have.
