2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

August 13 - Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta

August 20 - Burberry, Celine

August 27 - Coach, Chanel

September 3 - Chloe, Dior

September 10 - Dooney & Bourke, Fendi

I was tagged by @880 to share my BV collection here  I hope its ok to share brands from the weeks i missed too. It was a good exercise for me to start clearing out my bag shelves to reorganize and to make a visual record of my current collection…and find more bags to let go of. I’ve always had large bag collections (i have a collector mentality) and as i’ve shifted taste, brands, etc i’ve had a lot of bags to sell. I’ve reached a place where i only want to add bags i KNOW i will love & carry, & will be part of my collection for a long time. I think i understand what styles and colors work for me now too, so hopefully the days of buying bags just b/c i like them are over. Same with the buy/sell rollercoaster.

I get attached to my bags so its hard to let go. I’ve sold a lot of bags the last few years tho, and its getting easier. I do have a harder time parting with premier bags, and i had quite a few that didn’t work for me color or style wise, that i just never reached for. To motivate myself this year to sell them all, i decided to fund a Kelly with the proceeds. The momentum continued.…and i was able to rehome 35 premier bags (all of my Bals, some Gucci’s, Celine, Loewe, Ferragamo’s, Chanel & a lot of BV this past year. I sold 50 contemporary and vintage bags too, and a handful of slg’s. Letting go of these bags helped me fund a few Hermes bags, and really changed my outlook. I don’t want to collect, i only want to add bags i will actually be able to use. Even if some are only occasional bags.

I know this was more appropriate for the beginning of the thread, and i hope it was ok to share. The collector in me has a lot of trouble letting things go, and once i saw the pix i took of my remaining bags (excluding BV), it was wonderful to see how much i’ve sold. I have some regrets, but — i would love to continue curating my collection. There are a few bags on my wishlist too but for now i am going to enjoy what i have, and shop my own bag closet.

Thanks for letting me share! Next week i will organize and post my BV

Stats - i sold a bag as i was writing this! And i sold 5 bags last week on poshmark, so it looks like sales are picking up.

Love vintage Coach….

Thank you so much for sharing your story - and all your gorgeous bags! I love seeing how people deacquisition - and what they acquire. (I might also have a collectors mindset rather than a minimalist mindset!)

Your Floopy Swift Birkin looks so pet-able, and I love the glorious pop from your Pico. I love the first Gucci bag too!

For long-term storage, I wouldn’t recommend plastic bins since there’s little airflow. However, if it’s just until the seasons change, then the plastic bins have worked well for me with no damage to any bags stored that way. If I’m concerned about it, I just leave it out on top of the bins.
Thanks!

I was thinking about wearing my jacket today, but there's a blinking storm brewing so - action pics delayed.

Anyway, Gucci jacket 1 came out - of the closet @A bottle of Red @cecchetti and all that wanted to see (old photo notwithstanding). Still on the bed though as I can hear the rain. It's seriously warm as it's padded, but not impossible on a crisp day, I'm just a bit scarred for rain or worse, snow. A jacket made for zeroº indoor wear?

Yesterday, took 'blast from the past' YSL (SLP) Majorelle Large Ivory. That's seriously shopping from my closet!

Unfortunately, I found a couple of new scratches - how does that happen in a double dust-bag????

The jacket is gorgeous and I understand your reticence! I'm wondering if it is more water resistant than you think. It appears to have a bit of a gloss.

Thank you for kind words, and for your encouragement to post :hugs:it helped me to motivate to reorganize, and to do a final purge push too lol. Words from you are high praise:hbeat: i love love your taste in bags! And clothes too  And I will share the BV’s next week, its going to be a project:lol:

How exciting you are building a new dressing room with a dedicated bag area! Thats going to be wonderful, to have them so organized and on display. I would love to do that one day too, but we’ve moved 3 houses in the last 7 years…..we will stay put for awhile i think, and DH will stay at this job until he retires most likely. We are to inherit his moms house on Cape Cod and i will build a bag closet there for sure. Until then, i use shelving. Our third bedroom is my bag room and one wall is lined with shelves. I use bare wood and do not paint them white b/c i’ve read there can be paint transfer. And i have a metal rack system i purchased from Ikea that is perfect for hobos and Venetas, and is stackable so you can use however many you need. I can attach a pic of the ikea rack, and once i reorganize my bag shelves i will snap a pic of those too. The trouble is seeing what i have b/c i keep everything in dustbags to protect them. So i am going to print bag tags i think, with pix, and clip one to each dustbag to help with that. You won’t have that issue — with a dedicated bag closet you won’t need to keep them in dust bags, which will be so nice!

Thank you  Its a lot of work curating when you have a lot, but so worth it. I love changing out bags almost daily but it gets overwhelming when you have way too many. Which i still do. So i need to clear out a lot of the remaining vintage and contemporary by year end. Thank you for your encouragement:hugs:

Favorites. I tend to reach for my BV the most. Many styles are so comfortable, practical, and easy to carry……my B35 is a recent acquisition, and i could see myself carrying that bag everyday….it exceeded all expectations. I love my LV’s but don’t carry them as much as i should. I want to add an Alma PM in mono and a World Tour Speedy……i love Speedys :lol:and i love monogram. I just need to carry them and not be afraid to get the vachetta messy lol. You can see how light the patina is on most:lol: my DA speedy and 30 mono tho are fairly recent additions…..

Most carried bags: Nero Nodini, Nero large Veneta, Ottone Mini Cabat, LV Multipochette (one or two of the pouches, never with the coin case dangling lol), and i find the Bolides to be the most practical and easy to carry H bags. 3 came without straps so i need to order some canvas guitar straps on Etsy. I have a bag folder now, with all of these bag pix in it. I am going to use it to remind me what i have and to start carrying everything and rotate more often.

Thank you so much for sharing your story - and all your gorgeous bags! I love seeing how people deacquisition - and what they acquire. (I might also have a collectors mindset rather than a minimalist mindset!)

Thank you all for letting me share :hugs:and for your kind words  my Birkin is very pet-able:lol: i don’t think i will use a bag organizer b/c i love the floop lolol. And agree, Pico’s look so great in pops of color:heart:
I do wish i had snapped group pix of the bags i sold for comparison, but it didn’t occur to me.
I have such trouble letting go of pretty things even if they don’t work for me…so the H goal was very motivating for me to let go! I am trying hard to shift away from ‘collector’ mode. Since you too are a collector, i look forward to looking through your collection pix

Its a great thread, it helps so much to get support and feedback when one is trying to curate and shift away from collect mode. Its also wonderful to give support to others too  very happy to be here :)

I snapped this awhile back…these ikea racks are great for storing hobos that can be laid flat. I’ve since added a third rack on top of these 2 to hold my medium Venetas. They are all back in their dust bags now so i think i am going to print out a visual sheet for each level that lists in order which bag is where, to make it easier to see what i have.

This looks so neat and tidy. Does the color from one ever transfer to another?

OMG! Wow! Faints  These are gorgeous. And so space efficient
it seems like such a pity to dust bag them. I’m convinced if I keep everything visibke, I shop less lol

@papertiger, I adore your iridescent croc jacket suitable for zero degree indoor wear
