2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Strange materials...

I bought two bags at a fleamarket last Sunday. Both are very dirty and very old and totally adorable. ( At least in my eyes...)

The mock croc is plastic, the green clutch grosgrain.

They are waiting to be cleaned up. I´m curious how much I will be able to do. The other side of the green bag is very bad.

But first I have to clear out the chaos in my room.
I started another clothes purge. There is so much vintage everywhere and while I thought: "great! grab a piece and get dressed," I noticed, that lots of the dresses are far too big on me right now. So there´s no need for them to be in this very room. I´ll sort into fits -- too big/ alter soon -- too big/ no hurry to alter and find some storage spot for the latter making room for those I can actually wear.

I love the shape of the mock croc!

Somehow I wish we could go thrifting with you or at the very least rummage in your closet . . . :drinks:
I love deals and projects, and well, anything grosgrain

I’m really bad at keeping up with stats, but I did clean some items out last month, so I’ll update!

Bags out: 4
Bags in: 0
SLGs out: 2
SLGs in: 0
Jewelry out: 8
Jewelry in: 0

I’ve been purging my closet of all the things I don’t use/wear. I tested the resale waters a couple of months ago and was pleased, so shed more items that way last month (everything listed above). The jewelry was all Tiffany silver that I loved back in the day, but haven’t worn in probably more than a decade. Time to let go. I did purchase a discontinued Louis Vuitton bag charm to go with my denim Epi Speedy Bandouliere 25, getting a great deal on Yoogi’s. I also tracked down four Lilly Pulitzer dresses via eBay in my favorite style that I have been hoping they would bring back, but haven’t. I was surprised by just how pristine they were for circa six years old and the price of each was about 1/3 that of retail, so I consider them steals.

This month’s stats won’t be great, but that’s OK. I just clicked purchase on an Hermes CSGM from this past spring that I wanted, but missed out on. FASHIONPHILE had it and lowered the price another 10% today. It still has the tag attached, so I couldn’t say no! FP photo below. Yesterday I was finally able to track down the Van Cleef & Arpels Sweet Alhambra pendant I’ve been after in rose gold, so picked that up. And tomorrow I will see my Cartier SA; I’m hoping for another Trinity ring, this time in ceramic and white gold. (Darn you, @papertiger! I mean that in the nicest way, of course. :hugs: )

So, the first few days of June were the "estate sale" of my parents' house (my mom just moved to a retirement home). I helped the people running the estate sale, because my mom wanted an eye on things and I am sometimes a control freak.

Most common comments:
  • What a cool house! (Yup. Also a weird house that needed tons of maintenance that we never had the money or skills to keep up. It will be on sale soon; here's the broker info.)
  • Your parents had great taste! (Yup.)
  • Wow, so much stuff! (Yuuuuuup.)
Most common questions:
  • Didn't you want these things? (I'm 51 years old and have been out of the house since I was 16. I have taken all the things I wanted and have bought myself quite a full household as well.)
  • Aren't you sad about seeing all these things gone? (I've been having literal nightmares about clearing this house out for literally 30 years. It's all going away in a weekend (plus a month and a half's work of the estate sale team). You can not imagine how not-sad I am. Also, can I hand you this random object to take with you?)
I told the bf several times that I would come home and get rid of half my stuff. He celebrated. It has not yet happened. Instead, I've bought more stuff. Argh.

June stats:
Bags in:
Blue raffia tote snagged from my mom's massive collection
Black laptop bag that matches/echoes my own massive Hobo Lola collection
Green Trim 38, I'm so pleased to have found it but tempered by, you know, the above drama
Jewelry in:
Charm bracelet charms
Weird locket belonging to Mom's mom
Random cross pendant found in woods by Dad
Clothing in:
Garden hat
Fleece (for bf, but I also borrow it)
Grey sweater

Nothing of note out.

I think those stats are totally impressive! I also love Libre Comme Pegase CSGM.

I missed out on the pink version Lazy Leopardesses (2021?). I'd tried it on in the season issued, and it looked good, but my sweet angel (cat) had just died, and couldn't be cheery at all so took the Vert Noir version instead. So many reasons not to get the pink cw, I already had the Baobab Cat in fuchsia (2018), it was another cat scarf, another 90 etc. When it was sold out everywhere, I was so PO at myself, especially when I saw the prices double. I found it online available to collect in London and practically flew there. Although I love the Very Noir, the pink reminds me far more of my little 'camp' and hilariously funny cat I don't think you will ever regret your golden Libre Comme Pegase, it's a classic throw-on and totally majestic.

I really love the Trinity rings with the ceramic bands, they're a little more edgy than the classic. In fact the classic bands mean love, friendship and loyalty. I've decided the black ceramic means being true (to ourselves) which is quite a contemporary value, but for women especially, very important.

Weirdly, many of the Trinity pieces are sold-out online atm (UK). I'm wondering if it's a uptick in sales or Cartier trying to create FOMO before the centenary next year(?).

I've got no bag news. I'm on holiday and enjoying not going anywhere.

No straw or raffia bags from me- I have my eye out for a nice straw one, if I do buy one, I doubt it will have a logo.

It sounds like you're managing the practicalities really well. It's good that you're keeping an eye, but also good you don't feel tied to the stuff.

Congratulations on your green Trim. It sounds very special.

Thank you! And clearly the universe is telling me I have a thing for Dior RTW. Hmmm…
@DME, while this dress was from the boutique, I also keep an eye on resale. There is a lot of discounted dior with great prices out there. Some from last season. You have to pick and choice carefully; know your measurements; and pay attention to condition, but it’s sometimes the only way to get at item if you have missed it the first time around. Try TRR and other resellers  Except for chanel jackets, most premier designer RTW loses value very quickly

congrats @FizzyWater! My mom has a ton of stuff too, so I’m especially thrilled for you

Thanks! It was a whirlwind of activity for a week and a half, and I've accomplished nothing since I got back. (Not true! I started making my first wine with my massive glut of redcurrants!)

I am very excited by it. It's not in as good shape as the seller claimed, but Vestiaire let me know and I'll get "my leather guy" to fix it, Hermes spa more than its value. Also, it has yellow gold hardware, which I usually avoid, but this model is so very hard to find that I'm completely ignoring it. Pictures soon, I swear.

I agree the black ceramic is more edgy, which is part of why I want it for fall! My summer wardrobe is mainly Lilly Pulitzer (fun, colorful prints), while my winter wardrobe is very dark. I feel like the regular Trinity goes well with my summer “personality”, while the ceramic goes better with my “winter”.

So glad you were eventually able to get your scarf in the color way you had wanted. And I’m sorry for the loss of your cat; while I have no pets now, I grew up with many and they are like part of the family.

I hope you are enjoying your holiday!

Oh, and an update on shopping: I added the new Louis Vuitton Speedy 20 in Damier Ebene this morning, along with a cute bag charm and two bandeaus. I really need to stop visiting with my sales associates!
