2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

I don’t drive, and love walking, and the U.K. winters can be cold and wet, so my favourite winter outerwear is a shearling coat -next winter I’m planning a new bespoke one.
I have a full length curly one, and a Sandro navy jacket which is very warm in shearling, but neither have a hood..I’ve seen one in Florence with a hood and saved the picture, which I’ll get copied to fit me.

They last for years and are super warm-great for being outside in the winter.
Inside I like wool blazers.
I hear you.... possibly my favorite thing I own (and most expensive thing I've ever purchased) is a Prada shearling coat I bought last summer when I was in st barths. I knew it was ridiculous bc it doesn't get cold where I live but I couldn't stop petting it and then they told me there was only 1 other one left in the world. Plus they were giving me champagne so.... I finally got to wear it when I took my daughter to a hockey game and have worn it on a couple trips where it was cold and it was so comfy. No regrets!

I had no idea real leather jackets were so difficult to find! I'm glad I got mine when I did. I actually remember trying on some Michael Kors tan jackets at N Rack some years ago, and liking the color.
I didn't realize this either. I have a few leather jackets and now I feel lucky that I do.... even though a never really wear any of them, I feel these are great guns as they are indeed buttery soft and so pretty in my opinion:
- a light pink D & G one (a little too tight on arms but I'm a sucker for light pink)
- an olive green Karl Lagerfeld with a quilted kind of stitching pattern
- a black one with white stars cut out on back. I got in a boutique in key west, I think the brand is called Mauritas
- an aqua-ish color blue by a brand called Overland. So random I was in Omaha, NE walking by a store and a lady was trying it on and it was gorgeous. I was waiting to pounce if she didn't buy it but they ended up being able to order me one. Wasn't familiar with this brand but the leather feels like superb quality. And it nearly perfectly matches a pair of light blue Valentino boots I have.

Like most things, I like buying/ having more than I like wearing/ using but I am hoping to live somewhere one day that has fall weather so I can utilize!

This is such a fun topic for me as I rarely get to wear fall or winter clothing but I love buying and justifying that I will soon move somewhere at least part of the year I can enjoy that weather (once my youngest daughter graduates high school in 1.5-2 years). My eldest daughter recently moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming about 1.5 hours from Denver and I now justify buying anything for cold weather (ridiculous ankle length cashmere sweater dress, ridiculous bright pink Givenchy shark lock boots, a ridiculous Gucci cape, etc etc) based on that I will one day go visit her. Living in south Florida and Maui most of my life, I never liked cold weather but in recent years, I have started to love it and even crave it in small doses. So fun to hear about all your seasonal wardrobes!

I love wool coats but my favorite outerwear item is a down coat with a hood. It's like being wrapped in a soft warm cloud. It doesn't get super cold or rainy where I live, but you get used to local temperatures so I'm freezing when it drops below 65 F. I have this ridiculous looking down coat that I use as a robe when the house gets too cold.

I had a trench I liked but rarely wore because I'm no good with umbrellas so my rainwear needs a hood.

I also love my cashmere lined leather gloves and my fur lined Uggs.
I second Uggs! My kids had some when they were young and I literally thought they were the ugliest thing in the world and swore I would never wear them. Low and behold, I got a pair a few years ago and now I have 3 pairs and absolutely love them. I wear them the few cold days a year here with jeans and a fuzzy sweater and have worn when traveling in winter to new orleans, atlanta, and even California in the summer which was too chilly for me and they proved to be super comfy for walking, plane rides, etc.

How amazing..yes, mine are lovely quality, I can imagine the quality Prada would use..I would be petting it it as well!l
No, No, Yes! Use the top tanneries in the world-I’m just having a biker jacket made with Porusus crocodile from a top exotic tannery.
I’ll use them for my bespoke shearling(or Cromford Leathers)- both cost a fortune, but I’d know exactly where the shearling came from…even my current jacket and coat have lasted years-I have a hat too..it’s perfect for winter, nothing else keeps me warm, every year I get the curly coat out and people ask to stroke it, and where it’s from.

Wear your Prada coat in good health!xx

You have some cool colors in leather jackets! Maybe take them with you when you travel to a cooler place. To be honest, even though I live in a place with four seasons, my leather jackets don't get used much. I'm going to try and use them more this fall.

Thanks. Yes, it was 20 years ago and I’m still p*ssed when I think about it. And, AND, it was an amazing sales find, like of which I’ve never been able to repeat :crybaby:
I had a really beautiful shearling coat stolen at a bar . I went to the bathroom and asked my friend to keep an eye on it, but she turned her back to it and it disappeared. I am still pissed all these years later.

I like collarless jackets too. I had a beautiful dark brown suede one in a boxy cut that I lost on a night out with friends years ago. It was Nicole Farhi and someone stole it from beside me. I’m still gutted about it, even now.

I'm so sorry :hugs:

I had (my Christmas) shopping stolen from a restaurant a few years ago, but at least it was new stuff for others and not something I had bonded with.

Once something is mine...

Could not resist this burgundy allsaints leather jacket. Still want to pick up a blazer that would dress up jeans a bit. Any suggestions for a mid range brand. I have a long torso and am fairly tall.

If you can get to Germany, Spain, Italy or France, you will find some fantastic leather in specialist shops (not those kind :D). Somehow people expect their leather to be better.

I have a couple of All Saints too

I hate to say this by Gucci, Prada, Jitrois, Loewe and Chanel are still the best. After 20 years the CPW will come right down ;)

Question for everyone -- what is your favorite item of outerwear, when it comes to fall fashion? Mine is definitely a wool blazer or coat. I have enough and more of them to take me through the entire season. In fact, I need to plan more outings in order to give them an airing.

It always changes, but an Autumn favourite is my Hermes riding Pouch which is very seasonal. I can carry on wearing it Winter over a jacket too.

I love pea coats! And I share your love for navy blue. I have short wool coats in a few different colors -- moss green, burgundy (supposed to be big this fall, along with red), navy and red, but I will admit dark blue is my go to color. It just seems right for almost any occasion.
Tie dye sounds interesting -- I don't think I have seen a coat in tie dye. Off to search for one.

Sports jackets are on the lighter side, and like cardigans, I am not sure if they would count as outerwear unless one lived in a place that was hot all year, with just a month or two of cooler "sweater" weather.

Charcoal gray trousers sound fab. I think I need a pair of charcoal gray trousers -- can't believe I don't have any.
I have happily put away all my skinny jeans and have fully embraced the straight leg and other flare style jeans for the season!

As for white button down shirts, I never understood why every fashion blogger recommends them because they are not always the easiest items to style. I actually prefer wearing them in the summer over jeans or trousers, especially in a nice eyelet fabric, or with some little details that set them apart a bit. I have one or two, and must admit they're probably the least worn items in my closet.

The winters here can be cold and wet too, and good footwear is another important requirement in the colder months. Your shearling coat sounds lovely and warm. I have a puffer coat with a hood for the really cold, wintry and wet days, but I must admit I am often running around without wearing the hood unless it is really pouring.

Pea coats? Count me in! I have a Burberry (black) and a Gucci (navy). I don't think anything suits me better.

I swear I took this picture last week, but took a weekend trip and only got the picture to my computer now. My BV bags:

bv-bags.png

Medium Veneta in mid-grey and oxblood, and a men's laptop bag in silvery grey. I also have a silvery-bronzy Veneta, but it is just too far into brown for me and my leather guy said he couldn't improve it, so I'll take it to the consignment shop soon. And I have a black one on loan to my mom.

I don't own any Balenciaga, Burberry, or Celine. :)
