2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

This month has been very stressful so I have a ton of ins and outs. Picked up this little Italian leather bag in NYC . Love the color, still not sure it is me. The flap inside is suede but the rest is lined. What do you think?

It's derivative of the Gucci 1955, too much for me, but it's a nice bag

I was thinking that. Then thursday when I walked past Gucci they had a photo of their bag in black on the side of their store. I had not seen it before, now it bugs me.

It's actually a very interesting question altogether. If it doesn't say Gucci on it, it's not a fake, it just very closely takes inspiration from the 1955.

All brands copy one another to an extent but usually they change something to make it their own (and avoid a lawsuit)

I have 2 of my mother's Alice bags from Pickett London given around 10 years ago. One is ostrich and one is Tunstall (pigskin). My mother mostly wore Chanel and Le Tanneur, a couple of H (80s/90s). My mother's friends all carried H, and the Alices are very reminiscent of the H Kelly. I'm not sure how often she wore the Alices, but I do know she never 'went to lunch' with them. Now they've modified the design and removed the 'sangles' leaving just the Turlock but I can't just snip-off the sangles because the sides would flare open, so they grace the top shelf and are totally underused.

I would say 99% of people will not care - or even know and just think you have a very nice bag. I just wouldn't go to Gucci with it ;).

I bought it because of the color. The Horse things reminded me of Gucci, but I had not seen that style before. The quality of it is very good. The only flaw I saw was the slightly off-center metal bits. The leather finishing is done well. The burnished brass is softly done. I am going to think on it a bit.

I actually thought it was Gucci... it´s a lovely bag.

I haven’t bought a bag so far this month.
I’m weirdly proud of that, despite the fact that my shopping has otherwise been completely insane. It’s just that I’ve been shopping for other people.

I’ve purchased three different Gucci vanity bags for VintageMama, hoping that this will finally be the one that makes her less resentful about having to take medicine. And I’ve purchased so much Zelda stuff for the Knight, and then he’s barely playing.

I want to get rid of everything I own. I want to keep it all. I want to buy a half dozen Tom Ford-era Gucci bags. (Seriously, I came “this” close to buying a metallic gold Bella bag)

I feel like I’m on the edge of massive changes coming - and I don’t know which direction to move. Do I brace for impact, lean into the blow, or duck?

Anyone else feeling this? Is it the season or just me?
