2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Please meet my latest addition to the imposter family.
I bought another Kuhn Fine Line Vintage ( from the 90ies) bag.

She is a 35cm model. When she arrived I was very disappointed, because she is blue and not black. I looked into the listing: nope, it didn´t say she was black and as soon as I knew she is navy the photos clearly pictured her as such...
Meanwhile I´m ok with the color. It´s neutral, it works with black.
It looks black to me. Very pretty and love the gloves!

Stunning color, congrats!!!

Enjoying the discussion around jeans. I haven’t bought new ones in a bit because I want to lost some of the weight I’ve gained. But I’m also a fan of the ‘slight bootcut’ style, as well as straight leg. Even when I’m in shape, I don’t necessarily like the skinny just because I tend to find them less comfortable. But then again I like leggings, so it can’t be about the feel of material hugging all the way down the leg, per se.
I also find skinny jeans uncomfortable, and more uncomfortable than leggings. Leggings are soft and flexible. Denim isn’t. So jeans are less comfortable even when they aren’t tight. I also have the thighs that make skinny jeans a challenge. Today, by chance, I’m wearing a soft, somewhat tight pair of pants that are jeans-like, but much softer. Do soft, in fact, they tend to sag a little throughout the day, so I’m going to try my new Coach belt with them

I remember begging my mom for a pair of skinny jeans in the 2000s.
Previously I always wore the straight-leg jeans of the 90s, which I didn't mind because I didn't care when I was younger.
I wanted the low-rise skinny jeans too and I remember just hopping around in them to get them on.

I used to be super into jeans in my teens and college years. At one point in think I had 20 pairs of jeans (that was a lot for me).
It wasn't until I went to professional school that we all wore business casual and I just stopped wearing them. And I was also on the East Coast, and in the city, I didn't really see that many people with jeans in my area. Especially not the distressed jeans that Californians love. And then when I came back to California I wasn't as into them anymore.

Now I have 2 high rise skinny jeans (one plain, one distressed), 1 mid-rise skinny jean (black/gray, slightly distressed).
And then 2 pair of baggy jeans (one high rise, one low rise).
I mainly wear the skinny ones in the fall/winter, and the baggy ones in the spring/summer. I do enjoy being able to wear skinny jeans with heeled boots, I think it gives a very sleek look.
I can't stand wearing skinny jeans in the summer, I don't know how I did it back then. :P I even played soccer and basketball in them!

I'm not a legging girl. I'm part of the group that believes leggings are not pants. I don't mind wearing a very long top or a skirt over a pair of leggings, but that's my limit.
I actually really like tights. I think it's something brought over from my time on the East Coast. I wore them to not get bitten by mosquitos lol but I found them a great season transition piece. And if I'm wearing a shorter flowy skirt, I just feel safer with tights (nude or black).

That sounds lovely! I don't think we will ever redo anything else in our house after we did the kitchen/laundry/pantry. Just paint and new flooring at some point, but I dream about replacing the counters and sinks in the master bath. At least we replaced the faucets and shower door, refinished the cabinets, painted and installed new window coverings. The tub was replaced several years ago when the first one cracked!
We aren’t changing the location of anything/gut job. The shower had some cracked tiles and the old tub was a huge jetted one. So new marble look tile, freestanding soaker tub, 2 white vanities instead of one large one. Shower stays a corner one, but with 2 glass walls/door instead of one. Installing white wainscoting and painting a lighter color green on the top half. New fixtures and lighting. It will look so much bigger, lighter and brighter than our current 1980’s beige tile, tub, floor, shower with avocado walls. And of course, all on a budget with secondhand accessories. LOL
All the current fixtures we bought as a stopgap will go into the hall bath and will update it nicely!

We have a very old ugly fixture in our shower but it is from before everyone was forced into water-saving fixtures so it has to stay. I'm afraid if we redo the shower surrounds, we might have to redo the fixture and we'll lose our wonderful water pressure. It's not a huge room but it is a good layout with plenty of room between the sinks.

It seems like everything in the 80s was avocado green!

I bet all that glass makes it lovely. When we replaced our glass shower door, the installer told us to treat it with RainX. I do it about once a month and it has made it easier to clean. Unfortunately a lot of our bathroom is beige too. The toilet and bathtub were replaced and are now white.

What are you using for lighting? We had the opportunity to change the fixture in one of our bathrooms but I couldn't find anything I liked a lot better than what we already had. The old fixture now looks retro.

That's the only way I wear leggings too, top has to cover the butt. :)

The one bag I have that leans closest to white or cream (kind of blends in with the wall color here). I had classified it in my mind as belonging to the taupe/beige family, but am not so sure it's a good fit there? Anyway, I own this exact bag in deep blue as well as dark orange. The dark orange one sat in my closet of departing bags for a while, but I might just add it back to the collection. Henri Bendel Waldorf satchel in a color called Safari. I wish I had fresh flowers for this pic, but we haven't been to the grocery store in ages (that's where I get my flower bouquets.)

Nice bag, and I love those red gloves!

Thank you! :flowers: A few have gone to family or friends. But we'll over 90% get donated to a local charity for victims of domestic violence. A friend works there so I know the women get them. I don't trust most charities, so this (and through my church) is how I give. Hopefully a nice purse gives them a reason to smile, and maybe an extra little bit of confidence at a job interview, as they rebuild their lives.
Thank you

What brands do you like that make jeans like that?
I don't know if any are still available as I haven't bought any in over a year. A few years ago I got some pull-on jeans from Uniqlo and others from Guess. The Guess jeans were a little loose, more like straight legs. After that, I had trouble finding some without zippers but I bought some from Hollister and others from Guess that are very soft even though they have zippers. For leggings that look like jeans I have a few pairs from Andrew Marc. Whenever I shop for jeans, the first thing I do is feel the fabric. I won't even try them on if they aren't soft and flexible.

Thanks! I guess I had better get to jeans shopping in person rather than online

DH picked the lighting…letting him pick gave him some control. He picked two 3-light fixtures and a matching flush mount ceiling light for the toilet area and another semi flush for the hallway to the closet. They are by Kichler.

March stats:
Bags in: 4
Bags out: 2
SLGs in: 0
SLGs out: 8
Scarves in: 1
Scarves out: 3

I finally took a bunch of things to the high-end consignment shop downtown. When they called me with their appraisal total, I caved and said I'll take back the Dogon, so it's not included in the SLGs out. When I go get it, I'll drop off 2 more bags from last month's total, which were "proof that Fizzy can not actually ID the correct size LC tote from a picture, and apparently can't even ID the right color".

But one of the bags in was finally a pristine LC red tote in the right size to replace my becoming-decrepit one, and I decided that my existing LC purple tote is actually pretty nice with the purple Cuir. Another bag in is a raffia tote that will be nice for the farmers' market.
